i think that for all the blame conte gets and rightly so, i think it's important to understand that he does what he thinks is best.
and it is telling. moses, bless him for his hard work, is a mid table multiple reject, pedro hasn't been anything since guardiola and fabregas can't run (which is kind of a bummer against the best conditioned/running team in the league).
i thought he got it really wrong not playing batshuayi from the start of the 2nd half instead of oscar.
i also thought he was too timid lining up his team too low on the pitch to begin with. 
and maybe he left it too late, but then again none of our subs did anything.
this cliche is probably overused at this point, but conte has a philosophy and he sees these guys in the field every day. win some lose some. most important thing now is to take action based on what he saw this game.

But Gueye does Kante's job... and initiates attacks. He does all that Kante can and more (last season Gueye's stats were almost identical to Kante's, but he played at Aston Villa).
Early in the season but:
Gueye: 90,9% pass success rate, 1 assist, 6 key passes, 6 dribbles, 22 tackles, 6 interceptions, 6 headers won, 4 fouls, 7,76 Whoscored rating
Kante: 94,5% pass success rate, 0 assists, 2 key passes, 3 dribbles, 13 tackles, 7 interceptions, 1 header won, 8 fouls, 6,94 Whoscored rating
So basically Kante passes a bit better, but Gueye passes forward more, while Kante just recycles possession.

can we stop the debate now?

I'm pretty sure we played 4-2-3-1 at the weekend so saying that he doesn't fit the system is a lot of rubbish.
a player that can play in any of the AM roles has a place in the squad, especially with the quality that James has.
no chance we'll get him on loan I don't think, that would be great with an option to buy but I don't think that would suit Madrid at all! 

He's going to struggle to keep his place once Mikel is back and match fit.

Tell me please how many players at a young age (u20) can substitute Ballack, Essien or Makelele [at CDM position being attacking player] ? Who will not be bitching around telling that he is attacking player and will not play defensive because it will ruin his career, his stats and so on...? Who else can give everything he can to his club? There are definitely not so many players like him...

Yes, he's been a substitute most of the time, but he's been a reliable squad player for ten years, that's how football works, not every player is a starter. I'm pretty sure that there are numerous teams that would buy him, but forget his wages, he does love Chelsea. The Mikel bashing on this forum is never ending, it's like this is a gooner forum or something.

He was not safe even before, he did very well in Atletico, but with his "return" to Chelsea he did not show that level of performance and confidence. 

I wouldn't call it a mammoth task, we need to strengthen in key areas but a drastic overhaul is not required.
 
Forget about Jose, there was no hurt for me this time after all the drama's at the club at the start of the season, hell even at the end of last season you could see things weren't right despite winning the league.
 
I think Conte will be a great appointment and I he'll make the changes required to turn us into a physical force again, the last few seasons we have looked far to weak.

In our last game (manu) his pass accuracy was 79% - only Pedro and Terry had better percentages (80% and 92%)
However, Mikel has made more successful passes than any other player.
He was not the worst with the passing mistakes - Hazard made more.
 
Also about getting forward and playing risky - this depends on a manager; Mikel only does what manager says, he is rarely the guy who will take the game into his own feet - he does whatever was told and [possibly] believes it is the best for the club. In the game with Sunderland, you could see that Mikel told to Matic that Serbian should stay behind and act as the DM,  while Mikel would act in a more attacking way.
