I'm sorry but the recency bias here is too strong. TT had us top of the table in his first full season after a difficult fixture list to start the season. This off the back of a UCL win. It only really started to come apart when he lost nearly half his champions league winning spine to injuries (Kova, Kante, James and  Chilwell).
Not to mention the war, sanctions, change in ownership and divorce. Normally employees in almost any field of work don't deal with this level of instability. Most definitely the worst possible situation for him personally. Yet he still took us to a top 4 finish, 2 domestic cup finals and 2 trophies won including the final piece of silverwear for the club to complete the all time set. Add in the fact he out coached all his opponents in cup matches (Mendy and Co let him down from the ucl).
Tuchel doesn't have a cult following, he has fans that he rightly earned through his achievements. To say he isn't elite is disrespectful of what he achieved at this club in such a short period of time. He took this club to a level which allowed them to compete with any club across 90 minutes. Including Pep's City and Klopp's Liverpool the two teams we seek to be like.
He's the first coach to go to back to back UCL finals with two different teams. There's a reason why that hadn't be done before. It's not easy....you have to be at the top of your game as a coach.
The fact remains the same he wasn't sacked for sporting performance, but for a lack of compatability with the new owners. TT is far from perfect, he's still the best coach on the market right now.
The difference between TT and Potter is our forwards couldn't finish under TT, but at least we made chances. Under Potter we create virtually nothing. Now perhaps people see just how important Timo was to our playstyle. Even without scoring, he was stretching the play running in behind and creating space for others.
Our biggest mistake imo was signing Lukaku in hindsight had we backed the system built in that ucl win and signed a player more like Sterling over Lukaku perhaps we wouldn't have regressed as bad as we did. The midfield will always remain an issue, yet they can't be completely blamed this a group of players that have made top 4 for the past 4 seasons, contested multiple cup finals and are the current reigning world champions.
Moving back to the point of my post, Thomas Tuchel is an elite coach and recency bias has imo clouded your judgement.

This is precisely how I feel. I'm really glad I have read your post as my own would have been very close to plagiarism. I really did think that there might be a chance that the Government might eventually hold their hands up and say that they could not continue with the Sanctions, due to a lack of concrete proof regarding wrong doing on the part of Roman. I know and accept that the source of his wealth is cloaked in darkness, but his use of it and now his willingness to give many Billions to Ukrainian Charities must count for something towards his exoneration.
So, Roman, if by some faint chance you are reading this somewhere at sometime, I would like to say my personal thanks. You helped me realise my dream ! I have been a Chelsea fan for 59 years, but truly did not ever think I would see them win the League in my lifetime. To have won it 5 times, together with 5 FA Cups, 3 League Cups, 2 Charity Shields, 2 Champions Leagues, 2 Europa Leagues, One UEFA Super Cup and ultimately the World Club Cup in your tenure means that I will die a very happy man. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for these wonderful 20 years and I pray that one day, you will be able to come back to Chelsea as our friend and Guest, having had all sanctions dropped and a complete pardon afforded to you by The EU and UK Governments. You are and always will be my Hero 💙

We played this season with a back 4 already. 9 matches with a back 4 with the following results: 7 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss.
Wins with the back 4 came against: Spurs (PL), Crystal Palace (PL), Newcastle (PL), Middlesbrough (FA cup), Plymouth (FA cup), Spurs (League cup), Spurs (League cup)
Draw against Brighton and loss against Brentford in the PL. We didn't have Chilwell to play as the LB nor James as the first choice RB against Brighton. In the loss against Brentford, James came on after Brentford was already winning the match in the second half and he wasn't fully fit at the time as he was just coming back from his injury.
Our wins though, most of them came from Tuchel playing a combined squad and it worked.

We are on track for 77 points. Which is easily a top 4 points total in every season in PL history.
Coming 4th means being inconsistent. It means losing games.

The problem is the Ricketts don't invest in the team they currently own the Chicago Cubs.

Major League Baseball is probably the American pro-sport that is run the most like European soccer.  In Major League Baseball you can spend as much as you want on wages but if you spend over a certain amount you have to pay what they call a Luxury tax on it.  So basically it still means who has the most money has the best chance to win.  So it makes for a great comparison.
So if you go look at the list of Major league baseball salaries the Cubs are #15. . . slightly below league average in the 3rd largest Media market (read potential fan base size) in the country.
    https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/payroll/
What is particularly bad about this is that the Chicago White Sox are #7, spending about 60 million a year more than the Cubs.  What is worse about that is that I live fairly close to Chicago in relative terms and I can tell you that the Cubs are far more popular than the White Sox.
So the Rickett's spends $60 million less dollars a year on their team than another team in the same city that is less popular than their team is.

I would say they are better than Woody Johnson because Woody Johnson is spectacularly incompetent.  But the Ricketts seem like they could be perfectly happy with making and leaving Chelsea as a mid table team.

I say all of the following as an American.

I feel like, like it or not we may be stuck with American owners because our country has so many of them and if it costs 3 billion buy the club you are likely going to need an American or a Saudi.

That said the problem that comes with American ownership is that in the US, pro-sports are an extremely profitable business that in some cases it's pretty much impossible to lose money at.  So American owners will likely look at Chelsea as an investment to turn a profit for them.  Less likely to look at is as a way to show off (ala Roman)

Just out of curiosity, why wouldn't we get behind the Ricketts/Griffin if they win? Due to their old man being a closet racist and getting caught out on it in the media? We need to sometimes think of the bigger picture; as human beings we are immensely fickle and I can almost guarantee that were they to succeed, none of the bad press would matter one bit. There's clearly much more going on behind the scenes. If the Ricketts can show that the words from Ricketts Snr. remain those of an old man brought up in an era of ignorance towards other cultures, let them have a go at it. People can be educated; the opinions of 1 man doesn't represent the opinions of all. I, for one, can bet my left bollock you've all got someone in your families of similar generation who has made you choke on your proverbial cuppa having come out with something non-PC.

For f**k sake people, I'm not justifying it but we need to start accepting that you CAN'T vilify entire organisations over 1 man; the exact same thing has happened with Roman and Chelsea ffs. Get a bloody grip.

Let's just hope whoever does takeover gets our support. I have no doubt the Ricketts will do everything they can to support all cultures and diversity, should they be successful.

When asked if players would be willing to fund their own travel to avoid long bus journeys, forward Havertz added: "I would pay it, it's not a problem. That isn't a big deal.
"For us to come to the games is the most important thing. There are harder things in the world right now than if we have to take the bus or plane to an away game. I would pay, no problem.
"We are professionals and sometimes situations like this can happen. It's not easy for us, for the whole club and the fans. What we can do is to play good football and try to give the fans a smile in this situation."

The fact that this was a doubt to some of our fans saddens me.
He proved his love for the club time and time again. How quickly it is forgotten since he was banned 4 years ago from being able to come watch us in England.

“As long as we have a fixture and as long as we have enough shirts and as long as the bus is full of fuel we will be there, we will be competitive and we will be there in the best spirit because we love the game,’ said our head coach. ‘This is what everyone can be sure of and this is what we demand of ourselves. When it’s a big storm you dig in and you hold together and hold strong and get through it.”
‘It’s always the best way for a football team, to carry on winning. Of course also for us it’s maybe at the moment a bit more difficult because of the noise. There will be some players who feel uncertainty, some will maybe be a bit frightened, some will be concerned. It’s normal.
‘It’s also not only about the players. We have a lot of people in the staff and in the club who are maybe also worried and scared and uncertain. That’s why it’s very important that we keep the trust and the belief in the training centre, in all of us, and we rely on ourselves and in the end allow ourselves to be the guys who take care of the sport, because we did not cause the situation, we cannot solve the situation.
‘So it can also I think give us a little bit the freedom in the end to still enjoy what we are doing and still follow the responsibility to give everything and what we demand from ourselves. This is what we do and I am happy that we can still produce results and performances. We will be on it again to be ready for Sunday.’

If we get out of this mess to some normalcy, I would want the club to sign him for 10 years. Impeccable how he has conducted himself and kept the team focused on football. I used to love Mou but I can't imagine what it would been with him instead in this situation.
