Wenger gets it wrong just as often as Mourinho and Fergie. It's just his smart enough to make gambles at the cheaper end of the market, that way his successes look astounding and his mistakes are quickly forgotten. That may sound more like a public relations startegy than a transfer one, but its worked really well for him and Arsenal thus far in general. I wouldn't have said that forking out ?13,000,000 for Silvain Wiltord was exactly great business - and hardly at the cheaper end of the market.
  2. I've been having a look, and as far as I can tell, the last player we signed from Liverpool was an outside-left, Adolph Hanson - for ?75,000 in July 1938. He preferred the name Alf for pretty obvious reasons considering the times!
  3. Deserved it???? There were a few hundred of us innocently trying to get to know the locals, by going in their end of the ground and running towards them in a friendly fashion, as you do, and the local plod waded in and started throwing us out of the ground. Very unfriendly of them, I thought, made me start reconsidering going for a nice quiet cream tea in that lovely St.Paul's area after the game, I can tell ya! You've got me thinking now - what station would I have used in Bristol for Eastville? Was it Temple Meads, or am I getting confused with City and Ashton Gate?
  4. I agree with that totally - and I'm a Scotland supporter!
  5. Eastville??? That was a f*ckin' tip! Yeah but it was OUR tip Steve! Yeah, I can understand that - I think I'm still bitter after getting chucked out of Eastville twice in one game back in the 70's
  6. Eastville??? That was a f*ckin' tip!
  7. I saw Dougan play against us many times while he was at Wolves, partnering the likes of Peter Knowles, Hugh Curran, Kenny Hibbitt, and John Richards. He was a great player, for both Wolves and Northern Ireland, a fiery character who wouldn't take any sh*t from anyone. He later became chairman of the Professional Footballers Association. I'll always remember Dougan doing his pundit stuff on the ITV 'panel' during the 1970 World Cup, alongside the likes of Brian Clough, Malcolm Allison and Paddy Crerand. Dougan & Clough made what was undoubtedly the best-ever World Cup Finals even better, with their knowledge, passion and humour. p.s. - Lofty, I'm pretty sure Dougan was still at Wolves when they beat us 7-1 in the 74/75 season, but he didn't play in that game.
  8. Cheers for that G4 - I think I'll open an account for 3 months or so, see how it goes.
  9. 50mb isn't really big enough. YouTube's size limit is 100mb and/or 10 minutes in length for each clip - and I had to do quite a bit of editing to fit some of the clips in, with some clips having to be uploaded in 3 or 4 parts. Any chance of at least matching the 100mb? Thanks for your help with this by the way, Mod, much appreciated

I wondered if anyone on here has had an account with Rapidshare? And if so, were they OK? It's just that since I've had to take my Chelsea clips down from the YouTube site, I've been looking at alternatives. If Rapidshare seem to be OK I'll open an account with them and post my clips there. All feedback on Rapidshare or any other clip-sharing sites welcome!
  11. Typical f*ckin' scouse w*nker, really The first one: - OK, I'll admit that he could look after himself, but it was a case of having to in those days - especially when playing against the likes of Leeds or Everton The second one: - We rated him because he gave his all for Chelsea every time he pulled the blue shirt on, and never ever gave less than 100% The third one: - I kind of agree with the scouse tw*t on this one The fourth one: - I can understand why he hates #4, most non-Chelsea fans did. But to imply that Graveson is a hard-man is laughable
  12. Ah, a fan of the other club in Scotland which flies the Irish tricolor over their stadium (or used to, anyway).........well, that explains a lot
  13. He sounds very bitter, but then again he does have a point....
  14. Too right. And after a long hard first season in the EPL, wouldn't you want a few weeks holiday? Especially when you're still a kid and have a bank account to make your eyes spin? Every 19 year old needs to let off steam. So good luck to him I say. Go crazy for a month and come back fresh and itching to get stuck in. Mik was the real find for me, last season. Like a young Viera. So composed on the ball. Great vision. Touch of the red mist. Not afraid to put it about when it was needed. Who would've thought 16 million quid for a 19 year old would sound like a such a good deal... With him and Essien in the middle of the park for us next season, we're going to be very hard to break down. Agree with all of that, Brian
  15. As you say, Brian, so many names..... But when it comes to overrated players, there's one stands out head and shoulders above the rest for me - David Beckham
  16. I totally agree, they seem to be able to print whatever they like, whenever they like. Makes you wonder if they get a bung from rival clubs to 'report' a damaging article against another club? What say you, Liam? Any 'journalist' who writes blatant lies about any club deserves to be taken out and shot. I'd happily volunteer to do the executing! Oh for the days when all we had were football 'reporters', who did just that - reported the news. Now every w*nker who 'works' in the media thinks they're a journalist, and are convinced that everyone wants to hear their views on everything. F*ck 'em, I say, just report facts, if I want to hear someone else's views on football (or anything else for that matter), I'll go down the pub and chat with my mates, or come on the CSR and have a laugh at G4's opinions
  17. Hmmm............Gary Neville & Jamie 'Dignity' Carragher in the Top 50?

Either Sheffield club away in the early 70's was a bit naughty, as were a lot of northern clubs. I remember being in a mob of about 500 Chelsea stuck in the Shoreham Kop and getting pelted with coins, bricks, pieces of concrete, ball-bearings and darts by the home fans, while the police stood by laughing. Similar experiences at Middlesbro and Stoke. We normally came out on top though! I took a bit of a kicking at Birmingham around that time too, but got my revenge later in the season. Millwall and West Ham were always an interesting away trip This was probably due to the fact that Chelsea rarely took many fans to Upton Park or The Den (strange how so many blokes suddenly had to work on the Saturday we were due to play there), so the brave few who did go were always a tad nervous Liverpool and Everton were always dodgy, due to the local fans tendency to attack small groups of away fans with Stanley knives. Very brave of 'em, they never had the bottle to take on the lads, but like the bunch of cowards they were they attacked ordinary fans including old men, women and children. C*nts, I f*ckin' hate scousers and always have. That is so true I recall one game at Norwich in the 70's, we took their end (not exactly difficult), and then took our pick of their girls, who were only too willing. That was the only time I've got my end away at a football match! I still laugh when I think of the sight along the back of the terracing - there must have been about 20 or more Chelsea blokes shagging Norwich birds against the wall I was never quite as lucky at Ipswich, but loads of blokes were, the birds were known for it. I've spoken to fans of other clubs, and they remember the same kind of thing when they went to East Anglia - must be something they put in the water over there! Southampton away was always a good laugh, as were Brighton, Nottm.Forest, Leicester, Wolves and Villa. So many stories to tell.......
  19. Looks an interesting site, think I'll have a gander later on. Another little known fact - Chelsea's first ever game at Stamford Bridge was a friendly against Liverpool on 4 September 1905 - we won 4-0! Another very good Chelsea stats site is CFC History - well worth having a look at.
  20. I must admit, that was the first thing that crossed my mind - never trust a scouser!
  21. RESULT!!! Great, hope it's in good nick!
  22. You and me both, mate I've got an Otis Redding triple-CD set, not sure if it's the same as yours - brilliant stuff though Those Trojan Box Sets are brilliant, there are some real gems to be found in there. Sounds like you've got similar taste in music to me - apart from the jazz stuff, can't stand that!
  23. Arrgghh! My mate used to have that album - I taped it and still have a copy on cassette. Mind you, I taped it about 25/30 years ago so I can imagine what kind of state the cassette's in now And I haven't seen that mate since leaving London in 1986, so not much chance of borrowing it again in the near future Just had a look on e-Bay - Otis Redding & Jimi Hendrix at Monterey - vinyl - it's a Froggy copy, but might be worth a punt.
  24. You've gone and done it now, Scott! I've got "Irish Tour '74" on vinyl, cassette and CD - but seeing that pic compelled me to go to e-Bay and buy a copy of the DVD! If that wasn't bad enough, I then got a bit carried away and bought the DVD of Cream's Farewell Concert at the Royal Albert Hall, and Pink Floyd's "Live At Pompeii - Director's Cut" I've just noticed that I'm bidding for another couple of DVD's too, namely "Woodstock" and an Otis Redding concert - is e-Bay addictive? I think I need help
