Makelele Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 I am a huge Simpsons fan, well...seasons 1-10 anyways, recently I must confess I have been worried that the movie will be a bust but this trailer has filled me with hope, I found it quite funny... enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-O7Nteshv4
Alan Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 Looks good. Love the part where Homer's going through the bible: 'This book doesn't have any answers!'
sweet waffle Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 My theory of why the later seasons of The Simpsons haven't been as consistently good is because they've been concentrating on the movie, which I think is going to be awesome.

I'm really looking forward to this film.
Makelele Posted June 24, 2007 Author Posted June 24, 2007 i like how they have homer and bart jumping the gorge again...if the movie is just tying up loose ends of the series then it will be the best movie of all time!...but seeing as how this trailer is so good i still worry that they have shown us all the best jokes already but i guess i'll just have to wait and see...
g3.7 Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 I read that it will tie up some episodes, but also leave some new ones open to be tied up in later episodes...
mad_mac Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 strange because I heard that after the movie they will announce no further episodes.....also, pumped about the new Transformers movie, but seeing as I was a huge fan of the 1st one, I hope this hasn't gone too Hollywood Scott
g3.7 Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 from what I've read there are no plans to stop the series (which isn't necessarily a good thing IMO), and there may be more films too... and the possibility of a spin off called "springfield stories" which would be more about the other characters with the simpsons in it occaisionally. also, 4 direct to dvd futurama films are to be made/released, and subsequently split into episodes to form a new season (quite how that will work, I have no idea).

Phillip Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 I never understood the popularity of the Simpsons, but I realize that I am in the minority on that one. Of course, I never understood the popularity of Baywatch in Europe (in the States, it was a joke during its entire run). I loved the Beavis and Butthead series, but the movie that they made at the end was dreadful. Probably killed it off for good.
loz Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 Never ever ever put the Simpsons in the same post as Baywatch (oops I just did it!) Conversely I never got into Beavis and Butthead but, for me, 'The Simpsons' is head and shoulders above every cartoon of the past 15 years (and to be honest head and shoulders above most TV programmes full stop) All time cartoons that could challenge The Simpsons...hmmm, speaking from a child's perspective I would put Mr Benn, Bagpuss and Bod in contention with it.

In my oppinion there's not one cartoon that can compete with The Simpsons but there are a few who might become as good over the long run. Family Guy and why not Futurama (depends on how many more seasons they'll make)?
loz Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 For me Futurama's biggest failing is that there is only one or two genuinely funny characters and therefore there is too much focus on them getting the laughs. The Simpsons has developed a whole array of characters which, in any one episode, can be the focus point of the story and it rarely means a deterioration i the quality of the show.
Lofty Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 Mention classic cartoons and for me, the one that springs to mind immediately is "Top Cat". But then there were only ever two series made. Loved it when I was a nipper, and might well consider buying the series on DVD set one of these days.
loz Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 Excellent shout Lofty - Top Cat was one of my favourites as a lad. As was Roobarb and Custard which I should have had on my original list.

But did The Simpsons really develop the characters in the first seasons? Futurama only excisted for about 5 seasons and who knows, we might get more character developement in the future? Fry and Bender will of course be the main characters forever and they will have most time I guess but I think the other characters will get more space too. Leela has already gotten some time on her own and I would think Zoidberg and Amy will get more time too. And the professor too I guess. I'm really looking forward to the new episodes of Futurama.
loz Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 The only real 'error' The Simpsons made early on was focusing too much on Bart as the central character and those early episodes came across as more of a cartoon for kids (for me anyway) - once the focus was moved more toward Homer as the character that everything else circulated around the show improved dramatically. That didn't take anything like as long as 5 series and I think Futurama has been too slow in developing.

That didn't take anything like as long as 5 series and I think Futurama has been too slow in developing. Moving from Bart to Homer as the central character was vital for the show in my oppinion. But do they really need to do it in Futurama. Fry is the main character with Bender as the sidekick. I can't think of anyone else more suited as the central character. I wouldn't mind them shifting the attention between the different characters from time to time so that even Amy could get a few episodes. But essentialy I feel they should keep the focus on Fry. We still get enough side stories by the other characters. Mostly Bender of course, but also some of the others. Leelas romance with Zap Brannigan for example.
loz Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 Well for me bender is the memorable character in Futurama however he isn't a big enough character to focus on to the extene tthat Homer is and I am not suggesting that they should do that in Futurama. I guess my point is that there is a wealth of characters in The Simpsons that provide a lot of support laughs which basically means there is little risk of stories and jokes becoming a bit repetitive which is where I think Futurama falls down. (I can't believe I am having an indepth comparison between two cartoons)
yorkleyblue Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 I think that Fritz the Cat stands up to the comparison Kev
BlueBeard Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 I think that Fritz the Cat stands up to the comparisonKev A true classic!
loz Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 I had forgotten all about Fritz - my brother and I had a copy of it when we were about 10 years old and we thought we were bad bad boys for watching it without our parents knowing
Kalou Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 What about our favourite cat and mouse "Tom and Jerry"?
The Moos Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 What about our favourite cat and mouse "Tom and Jerry"? Now that's a classic. Violence for kids.
