The first of back to back fixtures against Bolton. With it being a Carling Cup game I would expect to see a few changes although that might depend on recoveries form injury.

I suspect Joe may be getting brought back gradually and may drop back to the bench for this game. Paulo might start at right back and maybe Alex may make a much welcomed return to first team duty.

Sturridge could start maybe alongside Kalou if Carlo decides to rest both Anelka and Drogba.

Hell even Bruma could get a start so we might see a very different team out there.

-----------------------Cech

Ferreira----Carvalho----Bruma-----Ivanovic

------Lampard-----Ballack----Malouda

----------------------J.Cole

-------------Sturridge-------Kalou

Rest:

Anelka, Drogba, Terry, Essien, A.Cole

The more games Joe gets under his belt, the quicker he will get 100% match fit.

Kalou and Sturridge deserve a start.

Welcome back Paulo.

Lampard, Ballack and Malouda gives us a steely midfield.

Studge should surely start this one, Borini on bench.

If deco were to be starting this one i think it would be quite likely that joey will be starting in the weekend, which i would very much like to see again

Lampard and even Terry should be rested for this game.

Good one for Kalou, Ivanovic, Paulo, Malouda, Sturridge, basically the fringe players that are younger or need the game time.

Don't forget its not just the physical wear of playing every game there's also a lot mental pressure. Lampard needs to be rested regularly like the others in the midfield and the team needs to learn how to play without him.

I would also rest Anelka for a carling cup game, he's played virtually every match lately and could use a spell.

hilario deserves a start for sure, ivanovic needs a start before he gets squeezed out of defence altogether again by alex, bos and riccy, perhaps lamps could sit this one out, and kalou should start, sturridge should def feature, although a start might not happen. rest essien. malouda in too..

Hello, Wanderer in peace.

We've not reached the dizzy heights of the Carling Cup latter stages for ages, and I feel that our longevity in this years competition will end on Wednesday. As much as we have improved of late (and that is alot), our defence is still very leaky - particularly Ricketts and Knight. Ricketts offers a good attacking outlet on the right but has clearly graduated from the Glen Johnson school of defending, whereas Knight takes about 45minutes to settle, which just isn't good enough.

Still, I expect a strong side from us - if it ain't broke don't fix it etc. - and can see goals coming from both sides. Sadly, most of them will be going into our net. Probably a 3-1 or 4-2, but meh, it was good whilst it lasted.

Is there any news on Zhirkovs injury?

was thinking the same. really want to see him start a game.

paulo ivan alex bruma

belleti

ballack zhirkov

deco

kalou sturridge

If Ivan is chosen to play at right back then it has to be just that and not wing back, he worries me when he strolls upfield and leaves us open on the flank, he just doesn't have the pace to track back.

Paulo needs a run in the team if Bos is rested

i really hope zhirkov is fit for this one ... does anybody know about mikel´s injury and when he comes back? would be a good match for matic to make his debut. joe should get another start because that will help him to get 100% match-fit.

borini and bruma should get a few minutes too ... depending on how well we do obviously.

if zhirkov is still out belleti should come in at LB.

I've got to say that the main disappointment so far this season has been the lack of fitness and therefore impact that Yuri has had. You can't predict injuries of course, and I have every hope he will come good, but he cost a fair old wack and was supposed to be a player who was versatile, but also could provide a creative spark when needed, so we really could do with him getting fit and proving he was the astute purchase that many thought he was.

I'm going to this one, first game since the 07/08 season!

Fully expect some youngsters to play this one, maybe Studge and Borini to get minutes together at some point, Bruma at centre back with Hutch, maybe even Matic too.

C'mon the bluuuuuuuuuuues!

from official site:

'I have a lot of players who didn't play a lot of time in the previous games like Sturridge, like Paulo Ferreira, like Joe Cole, like Juliano Belletti, like Alex and I want to use these players to improve their condition. This isn't specifically a competition for young players.'

Ancelotti has listed teenagers Jeffrey Bruma and Fabio Borini as among the subs for Wednesday. Also on the bench will be Nemanja Matic, the 21-year-old Serb midfielder yet to start since he joined in August.

Ruled out injured are Jose Bosingwa, Ashley Cole, Yury Zhirkov, John Mikel Obi and Sam Hutchinson. All have a chance of being fit for the trip to Madrid next week.

Rested for the first meeting with Bolton this week will be John Terry, Ricardo Carvalho, Nicolas Anelka and Petr Cech.

Lamps and JT both to be rested, wonder who gets the armband then? Would say it depends on whether other national team captains like Drogs, Ballack, and Essien start, wouldn't mind seeing Joey wear it as a welcome back present.

First of all it`s awsome to see finally Studge starting. But Captain is probably going to be Joey...I mean I remember he wearing the armband for couple of times for the blues.

Hopefully we can kick the swine flu in the bollocks. I mean with the ban at the moment, it`s the last thing we need/.

One and only time joey has been captain was against QPR. Wouldnt mind seeing him captain again though.

Pardon the repetition but so, so glad to see Studge starting! Should be an intriguing match, and the bench is still stacked if things go awry!
