jcm28 Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 What do you think of the guy so far? I say he's been great and couldn't be happier he joined the club.
Randy36 Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 I'm delighted Yuri Zhirkov joined our club. He can play any position on the left. He's versatile, intelligent and an excellent passer of the ball. He looks really good. Credit to Guus Hiddink for recommending him!
mad_mac Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Looks a great player, and he is very versatile down the left. I think a combination of Yuri and Cole down the left is a great attacking option. In Fact and combo of Cole - Yuri, or Cole - Maloda, or even Yuri Malouda, are all good options
The Moos Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Great player, but he's not Carlos player and I think that is a shame. As it stands he's Ashleys backup and that's not fair to Yuri. He could walk into most teams line ups.
Cam Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 I've loved him as a player for a few years, and was absolutely delighted when we signed him....but he needs to play more to prove all those people who have said he's a poor signing wrong. He is a world class player, but needs more opportunities to prove it.
german-blue Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 (edited) Good player but still cant understand why we signed him... Hes just too good to be a back-up... Edited January 24, 2010 by german-blue
geezer Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Good player but still cant understand why we signed him... Hes just too good to be a back-up... Do you ever have anything positive to say about anyone or anything to do with Chelsea? There's always a negativity in every post.
jcm28 Posted January 24, 2010 Author Posted January 24, 2010 (edited) Good player but still cant understand why we signed him... Hes just too good to be a back-up... All good teams need great backups. He probably understands his role very well. Edited January 24, 2010 by jcm28
Alakuu Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 I really like Yuri, i wish he'd play more. Plus you don't pay £17mil for a backup player, no matter how good he is. He might be a long term replacement for Malouda i think
PloKoon13 Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 He's a fantastic player, and it's laughable that he's in most of the critics' lists for 'worst signings of the season'.
Kalou Time Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Reminds me of Essien, can do a job at full back but i feel he's being wasted there. He looks great taking on players, we have lacked that since Robben i feel. Perhaps this seasons aim is to get him back to full fitness and adapted to england and the prem. Next season when the likes of Ballack, Belletti and possible even Deco & Joe Cole move on that should move him up in the pecking order and perhaps we can see him play in the diamond as well as left back giving him plenty more game time
Alakuu Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 the Goal in the 30s mark is clearly a good reason why we payed £17mil for him, and we saw some signs of him playing like that in the preston game.
Threepw00d Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 this guy is worth every pound, we've spent for him. like said by others, its sad that ancelotti isnt really using him in this role, which he should be used. left winger @ 4-3-3 with ashley.... sunderland stomp 2.0
PloKoon13 Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Yeah, I get the feeling that if he was played in front of Ashley regularly, they'd make a devastating partnership down the left.
Andreas Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 I agree, him and Ashley on the left would be something special.
Gem Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Him and Ash should tear up the left side, Malouda has done nothing wrong, but Zhirkov looks like he can do the business, needs more a chance.
bluevale2 Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Him and Ash should tear up the left side, Malouda has done nothing wrong, but Zhirkov looks like he can do the business, needs more a chance. Totally agree. He's a fantastic player and will secure a starting berth soon. As everyone says, him and Ash on the left would be a very potent threat.
jcm28 Posted January 25, 2010 Author Posted January 25, 2010 As someone mentioned earlier, he is probably a long-term replacement for malouda. He's awesome. Hope he gets more time soon.
Chippy Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 I think gradually giving him game time is working ok for Carlo and I like the way he rotates a few players, look at our position compared to UTD and Arsenal..they play understrength teams and go out of the best cup competition in the world, we play players sparingly and hopefull they still have the legs to compete in the three competitions they are still in all the way. we have the best LB in the world and a good player in Malouda if we are playing with wingers, Having Zhirkov as back up or rotation for either is a good position for the team and the player.. time is on his side and if he is good enough he will become a nailed on starter, there's no rush.
Tim W Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Strange thing with Zhirkov is he has a seventies look, literally. Put him in the old kit and he wouldn't look out of place; this is about appearance although I think he could have played as well. I like him a lot gets stuck in, gets forward. A cold winter's night in the north west or north east is bit like busman's holiday for him.
german-blue Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Do you ever have anything positive to say about anyone or anything to do with Chelsea? There's always a negativity in every post. Paying more then 20m € for a back-up player is something I cant be positive about. Im sorry And as I said, I like Zhirkov. Problem is just that I cant see it coming that he will be prefered over Malouda or Ashley.
High Street Ken Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 I think it's fantastic that we have such a high quality backup player, who so far hasn't complained one iota about his role. What's your problem? It's not your money!

Tim W Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 The looks of George Best and the playboy attitude of Petr Cech... I was more thinking the silky skills of Peter Houseman with the bollocks of Tommy Baldwin
