Chelsea vs Inter Milan (CL) 16/03/10 1945 KO

Featured Replies

After watching what Arsenal and ManU did at home in their respective CL games, im starting to get more confident that we can get the needed result against Inter. It seems that the english teams have had a tendency to be dominant at home this year. I expected Porto to advance and I also expected Milan to at least score a goal in old trafford. What do you guys think?

I watched both the games and the way Porto and Milan played, they were asking to be hammered and got what they deserved. I doubt Jose's team would ever be that shambolic, especially in defense. I expect a tight affair... might just nick it 1-0 but to expect a result of the proportions of Manu and Arsenal is wishful thinking.

The results over the past two days gave a lot of confidence to me as well, we played well at San Siro and I dont see a reason why we cant achieve the desired result. I hope we grab our chances and we should be fine if we do so.

The two big differences are

1. Inter have good defenders, Porto and Ac Milan didn't.

2. The Inter front line aren't allowed to be as lazy as a Frenchman between midday and 2pm.

I was amazed at how languid the whole of Milan team was. Looked as if they were not up to it and had already accepted defeat.

For the first goal, where the tie was formally over, Ronaldinho was as culpable as the Milan defenders. He tracked Neville till the half way line and then gave up giving the tw*t acres of space to pick out Rooney.

Not only that, every time United attacked from the flanks, the Milan wingers didnt track back and allowed United to double up on the full back.

Inter players would put a strong fight for every ball, close all spaces and make it really hard for us... like they did at San Siro.

I'd like to see us come out of the blocks like we did against Barca back in 2005. 3-0 up after 20 minutes would be ideal.

I can't say I'm all that confident about this one. I would expect Inter to sit with 7 players behind the ball all the time and compress the space centrally. Jose will leave Eto'o, Milito and Schneider to look to nick a goal at some point. I'd be surprised if we kept a clean sheet.

If we are to go through then I think we will need to score 3 times. That's a pretty tall order against a strong Inter defence. We have more of an advantage than Madrid had last night because we at least have one away goal, but that will only matter of we are two up coming to the latter stages.

I think Ancelotti has to be smart and the team have to play in a very disciplined manner. I'm not convinced we can do that. Everything about Ancelotti and how we have played this season has suggested that we are too open. The only times we have been really tight has been against Arsenal, but the Inter match will be very different. We will have to attack them and that will leave us vulnerable to the counter.

I expect us to have a lot of the ball but if we don't play with width then we will have a problem.

Injuries permitting, I'd like to see us line up in a 4-4-2

Hilario

Zirkhov

Alex

Terry

Ivanovic

Malouda

Mikel

Lampard

Kalou

Anelka

Drogba

Exactly how I see it. Not confident at all. If Hilario is in goal and Ballack is in midfield I think we are done for.

There again a miracle return for Essien and Cech, and Mr Confident is back in the room wearing his special occaision, super confident, under-pants.

I don't fancy this match at all. Inter are a more organised unit than either AC or Porto

and Jose will have a plan which will keep it all very tight. Can see this ending 0-0.

I'm quite the opposite. I have a horrible feeling we'll be the one English team to mess up!

Inter is no Porto, they're a decent team. They're good defensively, and 0-0 suits them, so they'll park the bus and try to score on counter-attack.

If we win, I see a tight result, maybe no more than 1-0, which if good for us. However, I'm not getting my hopes high of Chelsea going through...... :D

This game will put our season back on track, don't care what the scores is as long as we win its going to be tight we score first then they will have to score that will leave them open for counter attack.so we have to score first 3-0 come on you blues

cant say manu and arsenals wins make me more comfortable about that match ... inter is better then both and they have a smart coach aswell. As I said after the first leg, I think the chances are more or less 50/50.

I think a lot of you have forgotten how well we played against Inter in the last game, despite losing 2-1, we dominated play for most parts, and I see us doing the same at the Bridge. I can also see Drogba having a say in the tie yet. Yeah I'm confident.

Im saying 2-0 us. 1 penalty, 1 free play.

I think a big reason our D was as poor as it was @ San Siro is the size/width of their pitch

our pitch in comparison is tiny, which will help us shore up the D....but that works both ways obviously, and you can count that JM has taken that into account.

However homecourt advantage(lol NA phrase) and a fire under our lads arses should allow us to win this one even irrespective of the away goal rule.

Edit; Im thinking header, as I think we haev an advantage in regards to our aerial ability over their defenders aerial abilities.

Our pitch is pretty much the same size as the San Siro give or take a metre so I don't think that has anyting to do with it.

If they try to park the bus, I think it would suit us well considering Inter seemed to be running out of gas in the first leg. I am confident we will nick this one and a 1-0 would be the perfect way to send Jose and Inter packing !!

Hope the fans get behind the team 100%, no prawn sarnie munching happy snapping sit downers for this one, loud and proud and pure blue....COME ON!!

INter are on a little form slump in the domestic league just now. They lost 3-1 away to Catania tonight (Muntari managed to pick up two yellow cards within 85 seconds of coming off the bench) which means they have won 1, drawn 4 and lost 1 of their last 6 games in the league.

They have let AC Milan rihgt back into the Serie A race.

Here is hoping they carry that into our game.

arent catania next to bottom too?

Just came on to post the same thing Loz.

Suddenly I'm feeling a lot more confident.

The guy just ran around Lucio for their third. The same Lucio who was outstanding against us the other week.

Muntari was just ridiculous.

Let's put them under pressure and see how they get on.
