Ryan Giggs says Manchester United made Chelsea look "ordinary" at times during their Community Shield victory over the Premier League champions.

United were out for revenge in the Wembley clash on Sunday after the Blues beat them to the title by a single point last season.

And 36-year-old midfielder Giggs feels the encouraging 3-1 win United produced puts them in good stead for the upcoming campaign.

"I felt we controlled the game," said Giggs. "Chelsea are a good team and at times we made them look ordinary.

"It is always nice to win in this manner and that is what we will take out of it.

"The aim of pre-season is to get through with no injuries but obviously you want to win games as well.

"We are confident and our pre-season has gone well and we topped it off with a good show."

Giggs accepts it will be tough at the top of the table this season, particularly with the threat of United's local rivals Manchester City, but has hinted Chelsea are still their main competition.

"Now there is Manchester City with their money," he added. "It is going to be interesting but I still think if we finish above Chelsea we will have a great chance."

Giggs is expecting an improved showing from the Red Devils this season, and rates Sir Alex Ferguson's squad as stronger than ever.

"If you look at the squad at Wembley, there were players who didn't even get on the bench," added Giggs.

"There's Rafael, Federico Macheda, Wes Brown, Tom Cleverley, who has done brilliantly pre-season. There's Rio Ferdinand, we have got Anderson to come back.

"We have got a really strong squad, so injuries permitting throughout the season, we can be stronger than last year."

Veteran Giggs admits he is glad to see the back of the pre-season, and is looking forward to getting stuck into the new campaign.

"My legs don't feel any worse with pre-season training because I hated it when I was 17," he added.

"Every player hates pre-season because it is all friendly games. You just want the real games to start."

What a total tool, i suppose just 'cos the won the Charity Shield Man Ure are gonna win everything again...totally deluded Welsh prat!!!

So, c'mon Chelsea, lets give it to 'em again home and away and at Wembley in the CL final......that would be sweet.

With all due respect to Giggs, he's a great player, but he's clearly been at United so long that he see's everything through red tinted eyes.

If they were so in control how did we score? And why were we the better for pretty much the whole first half.

Makes me laugh how he's just feeding the United glorychasers only to have their dreams shattered by blue ::ChELSeAFaN::

When I first read the thread title I thought it said 'Giggs has a dog' and then I thought 'Best not let Ji-Sung Park know'

I don't really care what he says. ManU is always trying to put down other teams to make their d*cks look longer. Who cares what he says. Let the season begin and we will see who finishes higher.

wow some sh*t coming out of that c**t, we beat them 3 times last season and now even before the seasons has started he comes out with that sh*t, funny how we totally dominated them majority of the game.

The reason of them winning was simply because A. Cole had a really bad game.

I expected the man to be a lot smarter than that, I guess age catches up with everyone. If they believe the hype after this meaningless friendly, I really look forward to this season.

This comes as no surprise. It's the same pikey-alike Ryan "Rhino" Giggs who reckoned Man U "dominated" the CL Final that they won on penalties after the game ended at 1-1 after extra time. He must have missed the second half, when the Mighty Blues tore them apart, shots regularly crashing into the woodwork and Man U ending up desperately counting down the clock with all 11 of their players plus lemon-features Fergie behind the ball. Time for a visit to Specsavers, Rhino, and don't forget to collect your bus pass on the way !

Great players talk only about their game and Giggs is not one .. But the english media often don't look at what is said but try to spice up the matter reporting only a bit piece in the headlines . However , With all these years watching chelsea and following english premier league , thats one thing that keeps me fascinated with the online content of the english newspapers .

Spicy masala !!!! :)
