Irish side Cliftonville were knocked out of the Champions League qualifiers by CSKA Sofia this week, it turned out one of CSKA`s players was inelligable and played 81 minutes. By the rules Cliftonville should be given the match 3-0 and would have went through. UEFA got out of it because they didnt complain within a day of the game, a delightful little loop hole they found.

That's disgusting but fairly typical of UEFA who are showing their usual spinelessness

another disgrace from uefa,it really makes me sick knowing that those corrupt bar stewards dont give a toss about how their flawed competition is ran, aslong as barca have a good run they dont give a sh*t...

I wouldn't blame UEFA for not punishing CSKA, but they really should change that stupid rule. Should be atleast 48 hours (sometimes things need to be sorted quickly) Still, it should have been enough time for Cliftonville to act, shouldn't it?

Judging by most Irish football teams (no offence Liam), the resources available to Cliftonville were probably a shed, a typewriter and three cows.

This is an unbelievable ruling by UEFA. If CSKA have broken UEFA rules by fielding an ineligible player, it should be for UEFA to act, not the opponents. They are the victims, they shouldn't have to 'shop' the team that knocked them out. And if UEFA think that's a sensible way of doing things, only an idiot would consider 24 hours sufficient time for an opponent to run background checks on the opposition players and file a formal complaint. (And fly home from some faraway outpost before starting their background checks).

Exactly, why is it up to the cheated club to prove they broke the rules? Are UEFA an actual regulatory body, or are they just there to collect checks? I struggle to figure out what they actually are good for.

They are only good for having their nose's in the trough

Like us at home to Barca! It was up to us to prove they smashed up our dressing-room, up to us to prove we had 4 serious penalty decisions turned down - not the referee, and it was also up to us to prove the steward didn't call Eto a monkey!

making it up as they go along!

UEFA and FIFA don't like the Irish do they!

To be fair to UEFA I wouldn't want Cliftonville in my tournament either.

That is a complete disgrace for sure, they are from my city but not my team

How are the club, fans and media taking it Zola? Bet they are pretty pissed off.

To be honest there has been little said from what I have seen, but I have probably missed local articles.

Its rather unfair though to say the least
