loz
We lose 3-0 and I am giving Man of the Match to Cech - I think that says everything that needs to be said about the outfield players.

Eggy McMuffin
Mikel for me, he at least showed urgency to do something, and try and make something happen. I can't wait for Essien and Lampard to come back into the midfield.

bjd
Cech, has to be Cech. Stopped a shocking result being an absolute rout. Im just waiting for someone to come and say Mikel though...
Phillip
Ashley Cole was putrid, and that was before his crazy pass to gift Sunderland their third goal. He seemed so disinterested the entire game, and I am worried that he wants out of England so bad, it is starting to show up in his play on the field. The Machine
I voted for Petr Cech. Without him we could have lost by so many more goals this evening.

Mikel was adequate, just as he has been for most of the season, bar one or two very good performances. The fawning that goes on over him by some is absurd. Let me guess, you think he ran the midfield, an old head on young shoulders etc etc, blah, blah f**king blah.

He did make an inch-perfect pass over the top to Anelka in the first half which created a half-chance at a goal, and was lively out there throughout. Guest Sindre
Mikel was adequate, just as he has been for most of the season Yes, and Ferreira is a usefull fotballer. You lack a hell of a lot when you think Mikel has been adequate this season. Without him there is now way we would be top at the moment. Player of the season so far, and the only one that is remotely close is Cech.
Nibs
I don't want to have a pop at Mikel today when the whole team was poor. But I think in recent games, Mikel has been the pick (and I voted him MOTM in the Fulham game), because so many other playuers are under-performing. Lamps has been missing, the strikers haven't been scoring (much) and Malouda's form has dipped a lot. Mikel will always be a 6 / 7 out of 10 as he's not expected to do much attacking wise and when we let in goals it's the defence's fault. Just hope we get a proper midfield back sooner rather than later.

There was only one clear candidate and that is Cech.
Guest Sindre
Whats that got to do with anything ? Making a point. How would you describe Ferreiras season btw? Adequate aswell? Should never watch a football-match ever again methinks of you seriously call Mikels season adequate.

The difference is i dont throw abusive insults the way of Mikel as you have done towards Paulo. But then im a proper Chelsea fan who will support the team and players through thick and thin (and have done), not a glory hunting cretin. BrewCrew
Has to be Mikel. He, again, has done what is asked of him. Maybe Nigeria is right, maybe he should play more of an attacking role. He was the only one who looked like he cared today.
loz
Im not having a pop at Mikel Nibs, ive said all season he has been better. But not brilliant. Its just no way he was MOM today. There was only one clear candidate and that is Cech. Clearly correct about Cech. In terms of Mikel's performance I thought it was very similar to the Liverpool game in that he was the best of the midfield three but as Zhirkov and Ramires were diabolical (Ramires slightly better than Zhirkov) that isn't necessarily saying much. What I would say is that it is pretty hard for the holding midfielder when the two in front of him are so ineffective - just as in the Liverpool game Mikel was swamped by the Sunderland midfield due to the performances of the the other two in the midfield three. I have always been wary about Zhirkov but have always taken account of the fact he hasn't had enough game time to settle in and prove himself however I do question whether he is going to be with us much longer. The formation we play doesn't suit him one bit as he is hopelessly out of his depth in a midfield three and I am still to be convinced he is a decent wing back. Essien's bizarre decision to go in for that tackle last week has spanked on the arse today.
