... We'll be linked to between now and January/Aex or JT's return.

Phil (?) Jones of Blackburn

Gary Cahill

Pepe

Sergio Ramos...

To be continued.

Anyone who can predict each defender we'll be linked with between now & January wins the prize of the most knowledgable person when it comes to knowing how the media works. There is a bonus point for every "shock" attempt we make, i.e Woodgate or Pique.

I have a horrible feeling we're gonna be linked with Gallas. I'd imagine there will be Skrtel and Agger rumours as well. Bleh...

CBs, not LBs!

Ah but he also played Centre Back...

(Marcel Desailly is only 42 and an even smaller bit)

The rumours are gonna get ridiculous. The thing is finding the right defender to bring in if Carlo wants one will be very difficult. Finding a CB who is available, good enough to play for Chelsea and yet happy to be 4th choice when everyone is fit will be damned near impossible.

yeah wouldnt Huth really fit that bill??

Oooh, so close. Everything but the availability im afraid. Oh and the good enough to play for Chelsea thing.

Roger Johnson? Chelsea fan and seems confident enough in his abilities to back himself to take a shot.He would be kind of 3rd choice anyway because Brana will still be used often at RB.

Philipe Mexes (contract up in the Summer), David Luiz, Steven Taylor, Brede Hangeland, Mamadou Sakho, Micah Richards, Federico Fazio, Phil Jones .....

I would take Huthie back. Did you see that moustache?

Anyway, my guesses are Roger Johnson and/or Scott Dann from the Brummies.

All joking aside, if we could get one of Cahill, Shawcross or Jones on a reasonable fee, I say do it....maybe not Shawcross. I say that with the understanding that Bruma isnt going to be the second coming of le Beef or something.

We've been unlucky that we've been hit by these two injuries at exactly the same time.

If we still had Carvalho, we'd be fine, but you can't keep 4 class CB's happy when they're all fit.

We either need a squad defender (which I suggested at the start of the season), or to rely on what we've got.

Speaking from a strictly Football Manager perspective, we could swoop for Preston's Billy Jones, who can play in all positions across the backline.

However Preston are bottom of the Championship and his form has hardly been world class...

manceinne bring him back from wolves? bruma give him a chance surely he'd be better then paulo at centre back. the days of chelsea spending big are over. roman put alot of money into the youth set up lets give them a chance. im really worried about the xmas period.

Sakho/Subotic/Hummels

Subotic and Hummels wont come to Chelsea to be 4th choice.. they are just too promising for that

My choice would be Demichelis from Bayern... OK he makes a lot of costly mistakes and is overall a bit crap but good enough for 4th choice. And Bayern already wanted to get rim of him in summer. In fact he got told that he has no future at the club.. which means chances are quite good that we could get him at an good price.

The two I thought that would be linked in the Terry thread were Mexes and Luiz. I've gotten one and wait for it... is Phillipe in town for the France friendly tonight? Surely one of the rags will put two and two together.

But in all seriousness I'm still not sure we'll buy. 6-8 weeks means Alex is back in January and I can't see exactly how a new signing helps us if Terry comes around by then as well. Recalling Mancienne is a more likely option.

My favourite would be Phil Jagielka - English, youngish and versatile (can play CB, RB, or DM).

Failing that, Danny Wilson, an ex-Rangers Scot, only about 20, a CB who can play LB. Trouble is, he's now with the scousescum (not first team) - though it would be great if we could tempt him away from them!

I don't know if recalling Mancienne would be the best option. He played well at Wolves over the past few seasons but he's not that quality yet. Might as well work with Bruma for a while, wait out the injuries.

When January actually comes we may have Terry and Alex back so names like Luiz are simply unrealistic because of the fee involved. If we do sign someone it will have to be someone young who has had experience playing in the league and doesn't have such a big reputation.

Phil Jones would be an ideal signing because he won't demand a big fee and he's young english and i imagine willing to sit on the bench and learn.

exactly. Cahill is talented too, but Jones has 5-6 years on him. And if he is this good at 18, imagine what a couple of years working with Alex, JT and Ivan in training and every week will give him.
