Just beat Carlo to it if the mood of this place is anything to go by ................................

Newcastle United have parted company with manager Chris Hughton.

The announcement came a day after United were beaten 3-1 at West Brom, a result which left them 11th in the Premier League table.

Hughton, 51, guided Newcastle back into the top flight last season after their relegation in the 2008-09 campaign.

However, the club said on their official website they are seeking an individual with more managerial experience to take them forward.

The statement added: "The board would like to place on record their thanks to Chris for his considerable efforts during the club's transition from Championship to Premier League club.

"Chris has shown exceptional character and commitment since being appointed manager in October 2009. The club wishes him well in the future.

"The task of appointing a new manager now begins. An announcement will be made shortly regarding transitional arrangements pending the appointment of a

Carlo Ancelotti

Speculation has been growing for weeks regarding Hughton's future, although the club stated in October they would be looking to extend his contract in the new year.

The defeat at The Hawthorns, after which Hughton kept his players in the dressing room for an hour, was the Magpies' seventh of a season in a campaign in which they have won only two games at home.

However, these were a 5-1 victory over local rivals Sunderland in October and a 6-0 triumph against Aston Villa back in August.

They have registered wins at Everton and Arsenal this season under Hughton, but have picked up only two points from a possible 15 since the victory at the Emirates on 7 November.

Those results have led to Hughton becoming the first Premier League manager to be sacked this season.

Hughton, who has been working without an assistant manager since Colin Calderwood joined Hibernian in October, is followed out of the St James' Park exit by goalkeeping coach Paul Barron.

Hughton guided Newcastle to the Championship title last season

Former Tottenham player and assistant manager Hughton arrived at Newcastle from White Hart Lane in February 2008 as coach to then Magpies boss Kevin Keegan.

He served as caretaker manager when Keegan left in September 2008, before reverting to assistant boss when Joe Kinnear was appointed manager on a temporary basis.

When Kinnear fell ill the following February, Hughton again stepped in, before assisting Iain Dowie and Alan Shearer as Newcastle were relegated.

Hughton was once again placed in caretaker charge in the summer of 2009, as owner Mike Ashley sought to sell the club, but the team started the Championship season so well he was given the role on a permanent basis in October 2009.

He went on to guide Newcastle to the Championship title with two games to spare.

Staunton/Beardsley was indeed a joke, but the fact that you have to ask, and that I actually checked to see if those appointments were made really says it all about how that club is run.

Gazza was also a 1/250 shot. Yikes

What a ridiculous decision, expect to see O`Neill turn up there in the next few days..

I think the farce of this sacking has basically ruled out any decent manager with a hope of advancement or anyone good and young-ish like O'Neill. On its face, O'Neill to the Barcodes would be a perfect, and according to the Geordies the only name who wouldnt cause them to riot at the next game.

But its gonna be another name from the familiar list. Pardew, Curbishley, Megson, maybe Rijkaard. All about as inspiring as Houllier or Hodgson.

Bobby Robson is probably turning in his grave

He was the first one subject to this god damn circus, and lord knows that gent never deserved it.

I think in terms of Ashley this will really be the straw that breaks the camels back with fans and his ownership. He isnt King Kev, but now even the players are voicing their disgust.

Seems it wasnt a joke after all, the Gargoyle and Stone are indeed caretaker managers http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/dec/06/peter-beardsley-newcastle-chris-hughton

:laugh2::laugh2::laugh2:

I think we have unwittingly just shown the ridiculousness of this whole thing, mate. Absolutely bonkers.

Then again, I guess the more outlandish story about Butch's departure is really no better. I wonder if he and Hughton are sitting in a pub, having a beer right now.

Outrageous decision. Hughton did a great job for them especially last season when they ran away with the title and this season with a weaker squad when they were relegated he's got them up to 11th place. I hope Hughton gets a job back in the game pretty soon, he's shown he can do it and maintain great dignity too.

As I say to every Toon supporter I know every time this happens, this is why you haven't won anything serious in 50 years.

The excuse is ridiculous as well, 'more experience'? So he was experienced enough when he won the Championship, he was experienced enough when you beat Sunderland 5-1 or when they beat Arsenal a few weeks back, but now with the club sitting comfortably mid-table and a very good bet to stay up, he's not experienced enough. Hope they go down just quietly.

If any set of fans shouldnt run their mouth off about how a club should run their managment, it's us.

Don't be daft. Just because you don't approve of the way this club is run doesn't mean you shouldn't be free to criticise/have a go at any aspect of any other clubs, from the fans to the players to the boardroom.

Seriously you think because for instance, the club could have handled the departure of Ray Wilkins a little better, we as Chelsea fans have no right to voice our opinions about the idiotic behaviour of the Newcastle board?

No, I am just saying we shouldnt be slagging or making too much of a mockery when we as a club are guilty of making similar mistakes.

Pot calling the kettle black, eh? Sorry that's nonsense. It's a similar argument to the one those Tottenham fans were using at vitalfootball.. who were Chelsea fans to take umbrage at the idea that Tottenham fans (or any other fans) had beaten up JT's old man, because of the past reputation of Chelsea fans. Another pot calling the kettle black argument, but that one was even more ridiculous. Having said that, I've noticed you have a tendency to think the worst of the club - you seem to be far more of a "no smoke without fire" person than a "benefit of the doubt" type of person, so I can't say I'm surprised at your attitude.

One thing is for certain. They have put us in the shade with this one, re: the press. This will buy us a little breathing room when it comes to the press spotlight, and hopefully a warning to the club about doing something rash with Carlo. Especially if that story about Gourlay's missus is true, and that incident started the whole thing.

Also, Martin Jol has resigned from Ajax. If he isnt going to Newcastle its an incredible coincidence.

WW apparently Jol resigned because the expectations of Ajax were too high with the funds he had. With that in mind I think Newcastle might be just the place to steer clear of.

I'm jus not living in a bubble thinking that everything is hunky dory in the board room when there's clearly tensions and egos
