Great pics –thanks

I was born in 1963 and collect anything to do with CFC in that year…ie pics ,programmes etc .Them pictures themselves are classic with the players looking in all directions ,the kits are just the best ever, no advertising, I love the club badges ,the terrace in the back ground, the black boots – I think im going into a “ jumpers for goal posts” moment. The best.

In the 65-66 picture what and who is Venables talking to..? Look at Choppers stance, proper fcuk you!

Happy days

PS re the Man city game picture – why would we be in the away yellow kit if we were at home?

If there was a 'colour clash' in a cup game, sometimes both teams played in their away kits, happened at the Bridge a few times. No idea who Venables was yelling at!

Don't recognise the fella next to Bonetti but he's got really long arms on him. Have a look at the state of those footballs- must have been like heading Robbie Coltrane in a Volkswagon Beetle!

To Bonetti's left is Marvin Hinton, to his right is John Mortimore (I think, before my time)

I think you're right, he's beefed out a bit from the other two photos and got rid of the rockabilly haircut.

Cheers Bluebeard for the explanation re the kit change- I can never remember that happening but that probably says more about my memory L

Talking of cup games – one I remember really fondly was in the 74-75 season 3rd round v Sheff wed at home .I was sat in the benches with my (late) old man and he hated football but I lived out In the sticks so I needed him to drive me up to the games. We got relegated in the end that season but the cup came along and I was well excited. My excitement that day lasted until about midway through the second half by which time we were 2-0 down. “Typical Chelsea” my old man was muttering to himself, “don’t know why you support them” blah blah, usual stuff that could bring a tear to my young eye. Little did he know that goals from  Droy and Garland would bring  us level and then Droy got a winner with a few minutes to go and even my old man cheered that one as it went in.

Next round home time v Birmingham…lost 1-0 “Typical Chelsea” my old man would not doubt muttered to himself !

That Sheff Weds cup game was my first real memory of large scale terrace fighting, My Dad always stood an the high banked part of the North Stand and I would go down the front, I was in front of the Wednesday mob (Hollins penalty flew right over them) and remember skirmishing throughout the game and a huge fight at the end with them getting scattered by the North Stand.

My Dad wouldn't let me go to the Birmingham match, I think he knew what would happen, and it did.  We played Brum again in the League the next weekend and I went in The Shed for a good view of the fighting but they brought absolutely zero fans that day

Next season in Div 2 was my first going alone, always in The Shed, Forest at home was lively as well as Bristol City, Cardiff, Plymouth, Sunderland and of course Millwall.

It's funny but i have no memory of any trouble at the sheff weds game but i dont doubt you for  a second Mr Peckham.....mind you my old man also took me to the well document y*ds away game  and my memory has never faded re that afternoon !

18 Oct 1913: Players from Liverpool and Chelsea compete for the ball during a game at Stamford Bridge

So reads the official caption. But I reckon we can do better than that. Yes it's Caption Competition time.

Photographic evidence to show that Gerrard is not the first Liverpool player to mis-control the ball and slip.

No history ? Look at the crowd behind and we finished miles above them in the table. I'd like to say something about arse sniffing but I'm not quite sure which team is which.

Great photo though and I wonder how many of those watching survived WW1

I was wondering that myself.

What I do know is that we won 3-0, and I'm fairly sure that we're the team with the band on the socks. Our original pre-WW1 kit featured a grandad collar, as opposed to the rugby shirt style Liverpool wore:

I wonder if "The Don" got heavy if you couldn't keep up payments on your hosiery. I'd love to know who the bloke on the left is ballboy, linesman? or a scouser waiting to nick the ball.

Where's that shirt from TD, it's one I would love to buy and and wear (if they do one in 3XXL!), the old Metropolitan Borough Council crest for Chelsea. The CMBC crest is not something I really knew about until they buried my Dad in the Kingston Vale cemetery this year and I saw the War Memorial to all the victims of Chelsea who are remembered there and it was on the memorial.

I bought one like that the other year from Toffs. They're still on sale at £39,99 but if you look around you might get them cheaper elsewhere. 3XL? Toffs do 'em up to 5XL, otherwise known as a tent! Larger sizes take a little longer to deliver though.

Sorry to hear about your father, and thanks for the info.
