Everton had won the league twice in the previous 5 or 6 years and always reckon they were a big club, but when you see their poor away following, it makes you realise how good our huge away following was. Always thought the likes of Everton, Villa and City had very poor away supports, seemed to get nose bleeds any further than 20 miles from home. Edited March 7, 20197 yr by chi blue

One cut out read “ Gary Stanley scored a goal worthy of a permanent place in any anthology of great goals” which stuck in my head. We were an Express family, so that was most likely Steve Curry reporting on this game. ( He tended to go to the Bridge a lot)

Talking about players from this era they said that Jimmy Clare was a better player than Mike Fillery yet didn’t make it at Chelsea. Amazing that this picture was in the Everton programme, first game of the season 78/79. We were so bad on the pitch and had no money that SEVEN of these players made their debuts that season. Also Johnny B was a year older and played a lot as well with David Stride and Bob Iles, all through the youth as well. We went down with 22 points but a big test for these players

I really enjoy reading the reports from our games from the past.

I don’t think it’s Chelsea. I reckon it’s Bournemouth and Spackman before he joined us
