Got a feeling the same weekend it was the north London derby where the crowd was about 10k less.

Don't remember these sponsors at all I have to admit even though it was only for a couple of games in 86-87. The company was owned by fraudster Peter Foster who took in loads of people including Bates it would appear. The only picture I can find is this one of the late John McNaught who incidentally after he died instead of saying Chelsea Football Club are sorry to hear of the death of our former player etc Bates said he visited him at his house and said it was basically a fleapit and he wasn't surprised McNaught had died sums up Bates for me.

Does anyone remember a player from the past called DAVID CUNNINGHAM. Played for some scottish teams as well as walsall aston villa swindon newport and sarfend.  Well i had a surprise when a short balding fellow answered the door to one of my customers . Mr cunningham himself.. now a careworker..still looks fit tho

Almost everyone who attended that game as a three, has since piped up with “ If we didn’t go the gate would have been 55,000 exactly”

We were visiting relatives that day much to my chagrin.

The biggest crowd we've had in nearly 50 years, for a Div 2 game.

I was there with my dad, but we weren't the last three in the ground.

That match report says gate receipts were just £42,000, with the club charging just 80p to get in, but that ignores the cost of seats.

Love the comments re the famous 003 , i went with my Dad and he hated football so no idea why he went to that game ,the lure of Best maybe. We were in the benches and the ground was full to brimming. I do have to say  if me old man hadnt had taken me the crowd would have been 55,001 ? 

From big crowds to small,one of the lowest crowds was back in 75-76 after we lost to Palace in the king fu game ,i didnt do the Palace game but 54,407 did  ,that was on the 14th Feb ,the next Tuesday 17th i went to CFC v Hull City a  0 - 0 in front of 10,254 ...to this day i wonder where the missing 44,153 were  ? 

 

Reminiscing on this thread about attendance reminded me of this match where we just had 14k home attendance.

1-1 vs Derby with Kevin Wilson getting our goal.

I could remember thinking at the time why was the crowd so low, on the way back to Charing Cross it became evident.............. Poll tax Riots with loads of police vehicles with flashing blue lights. 

Didn't see any trouble though.

Yes remember that one, driving back over Putney bridge after game, turned radio on and heard news about poll tax riots, when home saw news and watched the carnage, to think that it was only a couple of miles away up the road.

Was it really nearly 30 years ago

Aha that's good to know as at the time felt I must have been one of the few that didn't know about it beforehand.

Difficult to know who to vote for. I'm going to vote for Roy Bentley. I never saw him play but as he was the captain of our first Chelsea side to win the title is a good a reason to vote for him.

On its own, the Shed Wall at the southern end of Stamford Bridge is an important piece of Chelsea history.

It is a section of the stadium site which dates all the way back to when the famous football ground was opened back in 1905 and although no longer part of the large standing terrace for supporters it once was, it is nowadays an impressive boundary alongside a busy walking thoroughfare on both matchdays and non-matchdays.

And in recent years the Shed Wall comes with added history! Along its length a collection of all-time greats in the Chelsea story are celebrated, with images, biographies, honours and quotes, and even QR codes which allow you to find out more. Not a day goes past without hundreds of people stopping to look or have their photos taken next to one of their favourites.

Peter Bonetti, Petr Cech, Ashley Cole, Marcel Desailly, Kerry Dixon, Didier Drogba, Ron Harris, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Branislav Ivanovic, Frank Lampard, Peter Osgood, John Terry, Gianluca Vialli, Ray Wilkins, Dennis Wise and Gianfranco Zola are the names already on there, and the good news is there is room for one more.

 

But which player should it be? There is certainly more than one candidate. For the answer we are asking Chelsea supporters to choose.

Ive got a few more from that game nothing special all taken before the game, i'd put them on here but then they'd end up on Twitter, i dont mind that but i'm sure the fella used to follow me on there but doesnt anymore for some reason, i've replied to him a few times on there & never get a reply.

In fact he put that photo on Twitter i replied it was my photo & told him exactly what game it was from & got no reply.

Everton had won the league twice in the previous 5 or 6 years and always reckon they were a big club, but when you see their poor away following, it makes you realise how good our huge away following was. Always thought the likes of Everton, Villa and City had very poor away supports, seemed to get nose bleeds any further than 20 miles from home.

Only a few clubs had the whole north terrace regularly after Chelsea fans wernt allowed to use it, Utd, Arsenal, West Ham, even Liverpool only filled the whole end once or twice.
