I loved it when Ray Wilkins started writing a  weekly column back in Sept 77.

Old Git that I am !:oldboy:

I was chatting with my younger brother the other day, who was playing in the Chelsea juniors in the 70s (I think Chelsea had about three junior sides back then in the South Eastern Counties League) and I asked him who stood out and progressed from his group. He said there was no one good enough from his side, Ray Wilkins however, was the same age but was already playing in the reserve team and it would only be a matter of months before he was in the first team. He said he was a thoroughly nice bloke as well as an outstanding player.

The Feyenoord game in 1974 was a pre season friendly when we played three games in the Netherland and West Germany in early August 1974.

03/08/1974 Chelsea lost to Feyenoord 1-3 in a friendly

07/08/1974 Chelsea beat Borussia Monchengladbach 1-0 in a friendly

09/08/1974 Chelsea beat Wuppertaler SV 3-1 in a friendly

The 1-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach was a really good one as they were some team back then !

They dominated West german football, along with Bayern Munich from the early to late 1970s.

We beat Fulham 5-3 in October 1983.

Our scorers were :Dixon 9th and 86th, Jones 45th, Nevin 49th and  Lee 59th minutes,

The goals.

THAT team had been built in the pre season and the rest as they say is history!!! Thank you John Neal

I never knew we played Feyenord.  I wonder if it was as lively as when Spurs went there?

An older Spurs mate of mine, quite a placid bloke, got some teeth kicked out on a Rotterdam bus during that trip.

Spurs do have a bit of history with Feyenoord, they've had a couple of big tear up's.  Maybe it's the Ajax link but it didn't know that went as far back as the mid-70's.

It was the EUFA 2 legged Final in 74, when they got battered in Holland. Remember reading Bill Nicholson went onto the pitch at some stage, pleading with them to behave.
Following evening or one after, recall watching local BBC News around 6.30pm & reporters were at Liverpool St when a load got off the train from Harwich. Everyone of them looked like they'd been in the ring with Mike Tyson.
