I only knew because I'd watched the clip quite a few times previously, and searched for the game footage. I reckon our orange sweatshirts subconsciously made you think of Hull.

Yet from all the pictures I have seen it seemed to be the Spuds fans ripping down fences etc. Their fans rarely, if ever, got any criticism in the press. Nothing much changes I guess. Their fans in the North Stand which they packed out got upset when a mob of them came in the Bovril Gate about fifteen minutes before kick off and got a serious hiding, ending up on the grass.

I knew there had to be more to it. At the time I just remember seeing that fence shaking back and forth and wondering if it would come down altogether. Didn't Colin Lee score a couple for them that day? Ended up doing very well for us at right back later in his career

What with the pitches this lot use to play on, eleven geezers caked full of mud all sharing the same water, they must have come out filthy as sh*t. You wouldn’t want to wash your hair in it. There’s a story knocking around re Spurs when they came for the cup game in 82. John Bindon was having a early drink in I think the Adelaide ( probably picking up his protection money at the time), when a mob of Tottenham appeared outside making a nuisance. Apparantly enraged by by their front on his Manor, he went out to confront them. For those that don’t know, he was one of the hardest men in London, who was known for having a knife tucked in his boot. Probably a load of bollox, but the story did the rounds at the time.

February 21, 20197 yr 25 years ago so hard to believe we were so short of British players Rix had to play left back. It was an afternoon kick off on a Thursday no tv coverage me and a couple of mates finished work went into our local one of the regulars had a transistor radio so we gathered round and listened to it Capital Gold I think it was Viktoria Zizkov away.
February 21, 20197 yr @bluehazeI remember Capital Gold and Jonathan Pearce in the early 90s. One night stands out for me, waiting to pick up an ex from college in my car and following the commentary as we were 2-0 down to Pompey away with 10 minutes left on the clock in the Cup Needlessly to say we won and Jonathan Pearce helped made it a memorable wait!

The bloke in the bottom right of the first picture (with a mustache) looks like a Brummie Chelsea fan who used to be a regular back in those days.

Remember that one, was at game in seats in Pompey main stand, after a huge mo meadow, the classic version when you sit and then all stand up at 10, a crack appeared in the stand and at half time batesy came up and told us to go on the terrace for safety reasons, me and a few others stayed in stand and watched the Chelsea end all sit down and do another mo meadow on the terrace to make a point, half time was extended because off all this confusion. We were 2-0 down and Kevin Hitchcock pulled off a wonder save at 2-0 from Guy Whittingham, King Kerry came on with 15 mins to go, he had been up for betting irregularities or something and was giving stick from Pompey fans, anyway he caused havoc for 15 or so minutes and Kevin Wilson slid into to make it 3-2 in injury time, one of my most memorable away days especially as I live down this way. Met a Pompey fan a couple of years ago and he bought the game up, still hurts them, especially as they haven't beat us for 50 plus years. By the way the stand is still there, didn't fall down. Think it was November 1990 rumbelows cup, I was 21 and the world at my feet, what the f**k happened?
