Man City, back in the first division after three seasons away, facing top of the table Chelsea in October 1966. Look out for a scrap involving Mike Summerbee and Eddie McCreadie and a friendly salute for the Kippax from Peter Osgood. This was the first edition of Match of the Day to come from Maine Road. Notice that the cameras are above the Kippax and facing the main stand. Goals Man City: Neil Young; Chelsea: Bobby Tambling, Tommy Baldwin, Joe Kirkup, Peter Osgood. Ah, the old sweeper system. Wouldn't work nowadays with the high press being the fashion. Brilliant goal by Osgood culminating in woofing it up'em. I'm sure I was at that game.

February 11, 20197 yr Watching the carnage of yesterday's game, a smile was bought to my face as Martin Tyler mentioned the full members cup final of 1986, I couldn't resist giving a little chorus of "when pates went up to lift the members cup"

I gave my son (also a big Chelsea fan )who was watching with me, a quick history lesson on that game
February 12, 20197 yr Our first European Trophy. Beating Real Madrid - in ECWC Replay in 1971 9 mins of highlights.
February 12, 20197 yr Beating Leeds 4-0 at The Bridge, 12 th Aug 1972. 51,102 saw it Great way to start 1972/73. Osgood 45th, Cooke 59th, Garland 68th and 85th minutes were our scorers. Surprisingly only three players were booked during this game 1 It was usually much more than that !! Mind you, in todays game it would probably be eight or nine bookings with two or three sending offs...

February 12, 20197 yr I'm sure it would have been Radio 1. I met Tony Blackburn once when he host a quiz show I was on for the radio, very cheesy but a nice bloke non the less.
February 13, 20197 yr Always like older aerial shots of the Bridge. The above picture looks early season, due to the good condition of the pitch. Also looks like before the game, due to lack of players on the pitch and there are spectators still arriving. Not v QPR due to more than 2 away supporters being in the away section !
