19460904.jpg27,750 saw this Wednesday, 18th September 1946 at 17:45 A3-0 midweek defeat. Interestingly enough we played Utd soon after this game on Wed, 18th September 1946 at 17:45 a 1-1 draw at Maine Road.

Utd used Maine Road because of WW2 bomb damage I think during the whole 1946/47 season

62,850 and 63,859 spectators watched those two home games ! Football League's first season after WW2.

A 4-3 win and 2-2 draw respectively.

@erskblueThanks for the information and for the other Chelsea Chronicles. I think the pictures on the front of the Chronicles are great.

Did you go to away games by coach? I think I used to sit with you on the benches

Hi Richard, yes a group of us from Hayes used to jump on a coach that started from Orpington I think, sat in the benches for a few seasons until we decided to remove them in a lively midweek  game ! Travelled up to city on one of the party coaches and ended up at some hotel with Bates and more importantly Mick Greenaway. The best season ever!

Ha ha! cant believe it! I used to get the same coach and was also at the Grand Hotel after the City game! What a great night that was having a sing song after the meal. Hope to catchup with you at a game.

Top.Away at Maine Road, live on a Friday night, May 1984. King Kerry has just scored.

Bottom is Luton away, on their plastic pitch.

Yes I know.
