Maybe. Who knows?

It wouldn't necessarily mean the end of our chase for Modric if Lukaku took #14 but I know what you mean.

Also I think Josh could change to #6. We'll have to wait and see

I wonder if Romeu`s number is a hint to how highly he is though of by AVB, or it was just a spare number. Oh for the days when a squad number had meaning and you could see the 1st choice players by them.

I've just seen..................

Josh will be wearing number 20

Romeu will be wearing number 6!

See now this doesn't make much sense because why would a player that is only going to be here a couple years get a number like 6? Josh, who will be here a long time, doesn't get a number like that? Maybe Josh is waiting for 8? 10?

Why assume that Romeu will be gone in two years time? You're reading far too much into all this.

Anyway, here's the full updated list:

1 Petr Cech

2 Branislav Ivanovic

3 Ashley Cole

4 David Luiz

5 Michael Essien

6 Oriol Romeu

7 Ramires

8 Frank Lampard

9 Fernando Torres

10 Yossi Benayoun

11 Didier Drogba

12 Mikel

15 Florent Malouda

17 Jose Bosingwa

19 Paulo Ferreira

20 Josh McEachran

21 Salomon Kalou

22 Ross Turnbull

23 Daniel Sturridge

26 John Terry

33 Alex

34 Ryan Bertrand

38 Patrick van Aanholt

39 Nicolas Anelka

40 Henrique Hilario

44 Gael Kakuta

With more changes to come - guaranteed.

In these days of squad numbering, I don't see what the importance of a "low" number could possibly be.Look at Terry, Anelka and, as someone pointed out earlier, Boularouze

True, but Terry wanted 26 for a reason, Anelka wanted 39 for a reason too I believe and Boulerouz... err... that was probably his choice, the club can't really say no.

The reason Terry had 26 was that he was a homegrown player who was given 26 and then became very good and then it was too late to change it because fans already had it on their shirt or he didn't want to.

A good player makes a number his own like Zola. 1-11 are nice to have but often now they go to transfers, homegrown players will get a higher number as they would start as squad players, this should be a badge of honour really.

There are certainly exceptions all over, but 46 is like a number handed out to youngsters and loanees who are just making their first team appearance. 20 is a number situated among first teamers.

At the end of the day its a number and means absolutely nothing, but I think as small a gesture as it is there may be some significance in it.

Also, anyone remember how much Drogba blossomed when Duffer moved on and DD took #11? It had more to do with his adjustment to the English style of play, but there may be a mental element going on there. For a guy as young as Josh, it could give him a little mental bump.

see interview with Terry here. No particular reason for 26 http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2009/jan/31/john-terry-interview

Anelka first wore 39 at Man City, some saw he wanted a 9 on his shirt but 9, 19 & 29 were already taken and he's obviously decided to keep it, He played both 39 games for PSG and Fenerbahce but that's just a coincedence I guess!
