Myles_91
By rivals I mean traditional rivals like Spurs, Arsenal and West Ham not Mickey mouse outfits like Fulham, QPR and Palace who are hyped up to be our rivals by misinformed media etc. I know someone posted a map of this on the vintage thread but I can't remember where it was. From my experience Arsenal are the most supported London team although they are the only one of the four that don't really have a stronghold of support like Chelsea, Spurs and West Ham do. Maybe because they moved. I live in the heartland of Chelsea support but you get the odd Spud, Spammer and there are a fair share of Goons. I would say our stronghold is in Merton, Croydon, H&F, Hounslow, K&C, Kingston, Richmond, Sutton and Wandsworth are all Chelsea strongholds. Harrow seems split two ways between Chelsea and Arsenal as do Brent & Lambeth. Ealing seems split three ways between Chelsea, Arsenal and QPR as does Hillingdon Hackney seems split between Arsenal and Spurs. Barnet, Camden and Islington being the main Arsenal strongholds meanwhile Spurs seem to have Enfield, Waltham Forest and Harringey as theirs. For West Ham it seems like Newham, Dagenham and Areas like that.It the rest I can't confirm. The real divide seems to be in the home counties though. Sees to me like Surrey/Sussex = Chelsea Hertfordshire = Spurs Essex = West Ham Kent = Milwall (but also Charlton as well to an extent). Do any of the older fans have Views and thoughts on this? This is just from my experience by the way I accept I could be wrong. I only really know SW, W and pockets of NW and SE London well so apologise for errors
Mike Carefree
Seems reasonable to me..I may be wrong but i FEEL our strongholds are weaker than the other 3 at the mo tho. Edited August 5, 2012 by Mike Carefree

moi
I think BlueBeard once posted an excellent map of London which clearly showed the demographics..but I can't for the life of me remember what thread it was in. perhaps he'll see this and post it again... DaRick
Well Frank Lampard used to play cricket for Essex youth and West Ham was his boyhood club, so Essex is probably pro West Ham.
rahul
In the map, there is a small circle inside KT. Is that all of QPR support right there?

BlueBeard
Chelsea strongholds of support south of the river have always been Battersea/Stockwell/Lambeth/Wandsworth/Tooting/Mitcham/Carshalton/Wimbledon/Sutton/Kingston/Streatham/Brixton/Camberwell/Kennington and surrounding areas. The further east you go (like Peckham and the Elephant for instance) it's Chelsea & Millwall mixed.
Blueregard
when I lived in Brixton (2004) there were more Arsenal supporters than Chelsea ones. At least that was my experience. Could've been a result of the 2003-04 undefeated Arsenal season though.

I remember that Bromley was an Arsenal stronghold in the 70's, always seemed weird to me.
Katon
Well Frank Lampard used to play cricket for Essex youth and West Ham was his boyhood club, so Essex is probably pro West Ham. He also had a dad who played for West Ham for eighteen years, so not sure how much his geographical area played into that choice.

Myles_91
^^ You mean this? Pretty accurate although AFC Wimbledons support in Merton is exaggerated. Sutton is all Chelsea and Croydon split between Chelsea and Palace
Granticus
From east london all the way through to here, westcliff , west ham shirts ruin the vista Just saw this thread and thought I'd give it a bump. If you head from London along the Thames in Essex, as Mike Carefree says, it's pretty much all West Ham. However if you head more into Central Essex through Brentwood and Chelmsford, it's mostly Tottenham support.
J.J
think a lot of this will be generational, my age bracket will, and does, have a lot of arsenal fans regardless of area because when we were young arsenal were consistently one of the top 2 with very likeable players that a lot of us wanted to emulate in the playground ealing is definitely chelsea/qpr/arsenal dominated the chelsea dominance in brent surprises me, can't say that's something i've noticed but again, can only really speak from the perspective of early 90's babies
MKBlue
As long as Carshalton stays blue I'll be happy. We also have a very good support here in Milton Keynes nowadays and probably match Arsenal and Spurs which didn't use to be the case. I was delivering in Worcester on Friday and the whole town appears to be a plastic, red, Scouse place, couldn't wait to get out of there.
superdan
So going back to Norway... I scanned this in from a newspaper the other week - this is the number of members of Norwegian supporters clubs The Chelsea club seems pretty active though! Tallchris
I'd say the support for Chelsea is growing stronger in Croydon, probably has something to do with our success, I think age can have an impact as well, I think all across London you'll find a sprinkling of Arsenal supporters for people in their mid-late twenties, just 'cos our their success when those people were young. I used to travel out to Banstead for school, there I'd say it was 35% us, 35% goons, 5% 'Man U fans', 5% Palace and Spurs. The playground was always Chelsea vs Arsenal
Myles_91
Banstead is about 2 miles from me and is mainly CFC. It was always Chelsea v Arsenal in my school. About 75% Chelsea 25% Arsenal. Nobody supported Man U or Liverpool which was a good thing about Morden in general. When I went to High school in Merton Park/Wimbledon it was a lot more diluted. At least 50% were Liverpool and United, the other 50 being Chelsea and Arsenal.

Brent is pretty much split between Arsenal and Chelsea, with a sprinkle of QPR but that's near enough the same for all of that side of the North Circular. Hampstead, Dollis Hill and Neasden appear to be Chelsea strongholds
