Player Of The Month........Where Has It Gone ?

Featured Replies

Not sure about player of the month, but on SSN they were talking about the candidates for manager of the month. RDM, Clarke & Moyes were all mentioned.

Finally it's arrived.

September manger of the month = David Moyes.

September Player of the month = Steven Fletcher.

I am fine with Moyes getting manager of the month but Fletcher player of the month...........what ? Uhhhh, Hazard, Mata, Cazorla, Van Persie, Baines, Fellaini have all been far better.

You're really underrating Fletcher. He deserves the award.

Fletcher has played 4 matches in September, with 5 shots on target and 5 goals.

Sunderland, as a team, have 5 shots on target and 5 goals.

He's their entire offense. The only player you listed who has a strong argument for being more deserving of the award is Mata.

Not saying he hasn't done well, but he hasn't played as well as the players i mentioned above. He has probably player well for about 3 minutes of every game he has played this season.

That's bollocks. Hazard, Cazorla, Van Persie, Baines and Fellaini have not been better than Fletcher in September.

Van Persie has 4 goals this month to Fletcher's 5, but 3 of them came against miserable Southampton and the other was a penalty. He also missed another penalty.

Hazard finally had another good showing against Norwich, but was extremely quiet in September otherwise.

Cazorla's been hit or miss. A couple of good performances, a couple of bad. Very wasteful.

All Fellaini's really done this month is collect yellow cards. Even the game against Swansea where he had a goal and an assist wasn't a particularly impressive performance.

Baines was looking like a very strong candidate after the Swansea match, but was really poor against Wigan.

Mata arguably has been better and should be neck and neck with Fletcher at the very least.

I'm just a bit astonished that you could think any of those players, Mata aside, are more deserving than Fletcher. Sunderland gained 6 points in September. All 6 points are because of Fletcher. Without him, they'd have fewer points than QPR.

Personally I think manager of the month should have gone to Steve Clarke or Di Matteo.

Agreed. I don't see how Moyes is even remotely deserving of the award for September.

Everton lost to West Brom and Leeds and drew Wigan and Newcastle. Their only wins came against Southampton and Swansea.

If you want to give the award to the manager whose team has played the best football in September, it has to be Robbie. If you want to reward a manager achieving success with a team short on talent, it has to be Clarke. Moyes doesn't fit into either of those archetypes. Everton have less talent than Chelsea, but are lower in the table. They have more talent than West Brom, but are level on points and only 2 ahead in goal differential.

It seems as if Moyes has been rewarded for what Everton accomplished in August.

Apart from score the goals what else did Fletcher do last month ? he's been awarded for his goals that's it, not his actual performances. See Rooney at the Euro's , scores against Ukraine but was awful for the rest of the match, maybe he should have been given man of the match for that then. Despite scoring the goals Fletcher hasn't done anything else.

I must not have been there when strikers changed their jobs into passing percentages and making last ditch tackles. He's a striker, his main job is to score goals.

:laugh2: One of the daftest things in football when talking about a striker.

Hmm yes missing the point as usual, what else should i expect . All you people seem to do these days is take the piss out of peoples posts.

Player of the month awards should go to people that have played the best for that month, Fletcher did not PLAY the best during September. Scoring goals shouldn't guarantee the award.

I do understand what you're saying but he's scored every goal Sunderland have scored in the league this season and put them in a decent position in the league. I would have personally given it to someone else but I can see why.

Touchy little fella arent you. Its just a stupid thing to say, its something thats always annoyed me as it makes no sense whatsoever.

You make it seem like he's some worthless plugger on a team with so much talent that he can't help but score. His goals are his performances, because nobody else has scored a single goal for Sunderland. 5 goals in 4 matches, which accounts for 100% of Sunderland's offense, is a remarkable month.

You gave a list of players who you claim have been better, but frankly I think it's an absurd list with one exception. All you've done to argue against Fletcher's worthiness is minimize the importance of his offensive exploits by comparing him to an unfit Rooney playing awful football at the Euros, which is hardly fair. You claim that you care about the qualitative aspect of a player's performance rather than quantitative statistics, yet you name a number of players who haven't performed particularly well in September. I suspect you're part of a select group of people who don't think Fletcher deserves it. The others are his ex-girlfriends, a woman whose cat he ran over whilst drunk and Craig Levein.
