Islam Feruz

Featured Replies

I have a bot of a soft spot for wee Islam for two reasons.  Firstly, Celtic were gutted that he left them for Chelsea (understandable as they (Celtic) had helped him gain UK citizenship so he could continue to play and train in Scotland, and not have to be sent back to Somalia).

Second, he's played for the Scottish Youth at National levels so he'd be the closest thing to a "Scottish" player I am as likely to see at Stamford Bridge for a while (think the last was S Clarke)

Scott

His agent seems like a right c**t, but we have to remember that we wouldn't even have him in the first place if his agent had more class. I like what I've seen of Feruz in the youth set-up, but I'd have to agree that he simply isn't ready to play for us. We'd be well served to loan him out for a year or two.

The boy has pace with a capital P and good close control. Searing pace is a rare quality and one that causes most defenders to cack themselves. He may only be 17 but I would have brought him into the squad as cover as soon as Sturridge was injured.

His agent Rui Alves said: "I have made contact with various clubs who all want the player, but he is currently at Chelsea and he wants to make his name at the club.

"The problem we have is that we don't quite know whether Chelsea feel the same."

Jeez i hate agents so much. If i was a footballer i wouldn't have an agent, greedy sh*t's the lot of them.

I hate agents and the part they play in the modern game. But it looks like they are here to stay so you cannot blame them for getting their clients the best deal they can (whilst ensuring they too get a nice slice of the pie).

Unless we can give Feruz at least some possibility of being involved then it's obvious his agent is going to be putting his name about - he wouldn't be doing his job if he wasn't.

As Just says, with Sturridge injured and Torres mis-firing, why not put him on the bench? We could have another Owen or Rooney on our hands for all we know?

Agreed about agents, plus we can't really complain when we have got players from clubs in exactly the same way, including young mister Feruz. We use them, they use us. I hate what they do but all clubs use them.

Feruz is a talent no doubting that. Whatever you say about agents, this might be nothing more than a wakeup to the club. So often we search for the next big thing, when our own guys are never given a chance to be that. If it takes an agent touting a player for us to take another look then so be it.

One thing I will give Rafa credit for is throwing on Piazon and Ake to get a debut and play some minutes, it's that kind of thing that keeps a player working hard to reach their potential.

Indeed.

It didn't happen nearly enough under previous managers and it's something I want to see more of.

We have had and continue to have some of the brightest talents in European football but not many get a chance to prove themselves at the club and that's a shame as one of these boys could save us £40-50 million.
