Posted March 18, 201311 yr Hi guys!My name's Scott McIver and I run a blog about music in football called "Songs Of The Stands".I'm currently doing a piece about Chelsea F.C. (and "Blue Is The Colour", in particular) and would love to get some opinions from true fans.So if it's not too much trouble, I'd like to hear what you think about the song, a favourite memory, or anything else you want to share about it. To give you credit in the article, it would also be fantastic if you could also give me your first name, age and whereabouts you're from. It also proves that I'm not just making names and opinions up! I understand if you don't want to share that info with me but it would help me out so much! Thanks in advance,Scott
March 18, 201311 yr Love the song " Cheer us on through the sun and rain coz Chelsea Chelsea is our name " makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. And no matter how many different managers we have had This song along with our Ground and second to none supporters make US Proud to be Chelsea. Jon 39 London
March 18, 201311 yr You should scrap that and do a piece about the celery song. I have fond memories of the time I was shagging around with a tart and wasn't able to fulfill her needs, so out I took a lump of celery, tickled her arse, and the rest is history. Poetry in motion, life imitating art.

March 18, 201311 yr Blue is the colour is a great song and its ours we didn't nick it the way Liverpool nicked ynwa from the musical carousel. It was realised for the 72 cup final v stoke, which we lost. It's still going strong and will and should be always played and the bridge. Best of luck with your project.
March 18, 201311 yr I had a ticket for the Final in 72 and warned my manager at the time that I was going. He totally ignored me despite being told several times and put me in the teamsheet for that day. I went, we lost and spent the last few games of the season in the second team as a punishment. So that's what the song reminds me of but I love hearing the crowd sing it at the Bridge. And as Graham says it is ours, unlike the bin dippers who share it with the taigs.. March 18, 201311 yr But was it bonafide Chelsea celery Joust? or just a random by the bed piece? I'm afraid it was only a cheap replica Chelsea celery I bought off a sweet talking Chinese man on the internet.
March 19, 201311 yr Author Thanks for the replies so far guys! Could do with a few more though.... anyone?
March 19, 201311 yr There's a great video of David Luiz dancing and singing to the song after winning the champions league. Search "blue is the color David Luiz" and you'll surely find it. At the end Luiz collapses into the turf seemingly overcome by the moment. It's a bit of a goofy song but it represents 40 years of club history. I think at that moment, celebrating to that old anthem, Luiz realized he'd just cemented his place in Chelsea history, among all the Chelsea greats and all the trophies, he'll forever be remembered for that famous win. Moments like that transcend the game. Football isn't just a bunch of rich guys kicking a ball around. It's about history, and loyalty, and teammates coming together to represent the club and achieve long-dreamed and hard-fought victories. Singing songs like Blue is the Color is a way for fans to share that experience with the players, to give a club an identity and a history. Watch the video. Tell me if you don't get chills when Luiz buries his face in his hat. Sharing moments like that is what being a fan is all about for me.
March 19, 201311 yr It seems things have changed a bit down at the Bridge... Is that the west stand upper?
March 19, 201311 yr The Liquidator is the song for me. Nothing beats hearing that at the start of a game.
March 19, 201311 yr Harry J & The All Stars' "Liquidator", the wonderful sound of Stamford Bridge since 1969!
March 19, 201311 yr i agree Ben, when the Liquidator starts up, thats when i really feel that anticipation and feel like im part of the live experience
March 19, 201311 yr How can anyone hate the liquidator? That song gives me the goosebumps every time I hear it at the Bridge. Love it
March 19, 201311 yr Harry J & The All Stars' "Liquidator", the wonderful sound of Stamford Bridge since 1969! Clubs of other fans claim it's "their song", but this is what it says in the liner notes for Trojan Records' Harry J All Stars Compilation: "Way back in 1969, supporters of the Chelsea Football team revered players such as Bonetti, Osgood and Hollins. The boys performed under the watchful eye of manager Dave Sexton to the tune of Harry J & All Stars chartbuster 'The Liquidator'. Whether the tune helped the squad in their successful 1970 FA Cup campaign and subsequent Cup Winners Cup victory we shall never know. One thing is certain the theme to these victories was undoubtedly 'The Liquidator', with its Hammond crescendo that lead to the chant of 'CHEL-SEA!'"
March 20, 201311 yr Blue is the Colour. Love it, it's pure Chelsea gold. I didn't always feel that way about it though. I grew up in a staunch Chelsea family and as such (and much like my kids) that song was one of the first I learned, but around about the mid 90's we were at the ground before a game and I wasn't joining in with the singing of Blue is the Colour, when my dad asked me why I told him that I was sick of having to live of the glories of the 70's. That statement led to a bit of debate amongst a few of us and eventually most agreed that we had been clinging to the 70's for far too long. If ever a legend was paraded round the pitch it was one from the 70's, while its great to remember and appreciate the history we were desperately clinging to it. Now though I'm back to loving the song and what it represents. It would be deverstating if we ever dropped the song.
March 20, 201311 yr My memory seems to be fading at times, but didn't wee Charlie have a terrific hat on during the recording of Blue is the Colour? Personally, I love that song, it's our song! Harry J's Liquidator though always reminds me that I am here at Stamford Bridge getting ready for the team to come out. Scott
