I'm currently playing in my first season with Portsmouth - I was just wondering if anyone else had a real ease with higher rank teams, but could not beat lower tier teams? Most of League 2 teams are fairly easy to beat, but I really can't handle any team that is near the relegation zone. I beat Watford 4-1 and had difficulty beating the team in last place with the same squad.

They're likely playing a counter attacking system.

If you're playing an attacking one, you could run into problems.

I advise a control mentality. Slightly less attacking, but is far better suited to deal with the lesser teams.

So after 30 games, I'm sitting 3 points off the top in 2nd place (Sky Bet Championship)

Went on a incredible run and managed to get through the December fixtures with a 100% record.

Made a few clinical signings and got a loan from Arsenal who's practically the Championship Messi. My Skill Premier spine is still in tact as well which I find amazing. They're all rated 2 stars but still put in top performances. Got offered two jobs in the Premier League but turned them down as I really want to continue my home town project.

The club has recently gotten a takeover. The chairman is stingy as f**k, but I'm hoping he's going to give me some money next season. If not, I'm going to have to rely on loans and free transfers again.

Having to deal with a lot of players wanting to leave for 'a bigger club' as Newhaven Town FC is probably the smallest club in the leagues. Maxing out at 3500 attendance! I'm hoping I get a load of glory hunters if I get promoted though (and a new stadium). The only problem with 4 successive promotions I guess.

Second season as Wolves. Won League 1 first time out and now sitting top of the Championship in January so back to back promotions look on the cards!

Anyone playing as a team in league 1 needs to get David Bentley in on a free. He's been excellent for me.

40 games played in the Championship. 4 points off 1st, 1 point off 2nd.

I play 1st on the 2nd to last game of the season.

Tense stuff.

An update on my progress with Newhaven FC:

I failed to win the Championship but managed to qualify for the Playoffs in 3rd. After thumping Millwall in the Semis, I played Huddersfield in the Final where I won a dirty 1-0.

By far the best 'career' I've had in a Football Manager game. I've previously never brought a 6th tier side to the Premier League. The only 'cheat' I used was to create my club that had a sugar daddy so I could buy players instead of manually creating all of them.

I'm now into the Premier League and after six games, I'm sitting rather comfortably. The objective for the season is to avoid relegation. I'm predicted 20th.

I highly recommended my tactic shown. While I've altered a tiny bit it's a very successful tactic and I owe all my success to it.

Change Counter to Control and the IF to Winger.

One of the crucial things to this system however is Work Rate / Determination. Pressing in the lower leagues is extremely effective.

Never sign a player with below 12 Det and Work Rate.

Tried to play it the other day, just so bored of it already after only 1 season,.

Play around with the editor. Create your own club, start off in the Skrill South and give yourself a sugar daddy. Makes things quite fun.

Playing as Chelsea is always boring for me.

We need to return this thread to it's former greatness. If you don't have time for screenshots, just tell us about your current career

I got to a point in my Sestao game where I am in my second season of BBVA action. I got a miraculous 10th in my first season, and this season, with a better team, I won one, then lost three...and I don't know why. It's completely halted my momentum in playing.

I tried starting a new game and seeing if I could get into that (I couldn't). I either need to find the motivation to get back to Sestao, or my Chelsea game. Though I feel I may have hit the FM wall for the first time in this instalment. It always happens. I play the sh*t out of it, lose the desire to play, then come back to it later.

Oh well, might actually give me a chance to play some PS3 games I need to get into.

After my fantastic start to the season, I'm now 8th, 5 points off relegation zone.

Was 2-0 up at half time against Liverpool but they won 3-2 in the end. f**king pathetic 2nd half. Back four just completely zoned out. A sh*t back pass, a penalty and a 90th minute corner. Hate this game sometimes. Held City to 0-0 though. Not a single highlight the entire game haha.

Started a career as I always do... Unemployed. It's the best way as then you really have to build your own reputation ( I hate starting as a premiership team. It's too easy) so I went on holiday until a job was offered and then in nov 2013 I was offered the Berwick Rangers job.

I took the job and made my way up to the SPL in 4 seasons (won playoffs in Scottish div 2, won playoffs in Scottish div 1, finished 6th in Scottish championship then won the Scottish championship season after). Began struggling in the SPL and was then offered a lifeline (after building a reputation from scratch) as brentford, 17th in the championship, offered me a job in nov 2017.

They demanded promotion to the premiership but I was left with too much to do and only managed to finish 12th. I was sacked by brentford but then offered the Blackpool job in May 2018. Blackpool had just been relegated from the championship and so they demanded promotion immediately back to the championship.

I finished 2nd in league 1 so back in the championship. I was then headhunted by millwall (who are in the championship but have a far better squad/budget) and so took the job. I'm now in July 2019 building my millwall squad up for the oncoming campaign.

I will be facing my 2 former clubs next season Blackpool and brentford.

Will keep you all posted :-)

Only got the game at Christmas but carried on with my Carshalton Athletic campaign on FM 13 for a week or so having got them to League 1. But the call of Chelsea got too much eventually so I loaded it up and off I went. 1st season nothing to write home about, 4th in the league and semis of the CL, knocked out of both domestic cups early after trying to do an Arsene, the kids weren't up to it.

2nd season, got Lukaku, Courtouis and Wallace back, purchased Kurt Zouma, Luke Shaw and Javi Garcia with Didier as what I thought would be a back up. Won the league by 5 points and came out on top in a 4-3 thriller against Barca in the CL final.

Highlights of the season, Didier scoring 25 goals as Lukaku failed to fire, consecutive wins against the goons home 4-0 and away 2-0 in CL QF, Utd  3-0 in what was pretty much a title decider and a 2-1 win at Anfield. If Zouma is as good in the real world as he is on FM we should pay over the odds for him immediately.

Will post some screen shots when I've worked out how

carefree.

RE The ingame editor. if you start a new save you can disable it on the New Game overview screen.

Will give it a go.

Following on from my earlier post here is an update. So I began my season with Milwall quite well and was about 12th in the leauge come December. The board only wanted mid-table so job seemed secure. Then I blabbed in the media (leak to press option) that they wouldn't increase my transfer budget! After that the chairman demanded 11 points from the next 5 games which I failed to get and so I was sacked! Very harsh in my opinion. anyway I had to wait until June 2020 for my latest job.... Karlsruher SC in the German 2nd division. Decent transfer budget so hopefully I can get them back into the bundesliga!

First season in the premier league...

I finished 6th!

Incredible season. Got into the Semi-Finals of the FA Cup too.  Newcastle got relegated so I snatched up Tim Krul and Cabaye on cheap deals. The Europa League is actually decent quality in 2019/2020, so I'll be doing all I can to win it. f**k the Capital One Cup. I'll just play my youngsters.

At the moment, Athletico Madrid are the European powerhouses (Simeone still in charge). Chelsea are struggling under Mourinho, after some poor signings.

My reputation is nearly Continental (started off a Sunday League Footballer) so I'm expecting some good job offers soon. Still having to be careful with my deals as I only got a 7M transfer budget.

Probably going to stay though. See if I can take them to the Champions League.

First two games. Two wins. One against Man United at home. Excellent start.

Half way through second season in Premier League.

Currently 6th. Qualified from my Europa League group with 15 points and have Inter in the first knockout round.

In the Semis of the CoC (2 legs against Man City now) which is surprising since I've played a young team the entire run. Don't mind if I lose, the gate receipts will be nice. Since I was doing well, the board gave me an extra £4M in funds for the January transfer window. Will probably spend that on a quality centre back.

So I kept Karlesruhe up in the German 2nd Divison finishing 15th out of 18 which is good enough to link me to the Getafe Job. After being offered an interview and passing with flying colours I am now managing in Spain. They are in Spanish 2nd division but I have a realistic chance of getting to the top division of Spanish football within 2 seasons!

Bring it!

Started one with Chelsea, disabled transfer window in the summer to keep it realistic. Signed Matic and Shaw to be available for next summer. Willian has 1 assist in 29 games without a single goal. Mata and Hazard were incredible, Oscar was good. Azpilicueta's throws put Rory Delap to shame, the amount of headers Cahill got on the end of, Cole has a problem with scoring own goals, Luiz plays like he does in real life, lots of mistakes and lots of running whilst picking out the impossible pass, Mikel is Mikel. Gave Lampard, Terry and Cole new contracts as I couldn't bare not having them in the squad and Torres is my topscorer, realism.

How do you play Hazard?

I play him on the left wing as an inside forward. Only got a average rating of 7.05 throughout my season.

Just quit my Newhaven FC job.

Chairman was only offering me 2k a year plus a ridiculous transfer/wage budget. Got offered the Roma job. Massive pay rise to 20k / week and a 33M / 2M transfer and wage budget.

Squad is a bit light, so I'll have to do some buying. Confident I can get them Champions League.
