I read today that Madrid want to sign Ramie for 20 million in January which made me chuckle, i thought he is worth double that but then i thought about it some more and thought even 40 million isnt really good enough. This got me thinking about our players and how much do we think they are worth in todays market.

It's interesting...I think both of you have put some amounts which might be realistic prices the selling club would like to receive, and some of them are prices other clubs might actually be willing to pay. I think if you put one amount from each perspective it might be quite different.

 

For instance, you both have Cech costing near 30mil. I'm sure Chelsea fans consider him worth that, but I doubt an opposition club would pay close to that (I think less than 20mil from their perspective). Both have Cahill near 20mil, but I don't any team would pay that. We all agree Ramires is valuable to us, but I don't see other clubs willing to pay more than 30mil.

 

Uno seems to largely have valued players from a Chelsea perspective, except for players such as De Bruyne and maybe Moses and Cesar who might be at decent amounts for other clubs too.

 

It gets very interesting when you consider Mata, Hazard and Oscar...because the values between Chelsea and other clubs could at the very least be close. It seems like Mata's value to the club has declined (at least slightly), where he's not an automatic starter. Maybe the club would sell him for between 30 and 40mil. On the other hand, if I was handed an enormous war chest, I would quite willingly spend 50mil on Mata and make him the focal point for my team (somewhat like Arsenal and Ozil). Hazard is enormously difficult. He is too inconsistent to command above 50mil from other teams, but we all know how much potential he has, so Chelsea would absolutely hold him in higher stead, at least till he starts playing with the consistency of players like Ronaldo. Gareth Bale was consistently good last season and all of a sudden he's the most valuable player in the world *snigger*. If Hazard puts a season together where he's at his best 75% of the time, he's right up there near 100mil in value, but for now....

 

Oscar is another one. I believe he is possibly worth the most of the trio, and a similar amount to both potential parties (probably still more for Chelsea though). I think he's a midfielder that could slot into just about any team in the world and play deeper or in the no.10 whatever is required. He is a more complete midfielder and will possibly be seen as the safest investment.

 

But overall, it's very interesting to think about. For me as a Chelsea fan, some of these players are more or less absolutely priceless, from a Chelsea management point of view, I could just about assign a value I consider to be fair in today's market, and then impartially from another club's point of view, the value will often be cut enormously.

Players like Willian and Schurrle would command nowhere near what we paid for them if they were sold now. When doing it tough, I was surprised how many players I deem to worth more than what we paid for them. Cahill & Ba were bought in very cheaply, at a price all PL clubs could afford, but we got them due to wages & stature. However, we'd be able to make a profit on them now as they have time on their contracts and are proven PL players.

Luiz is being courted by Barca which drives his price up. Hazard perhaps I have undervalued, but if he were to go right now, this would be roughly the figure we get. Mata would probably get a fee just off Ozil.

Surprised how high everybody has put Ramires. He's my favourite player, but for a runner he is in his prime now. You'd only get 3 years out of him and then his resale value will virtually be non existent. What I will say is he is as fit as a fiddle, but he's an injury away from being a shell of the player he is today.
