Liverpool ride for the 96

Featured Replies

Touch of irony on the story on BBC website today?

Six Irishmen visiting Merseyside for a charity cycle ride in memory of the Hillsborough victims have had their bikes stolen outside Anfield.

Merseyside Police said five bikes were stolen from a van parked near the ground while the group were on a tour of Liverpool FC's stadium on Saturday.

The group had been planning to take part in the Ride For The 96 starting at the Sutton Leisure Centre in St Helens.

Liam Mulcahy, 34, one of the six, said they were "shocked" at the theft.

Sort of sums up the place really?

Six Irishmen, but only five bikes were nicked.

Maybe one of the bikes was a tandem. Unlikely I think. Or perhaps the sixth paddy's pushbike was such a piece of crap it wasn't worth nicking. In Liverpool? Nope. Not having that.

Must have been his turn with the padlock and chain.

6 Irishmen, 5 bikes, 1 van.

Why not 6 Irishmen, 6 bikes, 1 van? Even if you assume there was a single designated driver, he still could have had his own bike.

With sincere apologies if it appears as if I remotely give a f**k.

why the shock?

No shock, just find it strange that after the "we're gonna win the league" bit and the wheels fell off (Stevie Me fell over) changed back to "remember the 96" some people trying to, had their bikes nicked in Liverpool.

Always the victims...

As i just said in the other thread, liverpool has good and bad parts like everywhere else, anfield and the area surrounding it is cheap housing so you get poorer families where crime is more rife

Not that I ever did, but I once lived in a block of bedsits in London where it was common practice to nick pushbikes from the university down the road.

Just saying.
