West Ham vs Chelsea (PL) 04/03/2015 KO: 19:45 GMT

Think we need to get over burnley and give these other clarets a premier league backlash.

I'm in the miniorty but I couldn't care less about the League Cup now. Would rather these 3 points.

City play Leicester at home so nothing but a win will do for us. Let's hope we don't blow a 7 point lead for a second time.

Maybe, before this game is played, after a grueling game against Barcelona the inform Liverpool can beat City at Anfield and keep the gap at 5 before this game.

We can but hope.

You don't care about a cup final vs the sh*te?

Yes you are in the definite minority.

Three points in this match is far more important than the League Cup. Don't know how anyone can dispute that.

The problem is that West Ham are a physical team who shouldn't be underrated and once again we'll be without Matic. The guy transformed this team when he came into it and going back to the Mikel/Ramires midfield of old terrifies me.

3 points is more important than a trophy...??

f**king hell. What the hell is wrong with you?

You know if you get enough of those points at the end of the season then they give you a trophy right?

The League is infinitely more important than the League Cup. If we win just the league this season then it's a success. If we win just the league cup this season then it's been a failure.

If we win the league cup and get three points then it's a great week. If we lose the match against West Ham but win the league cup then it's been a bad week in my opinion because we'd only have two points over City.

The league is the yardstick by which teams are measured. The league cup isn't.

You're very short sighted. The league isn't going to be lost in this game. How on earth can a fan justify a day to Wembley being less important than a league game. Perhaps if it was the final day of the season and we had to win. I might agree.

You do realise we're still 1st and with the easier fixture list even if we do lose against West Ham?

Trophies are what teams are measured on, not fixtures against the Wet Spam.

We lost the league last season by four points, Liverpool lost it by two and last time I checked West Ham is worth three.

That's the epitome of long-termism over the short-term joy of winning a minor (sorry but it is) trophy. Ideally I'd like to win both but we got into a discussion about which was more important and 3 points at this stage in the season is far more important than the League Cup.

And no fixture is easy. Yes I'd take our run-in over City's but we were held at home to the team in 18th spot on Saturday. We need every point we can get.

If we beat Spurs and then go onto lose against West Ham, do you honestly think the majority of Chelsea fans will still be joyous???

Lets be honest, the league cup is a good day out but if we only secure that cup this season, then it won't be a good end to the season.

With the games chalking off thick and fast every PL game is now like a cup final. What makes this a bigger game, is the fact that we will potentially be without Matic and City play Leicester. If they beat Liverpool next weekend closing the gap to 2 points, then we will really be under pressure (albeit with a game in hand).

Put it this way, I wont cry if we lose to Spurs from a last minute goal in the final. I will be extremely gutted if we miss out of the title however, based on the fact that we've been top all season and everyone wants us to fail.

I'll be at Wembley and it'll be a good day out. But my eyes are on a far bigger prize.

A trophy win could give us a massive boost. It'll reinvigorate the entire squad.

That first trophy is important for this squad as it'll bring that winning mentality to the surface.

This is a massive game and bears significant importance in our season. Much, much more important than 3 points at West Ham.

It could give us a massive boost, or it could mean nothing. The league is the ultimate prize for this club, this cup is a footnote.

Put it like this - one of the benefits of having the league cup final is it means Matic is back for the Hull game if his ban is upheld.

If we had to lose one game, I would pick the West Ham game, for reasons above.

A trophy is a trophy. Still 1st and everything to play for. I'll take the risk of the the lead only being 2 points, come next week.

While Matic is a big loss, he isn't the most important player.

Hazard and Costa are, and we have them available. We'll cope for three games. You'll see.

No. The CL and League are both far more important the the league cup. Like Cech_Hook says, it's a great day out and it would be great to win but the 3 points in the league are far more important. They might not seem it now, but come May they could be vital.

It would provide a boost maybe, but if we don't beat West Ham then it's fairly meaningless.

Are City's fixtures really that much harder than ours?

Lets see

MC - Liverpool Away (Pool coming back from a Europa Clash in Tukey

CFC - Leicester City Away (postponed)

MC - Leicester Home - Banker

CFC - West Ham away - Tough game

MC - Burnley away - Should win

CFC -  Saints Home - Should win

MC - West Brom Home - Banker

CFC - Hull away - Should win

MC - Palace away - Away win

CFC - Stoke Home - Banker

MC - United away - City have a good chance beating them

CFC- QPR away - Their cup final

MC - West Ham home - Banker

CFC - United home - Should win but they'll find it easier against us than City

MC - Villa home - Banker

CFC - Arsenal away - Could end in a draw

Ok you see where this is going. I struggle to see how our fixture list is easier than City's when you look at it on a week by week basis.

Or a defeat could reinvigorate the entire squad to win the league? Just saying.

Your opinion, which I majorly disagree with. I hope that you're shoving this in my face in May however, but right now it seems you're blinded to the threat below us.

Edited by Cech_Hook

There are both pros and cons to look at what both Joey and Daze are saying.

A loss against West Ham in the place of winning and celebrating a trophy would be hugely damaging in the title race as it would no dount mean a 5 point lead becomes 2 and that's one result away from tipping the scales in City's favour.

They have been there and done it before....

We only have Jose, Terry, Ivan, Mikel and Drogba who have been there and done it before... That kind of mental advantage can become as good as a win in some cases.

Of course though winning a trophy and this particualr trophy is important in that it brings confidence and also was the first trophy Jose won before delivering the title later in his first season so good omens too!

What would I personally rather? A win in both of course but I have major doubts that will happen as both games are too close together and a win/loss will take it out of us too.

I can see where both are coming from.

I don't agree with any of you.

You're welcome to your opinion though.

We need that winning mentality instilled in the squad. The sooner, the better.
