Chelsea vs PSG (Champions League Second Leg) 11/03/2015

Featured Replies

Was honest. We were 2nd best and PSG deserved their win.

Honest?

He said: "From the start, we played to win".

What a joke.

what the f**k is wrong with loftus cheek, he's gotta be a better option in centre mid than zouma, surely? atleast he's young, and got hunger all this to young bollocks, the schalke  goalie was 19 last night FFS against real!

Agreed that there's an argument to trial the likes of Loftus-Cheek partnering Matic and push Fabregas higher, but you don't 'bed in' youth in our biggest game of the season.

Zouma put in a good shift.

Forgot to mention the abuse David Luiz got from our supporters from the minute him and Diego started the Brazilian circus was unfair and I'm sad it happened. All one has to do, if you can't remember his time with us, is to look at his facebook page and his posts about Chelsea the past few days. Wishing a happy birthday to the club, being happy to be back in London... Shame what has become of Stamford Bridge. But I doubt many true supporters who value such things got anywhere near the Bridge, which is usually the case nowadays.

Yeah that was disappointing. He is going to try and help his team win, as did Frank for City and as Drogba did for Gala. Nothing wrong with that, that is their job.

He left on good terms and always gave his best for us. He was superb in Munich, I do not forget that.

Good, but how honest. Did he give our players, the fans at the Bridge, and himself, the boll*cking they all deserved too?

I believe Mourinho intended to go for the 0-0 and probably would have succeeded if Zlatan remained on the pitch. The way we played in the first half up until the red card was solid with no chance of conceding and every chance of scoring on the counter, especially with an away goal advantage.

The sending off seemed to give PSG more impetus and our game plan didn't appear to have any contingency in place to cope with the situation.

There was a moment when Costa ran to the bench asking for some direction and it seemed like they hadn't prepared for such an eventuality.

Ironically the pre-match press conference highlighted the fact PSG were the most aggressive team we've faced all season ahead of league 2 and league 1 sides we've played in all domestic cup competitions.

Goes to show how influential Mourinho can be as the referee has taken note and sent off their best player in the first half!

It's unfortunate to lose on this occasion but you can't win anything without taking a risk. On this occasion the risk hasn't gone in our favor but you gotta appreciate what Mourinho was attempting to do and hats off to the team for trying their best.

did you miss the part where he smashed costa in the face with his elbow?

What on earth are you rambling on about?

Horrific for a few weeks? We beat Tottenham to win silverware.

I never said we didn't win anymore, i said we play some horrific football. That game against Spurs wasn't exactly sensational.

Outplayed and outstrengthened I agree but not outclassed. They weren't particularly spectacular. Jose and his boys made them look good. Don't understand why you bring on The Drog and don't get the team to play to his aerial strength. No balls looking for his head when he was in good positions in the box. Instead messrs Fabregas,Hazard,Ivanovic and Willian kept trying their intricate passes in slow motion that hasn't worked in like 10 games now.

Outclassed is debatable but you don't score 2 goals with a man down against a team 5 points clears in arguably the best league in the world withput meriting it to some extent.

Agreed their little tippy tappy passes are silly at times and they don't fool anyone. Fullbacks know Willian isn't going to run them and whip a cross in or run in to the box. He's gonna dummy and pass back to Ivanovic or Hazard runs across to be passed to amd he inevitably runs into the same position Willian was in. Even Stoke don't "play like stoke" anymore but here we are trying to walk across the line in a champions league tie. I really really hope we don't fluff the league now.

schalke did with a 19 year old keeper against, ronaldo, bale, benzema etc... and he did well.

Behave mate.

He got applause and respect until he started acting like a c**t.

You stick the Facebook sh*t and we'll judge him by his conduct on the pitch.

Some of the attacking play did make me think of Arsenal at their worst. No one seems to want to take a strike on from outside the box anymore.

Not sure why Ramires turned down a few chances to take on a few right footed efforts but then took on one on his left peg.

exactly that brana, willian, hazard, interchange down the right is so f**king predictable!

I didn't see the after match Press conferences.. But.
if Jose said we played to win tonight, then i'm sorry but that's total bollocks. We sat back and tried to control possession for the whole of the second half against TEN MEN.. Shameful.

What did he say?

he said paraphrasing: paris was better than us and deserved to win, we played really bad, he wont break doors and smash tables but will get all the players tomorrow and will talk with all of them to find out why they lost it under the game pressure .. that we have to find a solution for our bad game tonight

and at the end that now we have to go and win the league

You know, if anything, being top of the league with a game in hand should give us more freedom in the CL. Why not go for it and lose that way, if you lose at all? If you go out you tried and we still have a chance at the title. We have something left in our season. It should be less pressure, but everyone out there just seemed to be crushed under the pressure.

Agreed - if we want to advance as a club, we have to get out of our comfort-zone and impose ourselves on games. We're too used to being the underdog, with the world against us. We keep building beyond that stage (ie - the start of this campaign), then getting caught in the headlights when the expectation to always win starts to build.

Even the best sides lose, but we shouldn't be afraid to. At the moment our mentality is that a draw is better than a defeat. The best sides have to go all in.

No excuses here, against 10 men we should have taken the game by the scruff of the neck and put it to bed long before David Luiz had the opportunity to equalise with that bullet of a header.

Firstly, Ibrahimovic should not have been red-carded, David Luiz should have been given a straight red for taking out Costa, Costa was again denied a clear-cut penalty, and the referee was dishing out cards like confetti. That he also let so much go is a strong indication of how inconsistent was his decision making. Given this inconsistency, it would have been natural for the players at 0-0 and even more so at 1-0 up, to sit back and think to themselves: "Let's' just try and get though this one unscathed."

If PSG weren't affected in this respect, it's because they had nothing to lose. Already down to ten men, that David Luiz should have walked, that Verratti was again amazingly fortunate not to have been awarded two yellows long before he was taken off would have been irrelevant. From their point of view, at the worst they would have gone out as gallant losers, having been unjustly forced to play the majority of the game a man short.

Our players on the other hand would have been well aware, certainly after half time, that Ibrahimovic was harshly dealt with, and given the inconsistency of the referee could have been forgiven that this ref may have been tempted to make amends by sending off a Chelsea player or two, given half a chance. Ok we should have dealt with it, we should have been professional enough to see the game through. But we didn't and that's that. Out of the Champions League with a whimper.

Maybe I should feel annoyed, upset, disappointed at exiting the competition. But for reasons that I find impossible to explain, I'm nowhere near as pissed off either at the defeat, or the manner of the defeat, as I'd have expected to be.

One of the most disappointing things for me was the complete lack of fight shown when they scored the second. It was similar to when Burnley equalised, we didn't look like we believed/had as much desire as the opposition to go on and win the game.

We had no ideas to be fair. All game no ideas. Every move we tried we over did it, one pass too many. Or we just got the final ball badly wrong time after time. We only scored because one of our many poor choices in the final third was Costa's air shot that went to Cahill for the one quality finish we had in us, and got the other because of Silva making a bad choice.

If the game was still being played right now we would not have added another goal unless PSG gave it to us or we got lucky. It was just one of those nights.

Would be interested to know what you would expect from the team in a second leg tie at home with the scores at 1-1?

edit: From a tactical perspective as a manager

True, I don't disagree with anything you've said.

But still, the minimum in those final minutes should have been to show some real urgency, take some risks and throw everything at them.
