Yeah, he was top English scorer in 2001 but in the overall rankings was second to Hasselbaink.  Also, do you remember Michael Bridges? He scored 19 goals the season before that.

Kevin Phillips once managed 30 league goals for Sunderland back in 2000 as well, forming a lethal partnership with Niall Quinn.

I suppose while we're on the topic it's worth mentioning another half-season wonder - Darius Vassell, who somehow managed to con twenty-two England caps!

 

To put it into perspective, that is more than Dennis Wise, Les Ferdinand, Dixie Dean, Andy Cole, Trevor Sinclair, and is more than Kerry Dixon and Peter Osgood combined!

There was some discussion about not having single threads for players and instead starting threads more frequently to discuss particular incidents or subjects so I don't know if it was to do with that or just an oversight by the moderators? 

 

Either way, that's why I started new Costa and Cuadrado threads so you can all bow down to me and my thread making skills and my ability to give them ingenious titles.

I wen't into it there to check but didn't seem anything bad was said, I thought it might be size but we had a Torres one hundreds of pages long!

He did spend a lot of time shunted out wide (although we were particularly narrow). The season when he was top scorer was under Scolari (and later Hiddink) when Anelka was used as the main centre forward, when Drogba was out of favour and looked like he was going to leave.

Am I the only one worried about the long term effects these hamstring issues will have with Diego?

I mean a years a very long time to be dogged with the same issue.

Can't rush him. I mean it was only a strain last time and the medical staff said he was good and that happens.

We need to be very careful with him, I'd be inclined to rest him for the remainder but as it is it could get to the point we will need him desperately like Atletico did last season.
