Petr Cech to Arsenal

Featured Replies

Give me a break with this bollocks mate.

Are you suggesting that Cech will have signed for fecking milwall if arsenal job wasnt available. All for jacks fecking b'day. Tell you what, he would feck off to paris before we could correct the spelling from check to cech.

Why bother with hypotheticals? The reality of the situation is he wants to play in a certain city at a certain level and that job is available. We agreed to let him go if certain conditions were met apparently and we're sticking to that. No it's not ideal but the world isn't all gumdrops and rainbows. You don't have an entitlement to everything going exactly as you'd like in this world. No one does.

As for Jose having his job made hard, the club gave him the best young keeper in the world for the next decade to go alongside the best young player in the world and a huge pot of money. If he can't win the league with the that then that's not the clubs fault.

But according to the reports of a gentlemans agreements, that was what we said to him last summer. We got a year out of him while we blooded Courtois and he spent a year on the bench. Now we're letting him go where he wants so long as we get a fair few for a 33 year old keeper in the last year of his contract. The reason he's getting this consideration is because of who he is and the connection that he has to this club. Feel like I've had to express that sentiment about a hundred times when I didn't think I'd have to explain it once to a Chelsea supporter.

If there was a gentleman's agreements, I'd question who was involved because it seems to have escaped the manager. I'm not keen on blindly believing what's being reported, especially when it comes to anything that could make Chelsea look bad and is unsubstantiated. That's just easy headlines for many a tabloid.

I understand what you are saying, I just feel that those feelings shouldn't just go from the club and fans to Cech, but also from Cech to the fans and clubs. He was a legend for this club that got treated and paid like one. I don't see where there is this extra debt to him stems from.

You could argue that maybe Cech is worth 15-20 million but in terms of the difference he will make to Arsenal, he will be like brining in another Sanchez. He is a proven game winner, he is a player that makes your team take a huge f**king massive stride to being title winners. He is worth far more than 10 million to them and they know it but are leveraging Romans good feelings towards Cech. Cech doesn't seem to mind this happening.

For anyone deluding themselves that Cech isn't going to make a big difference for Arsnal, first of all LMAO LOL LOL, second, I suggest you look at his last decade or so of performances. Maybe pay special attention to a certain 2012 CL run. Arsenal drop points they shouldnt, Cech saves points his team have no business earning. That's going to be a double whammy of good things in the league table for Arsenal.

Since this all comesdown to a gentleman's agreements, loyalty and friendship let me ask this. Do you think a true friend, some one who was truly loyal, do you think they would ask you to repay a favour by cutting your own throat figuratively to help out one of your biggest rivals/enemies?

How strong is his connection to this club if he insists on this move? Funny isn't it, since that's why he's supposed to get the move.

The gaping hole in the argument being the fact that arsenal have an equally talented winger in his prime and we are gifting them arguably the best keeper in the world (taking into account his experience) in his prime. Oh and not to mention that they have an even bigger pot of money at their disposal.

How does this not equate to making Mourinho's job more difficult, I do not understant.

It also makes Van Gaal and PelligrinI's jobs more difficult a stronger Arsenal doesn't help them much...Every cloud and all that...I hate the thought of Cech going to any serious rival but it looks like we are honouring our agreement, cold comfort I know but it looks like a done deal.

Umm, Cech has been replaced, so he wouldnt be playing for us anyway, as Courtois is deemed to be better and more reliable now. No one wants to see him go to Arsenal, but I wouldnt say Cech is in his prime, that was a few years ago.

Certainly a great keeper still, but come on.

As for Jose to Utd, your arguments just seem a bit bizarre and almost troll like!

Cutting our throat? Sorry, but what exactly are you demanding that he do?

I think his connection to this club is still strong, just like Franks. But he's still a competitive sportsman and going to Arsenal ticks all the boxes. We could hold him here for another year but then we're saying to him thanks for giving up one season whilst we blood your replacement, now we're going to make you waste another because a small minority of fans are afraid of competition.

That's the ultimate point. If our competitions get better, then we have to get better. That's what sport is. You aren't entitled to titles just because you support Chelsea. It's going to be tough next season and maybe selling them Cech makes it a bit tougher but true champions overcome those challenges and that's what I think this team is.

Courtois is potentially better than cech, not currently better than him. Courtois had several mistakes this season that Cech never makes.

Jose has mentioned that if he was ever let go by Chelsea, he would prefer to stay in england. United will be the obvious choice.

1st point is very hard to justify. ... can you elaborate on this ? Second point is a far point. I took it more as a thinly veiled threat but it's it's a fair comment. He also said he'd stay as long as he's wanted.... so as long as he keeps performing he'll always have a job here.

But Petr did make mistakes in the 2013-14 season. He actually seemed to develop a real issue with crosses especially from set pieces. Many people commented on it at the time so if he does go to arsenal and we face him, I'd say we just pepper him with crosses and put him under pressure at every turn.

Mistakes against stoke and hull come straight to mind. Cech has not make such mistakes in years. Its a well accepted notion that most GKs are at their best in early 30s

Now the Mail are reporting its done at £11m. Piss poor business by the club is this is true.

They better sign a pogba or a bale now along with a top top back up keeper to have a good season ahead.

Yeah several sources now reporting he's signed for £11 million.

Sad day for the club.

Thanks for the memories Pete but I hope you flop over there and hope Costa put's a hat trick past you come Wembley.

6th most expensive of all time and none in the top 10 is older than him. Great bit of business by the club to go from one world class keeper to another without skipping a beat. If anyone wants to criticise the club for this then can they point to another team who did that?

Arsenal are stronger so now we need to focus on being even better. Winners do that. Losers don't.

Oh well we've been here with Lampard and to a lesser degree, Mata...Sadly older/out of favour players do get moved on, he's 33 now but still has plenty of life in him....What I'm really dreading is the day JT goes...He really is going to be a hard act to follow.

Make this post sticky. Should serve to educate the naive ones among us when arsenal knock us out in the cup next season or worse beat us to the league.

And if we win the league?

Jose clearly prefers Thibo, and Cech doesn't want to sit on the bench...Not sure what else the club can do...Its all very well to say make him play out another year but that's hardly the way to treat a much loved and brilliant player, he wants to stay in London and that's that...Arsenal will be improved no doubt, but Cech is not a miracle worker, and he too has a rick or two in him...

Still gutted mind, but that's football.

And if we win the league?

So you are okay by cech knocking chelsea out of CL / FA cup. Getting wenger his first win over Jose and all.

Basically this move still fecks with the natural order of the universe, for me.

Has that happened? I'm still backing my team to win the league and beat arsenal if we meet them in the cups

Well of course I'm not...But are you suggesting the club let Courtios go to a rival, and then everyone would be moaning about letting one of the brightest young prospects in Europe (goalie wise) go elsewhere ?

Its a straight choice between the past and future, both of them want to be first choice,  if it turns out to be a mistake then so be it.

Wengers smug face will be punishment enough to last everyone a lifetime...Urgh

It very likely will. Now we can just hope that arsenal dont land a good striker.

Additionally I will be hoping that cech sits out most of the season with a wrist injury, that should serve everyone well.

It's not very likely at all. As for wishing injury on someone like Cech, it shows a distinct lack of class.
