Petr Cech to Arsenal

Featured Replies

Handed over one of the best keepers in the world to a rival club for a pittance. Great bit of business that.

Could have let him go for free next season. Cutting off our nose to spite our face is an even better bit of business.

Unfortunately as soon as we made the expert bit of business of signing Courtois, something like this was a possibility. Cech served us well, spent a year on the bench without asking for a transfer and is now leaving. Those slating this business....hopefully we'll win the league and that might appease you.

It's not very likely at all. As for wishing injury on someone like Cech, it shows a distinct lack of class.

For me it shows my total love for Chelsea and nothing else. Moot to argue over this, but yeah I am not one bit ashamed to say I dont wish him well now.

Sigh, I'm with Blue Daze on this one. Yuck.

Someone said on Twitter that family comes first before everything, I guess if you believe that you're a bit more understanding (if not upset/pissed off) of this move than others. I don't know, just my opinion. He's not first choice, we have a better goalkeeper who is, he has a year left on his contract... £10m or what? Free in a year? And sour a relationship even more? It's not like Pete can fight for his place, not in that position, not really.

I hope personally he & his family remain happy in London. Professionally I hope it's a complete wreck...! I will also say if Arsenal win the league or beat us or whatever next season then it'll be down to more than their goalkeeper.

Would never wish an injury on Big Pete he is and always will be a Chelsea legend, I just hope he doesn't do half as well as he has done for us for them.

I absolutely hate Arsenal. Seeing Petr in their team won't change what he's done for us in the past but will almost definitely change how i see him in the near future. If he makes crucial saves against us in the Community shield and wins it for Arsenal, i won't be raving about his past glories. I will have time to reminisce over Petr's history with Chelsea and his legendary status, but once he holds that Arsenal jersey i can only wish him disappointment. One of the worst transfers, selling transfers, in our history in my opinion. Loathe this.

Imagine if they beat us on pens in the Shield, I think I'd cry Community Shield or not

We could have insisted he go somewhere other than Arsenal. We could have held out for a fee that Wenger can't recoup by flogging a couple of fringe players. We could have at least wangled Ox or Walcott out of them in exchange, like they made sure they got Gallas before letting Cole join us. Instead, there is nothing in this deal to our advantage.

It's an utterly stupid piece of business, brilliant for Arsenal though. There's no getting around that. Perhaps those touting this as some great deal for us will change their mind when he makes a last minute match winning save in front of the Shed, the type of save Almunia, Chesney and all those other second rate keepers of theirs would never have made.

Wishing injury on him is pathetic, get a grip you daft sod.

Youre the daft sod here if you cant see we've being turned over by cech here.

Everyone from Zola to Terry to Gudjohnsen have sat on the bench for long period of time. Cech has totally taken the piss out of Chelsea here.

Which club? How would that have affected this supposed gentleman's agreement or is that not something that bothers you? Maybe we didn't want Ox or Walcott? Maybe they valued them both higher than we were willing to go.

People like you almost seem to be wishing that Cech costs us points. Why? To win an Internet argument? Great fans people like you are.

Me, I'm hoping that this pushes us to improve even more so that we're that much better than we were last season. I'm not dreaming up scenarios where he is key to us losing points like or matches like you or Indigo. I'm also not hoping he gets injured.

Ultimately it is what it is. It's a result of us acquiring and developing a massive talent in Courtois and treating Cech with respect. Amazing that fans like you completely overlook that.

you are the epitome of the modern fickle football fan. 11 years of great service, and you think he has shown no loyalty? where is your loyalty to a great player? cech hasnt caused this situation. he wanted to play for chelsea. he has been dropped to number 2, and now wishes to be number 1 elsewhere. what is the issue?

Chelsea fans have a bad reputation, and it's because of people like you, and comments like that.

Fully understand the sentiment of the club in allowing Cech to hang around London...pity Palace, West Ham or Watford were not in the choices being offered...still silly in my mind to flog him to a strong rival for that amount of money, should have held out for more or at least got something back in return....bet Jose is pleased as punch with this deal. :face_palm:    Anyway no grudges from me I wish him the best, he has done us proud over the years and won us a few trophies along the way.

Blue daze, if selling not only to a local rival, but a direct title rival, one of the best players in the world at their position, which just so happens to be their biggest weakness and point holding them back from actually competing with us, and at a bargain bin price too, isn't cutting your own throat in club football, what is?

Top 10 expensive goalies mean nothing, this is a market where a decade ago 30million got you the very best but now it gets you Andy Carroll. Also, is that list NPV'ed or are we saying 100,000 grand a century ago has the same value today? Also, are you considering that GK of Cech's quality rarely ever move once they are at a big club? How many of those top 10 included experienced GK that were among the best in the world?

Also, what Cech is worth depends on the club. If we didn't have Courts or Cech, we'd certainly not be getting Cech from Arsenal for 10 million even at his age. They are desperate for a world class goal keeper, you don't give desperate people you compete with the better end of the deal. At a minimum, Arsenal should have to match any other incoming bid and I struggle to believe a club like psg, or Manu with DeGeas gone, would not offer substantially more than 10-11mil for a one of the best in the world that still has 5 seasons or more in him. I repeat, world class keepers in the modern age ( probably before that too) playing well until their 40s, give or take a few, is the norm now and not the exception. Buffon, about 5 years older, just was MOTM for his team in a CL final. Van Der Sar was great for United in his late 30's etc. This is curing Arsenal's problems with the best possible solution for about 2 million a year.

I like Cech and respect him as a legend but I see him getting accommodations I've not seen before. Why does the club owe him this move on the cheap? Because he played well when the club gave him a chance on the biggest stage? Cause he stayed at a club where he was handsomely paid and constantly winning or competing for all the top prizes?

And whats this if we strengthen them we will get better nonsense? What bollocks. Show me any company that intentionally weakens itself to strengthens it's rivals to end game strengthen themselves and I'll show you a failing business. f**k it, then why don't we sell them Costa, Hazard, Matic and Dave while we are at it? Then they'll be super strong which somehow means we will be better? That is some serious straw grasping there, addition through subtraction doesn't work when you are subtracting an asset and not a liability. Especially when our asset subtraction leads to a rivals asset additions. If this logic worked, why don't we see clubs selling top tier players to rivals for bargain prices nonstop?

If Arsenal win the title with Cech next season it won't be solely cause of him but it will be in large part that they got a top GK in the world pretty cheap allowing them to spend heavily in other positions. It won't be the sole reason but it will be a rather large reason why. Kind of like Hazard isn't the sole reason we won the title.... but I struggle to see us winning it without him.

Now the Mail are reporting its done at £11m. Piss poor business by the club is this is true.

They better sign a pogba or a bale now along with a top top back up keeper to have a good season ahead.

I agree that at 11 million it's not exactly the razor sharp business we've become accustomed to.

We will not be buying pogba, bale, varane, griezmann etc. I fully anticipate our signings to be for squad depth, hence our links to the likes of Alex song.

I fully believe that arsenal will push hard next season though, and I'm a bit surprised that we haven't been moving early like we did last year to tie up some bigger names.

Hope this cech situation doesn't cause friction between Jose and Roman. Can do without that f**king drama

Haven't read the whole post but we've kept to an agreement we made with a loyal servant last summer. That's the long and the short of it. We've treated a legend with class and some will agree with that, others won't. Some would've stuck him in the reserves, others would've sold him abroad.

Me, I'm not happy arsenal are stronger but I don't see another outcome that didn't lead to us treating him in a manner I disagreed with. Ultimately we all decide what we are comfortable with based on our character and our morals.

A gentleman's agreement that we'd sell him to Arsenal? I find that hard to believe. I find it even harder to believe that Mourinho would have agreed to it.

People like you seem delighted with a deal that has massively benefited Arsenal but not us. What kind of Chelsea fan are you? Me, I'd prefer the club to have looked after its own interests first and foremost, and it certainly is not in our interests to be doing Arsenal favours.

Of course Cech will return and haunt us in some way. That's what happens when you sell great players to rival teams. Why sit there in denial?

Then who ever made that agreement had a spectacular moment of stupidity. I have no problem with Cech being given his pick of places to go, my problem is that I feel we hugely strengthened a rival (in terms of fanbases and both competing for top prizes) for a pittance in the process. Yes, I'd rather nothing in a year than 10 million from Arsenal now.

I feel that it is Cech now who hugely and firmly owes the club. Perhaps he will repay us with some grease up goalie gloves or slow reactions on the minimum 3 times we will face them next season....hopefully their was some gentleman's agree to that affect, seeming he's getting all his wishes at great expense to the club and fans.

Bound to cause friction with Jose, just hope the situation does not implode like it did last time.

Wouldnt bet against it though.

And that's deserving of wishingban injury to nba player that has helped us to be in everything? Grow up, wishing injury on any player is stupid, wishing it on someone like cech is a c**ts trick

If you believe in reputations then youre just way to dumb to respond to and i'd ideally tell you to piss off, but will still humour you on this one.

There are plenty of teams that will take him as no1. He wants to go to arsenal because he can help win them stuff, by beating Chelsea.

I also have not seen this broth up but I also fear a Viera situation. Legend as a player for Arsenal, finished his playing days at Man City and guess which club he now works as an ambassador for, amongst other roles?

Itll be damn apocalyptic with me if I see Cech representing Arsenal in 10 years as an ambassador or a role within the club and Cech is certainly a smart guy with tons of value to him even after he hangs up his gloves.
