Petr Cech to Arsenal

Featured Replies

It sure seems that way. I'm sure Beeney will do a decent job if he stepped up but still, not really the same.

As for Cech himself, I don't really care. He can do what he wants, I'll be happy either way. If he does go to Arsenal and they strengthen, then that's good for us and the league in general, it'll push us to be better and perhaps we will be able to put up a better fight against Europe's elite.

One of mourinho's assistant coaches is a goalkeeping coach, so I guess he will take over the job. I think his name is silvio lourna?

Sad to see him go and especially to that lot who are heralding this transfer as the second coming of Christ, can't stand any of them. But regarding Cech, I completely understand his reason for moving and even though its Arsenal I have absolutely no bitter feelings, love the man

Y'all forget that petr has a huge part in this , I know he does this for his family but he understands the rivalry with arsenal I'm still disappointed that he wanted to go there. To be honest I don't think it will make a huge difference for them since they didn't sign any central back and good midfielders. It really sucks to see club legends play with rivals

Tired of seeing or best players and legends go to our rivals. Sturridge to Liverpool, Mata to United, Lampard to City and now Cech to Arsenal. You wouldn't see this at any other club so why do we keep doing it ?

Would Barcelona sell players to their rivals ? nope.

Would Tottenham sell their best players to us or Arsenal ? nope.

Would United sell their players to City ? nope.

Would City sell their players to United ? nope.

Would Arsenal sell their players to us or Tottenham ? nope.

Will we sell our players to our rivals ? yep.

I can deal with this happening every so often but it's every season we are letting this happen now.

All of those things have actually happened though Scott.

Yeah they have but let's say with Van Persiefor example he had one year on his contract but Arsenal commanded a big fee and got it. We should doing at least that in this situation. Look at when we tried to Modric from Spurs aswell they held out and didn't sell.

Modric was a key player for them though and they held out to get a huge fee for him (£30m). Cech is a reserve goalkeeper (I know he's still top class) with one year left and anything above £12m will be a surprise in my opinion as we can't hold out.

Not gonna argue with that, I just find it strange that some people think we are the only ones doing this. Arsenal did it every year for about 5 seasons. Figo went from Barcelona to Madrid, it doesnt get bigger than that. I dont like it, but I understand why Cech would want to make this switch.

That is true, but it's happening on a regular basis with us. This will be the 4th season in a row that this has happened.

Would you not agree that each time we have progressed as a squad though? Other than perhaps Sturridge I think each sale has seen us sign the players we needed in the position we needed, or in Lampards case allowed him to leave to be able to change the emphasis on our game play. An ends to a means, as it were. Not so much in this case I suppose.

Arsenal are hardly a good example though. They were selling their best players to rival teams even as they were going year after year without winning anything. It really summed up their unambitious just happy to finish 4th every year attitude.

I can understand Cech wanting the move, just not the club's willingness to sanction a deal that massively benefits Arsenal and not us at all.

I agree, we have been able to improve our squad, but it's always been at a risk of improving others. We have been lucky so far. Sturridge definitely improved Liverpool greatly, but his injury problems is stopping the move from having a negative effect on us. Mata has worked in patches for United but he joined United at the wrong time in their history and their tactics don't suit him. If we had sold him to Arsenal i think the story would have been different. Lampard we could have possibly kept on for another year. I know he was on high wages but i think one more season wouldn't have hurt, he would have done a better job than Mikel and Ramires last season i am sure of that. Lampard's move to City in the early days of the season almost worked against us and at times it looked like it was a mistake letting him go.

Cech going to Arsenal can only go one way in my opinion. It sorts out the position they have desperately been looking to fix since Lehmann left. This is one sale to a rival that i definitely think will have a negative effect on us.

Nah it's just a case of when your team does something like this you feel like the only one ha ha

Plus it wasn't long ago we let Mata go to Man U so I think that's still fresh

Latest going about is he turned down more money in Paris to make arsenal the sole contender. I guess he has fallen for the words of wenger and the arsenal project.

Hardly helping our bargaining position...

Well we don't need the money and don't need to sell so the ball is still in our court.

I don't see the fuss about allowing him to go. Him being in goal for them isn't going to prevent them from conceding some of the sh*te that they do. He deserves to stay in the prem. great club servant. No hard feelings from me.

I can understand Cech's motivation in this. The man has lived in London for 11 years now, he's got wife and kids and he's settled.

It's not his fault the club decided that Courtois is the future and he's clearly too good to sit on a bench. Would it be better if we sold him abroad? Of course it would. But given his service and a top notch attitude throughout all this time, we need to do the right thing by him. It would be painful to watch him at Arse, but if we managed to live through Lampard scoring against us for City, we can deal with Big Pete playing for Gooners.

I'd be more pissed off if we fail to improve the squad by adding genuine quality in other areas (and I don't mean washed up Colombian strikers). Losing Cech sooner or later was a certainty the moment Courtois came back from Atletico.

Him being in goal for them isn't going to prevent them from conceding some of the sh*te that they do.

It totally will though.

It totally will though.

This

Cech is still one of top goalkeepers in the world probably in the top 5. He is better than all of there current goalkeepers put together so it makes them stronger plus if they sign other players aswell they could really challenge us next season. Only way i'd sell to them is if we got a player in return.
