March 11, 201610 yr Hasn't stopped them blowing a few teams away this season, City(twice), Southampton, us and The Bridge, Utd last night............. I know they have been as inconsistent as anyone but Klopp will have the summer to get the squad how he wants it and they WILL be better next season. I really do wish we had got Klopp whilst we had the chance. Seriously buddy calm down! You are massively overrating that club and Klopp. Yes hes a very good manager but Dortmund don't seem to be missing him. There are other managers about and Conte can achieve more with Chelsea than Klopp can with Liverpool. Liverpool don't have a lot of cards to play in the transfer market. If we both go for the same player, we will most likely beat them and not just because of money.
March 11, 201610 yr Author You're right, I don't want us to try and copy Barcelona. I miss our old machine like efficient style so yes we did mess up on that front. Was that Emanalos fault? No. That's ultimately down to Roman. The reason why I think this Emanlao out brigade are pathetic is because even if he did leave, our old identity is not liked by the football purists and a footballing person advising Roman would probably advocate the Barcelona way as the right way anyway. Does anyone care about Bruce Buck or Maria (whatever her surname is)? No they don't, as right now the target is Emanalo. Until the club start charging me a fortune and pocket my ticket money ala Arsenal, I really couldn't give a monkeys what Emanalo's skills are. They certainly cared about what Kenyon did, and Gourlay got his fair amount of comments. Both of those were experienced businessmen/administrators though and were appointed on the basis of a solid track record. It's perhaps too early to judge Marina Granovskaia although her performance last summer (despite certain things) was pitiful. The rumour was the Walter Sabatini from Roma was wanted by Conte although that's gone quiet. Here is an experienced person with a very solid (albeit not perfect) resume. I'd take that over Emenalo, but the issue is that he doesn't seem to be accountable for anything at this club. We're in the lowest point of Roman's reign so it's unrealistic for you to expect people not to question his role. There's not a business in the land that wouldn't. All I know is we need to get back to winning ways so people will conveniently forget about him and praise how good we are run as a club, achieving positive net spend etc. Much like last season. Again, this hasn't come overnight. He's always been a divisive figure because of how he rose to prominence. I don't quite know how people get this notion that you can just walk into a club like this but I imagine it isn't through experience of the workplace, but through the Harry Potter books where an owl delivers letters to your door telling you that you've been accepted to a prestigious establishment. Is there a group of people who believe Michael Emenalo was living under the stairs in some house in Tuscon when Avram Grant turned up one day on his bike and took little Mikey to London....'you're a Technical Director Mikey'
March 11, 201610 yr Everything I've read and heard about him sounds encouraging. His passion, his commitment, that edge that we need in a coach in my opinion, the things he demands of players, his tactical flexibility.....it ticks a lot of boxes. Personnel-wise, there are a few players I would retain under all costs but anyone else is up for grabs but that's easy for me to say. If the coach looks at someone like Matic and thinks he can use him and get him firing again then I will back him. I just want the club to back the guy. Reading that article makes me excited for the future though. Conte does seem to have that hunger and that spring in his step that Jose had first time around. I'm glad he is bringing alot of his own staff in, as it is a clear sign to the players that the club want him here long term (whatever that is lol). I would definitely offload oscar, as I don't think he has shown enough improvement in his 4 years here, and I'm hoping we play 433, which would mean we won't necessarily need him. It is exciting times, I don't think the club is in disarray, we have just been part of a truly great generation of chelsea sides, and we will hopefully have some new heroes over the next decade. Certainly beats being a Newcastle fan!

He endorsed the sacking Wilkins, our season fell apart as a result and he endorsed the sacking Carlo for coming second. Now you can expect anger from that. Lets turn to Emanalo. Our manager causes ,major beef on day 1, half the squad fall out with him, we keep losing, the football is boring, he keeps making a fool of himself and the club making excuses and we end up in a relegation battle mid season. Now the club couldve hid behind a generic statement but Emanalo went on air to explain why we had to part with Jose. He was very clear that the relationship between him and the players nevermind the medical staff broke down beyond repair. So after the decency to come on air you still get some belligerent fans saying how he disrespected them and Jose through his interview. Clearly looking for a scapegoat there. What is this Roma guys resume? What spectacular business has he done? Did he bring in two spanish stars to help the manager win the league? Did he bring in £50m for a good centre back? Please I would like to know what he has done at board level to make him a standout candidate who can improve this club. How do you know he just walked into the club? Obviously like anything, if you have the right connections you get better opportunity, but he must have some qualities which is why Roman trusts him. We don't know what goes on behind closed doors and Roman is no fool. The guy obviously did something right to get where he is.

That's an odd thing to ask 'has he ever sold a defender for a lot of money'? I mean that's so specific that there's no way he..... oh wait, Marquinhos. Bought him for €3 million, sold him to PSG for €30 million. That's a 1000% profit isn't it compared to the doubling of the money that happened in the Luiz deal. If you want an instance where he just doubled his money on a defender then you'd have to use Benatia as an example, bought for about €13 million and sold to Bayern for around €26 million. And in a summer where we're looking for a player like Nainngolen, why not consider the guy who signed the actual Nainngolen? Then there's the fact he won director of the year a couple of seasons back and apparently Conte wants him which is the most important thing in my opinion. Here we have a guy with a good track record who is wanted by our presumptive coach. Edited March 11, 201610 yr by ShedEnder91
March 11, 201610 yr The quality of the squad has definitely gotten worse if you compare a few seasons back we had De Bruyne Mata Felipe Luis Cech aswell as a few others, Top class players that could have really helped us, Also clearly missing out on the leadership in the team JT is the only leader we have and looks to be leaving, last season we had Drogba who as we know was a real leader and was loved in the dressing room and by the fans no matter if he wasn't the same player.

He does have some good credentials from what you listed that cannot be denied. But does it stand out better than Emanalos track record? I don't think so because £50m for luiz has to be the most amazing deal in football. If he was to replace Emanalo I wouldn't care one bit. The most important cog is the manager and the players he's meant to get the best out of. This new guy can come in, Conte can say he wants at least one of Pogba, Griezman or Aubemeyang. We can easily fail to sign a single one due to a number of factors including, price, the player not wanting to leave or choosing a better club like Barca or Bayern. Do you stand for Conte acting like a spoilt brat, causing wars inside the club and then accusing this new sporting director for not backing him in the market? Also since when were there awards for director of the year? I would love to see this list over the years. Edited March 11, 201610 yr by KonaKai Blue

But does it stand out better than Emanalos track record? I don't think so because £50m for luiz has to be the most amazing deal in football. So signing a player for £24 million (which included Matic valued at £3 million but whom we reacquired for just £21 million) and selling him for 'double' is better than signing Marquinhos for £3 million and selling him for ten times that? O...........k. If he was to replace Emanalo I wouldn't care one bit. The most important cog is the manager and the players he's meant to get the best out of. This new guy can come in, Conte can say he wants at least one of Pogba, Griezman or Aubemeyang. Do you stand for Conte acting like a spoilt brat, causing wars inside the club and then accusing this new sporting director for not backing him in the market? Do you know the one thing Jose didn't do in all that business? He didn't blame the club, he didn't criticise the board and he didn't call out the owner. He blamed everyone else, to varying degrees of accuracy, for what happened. That's surprising to me. As it is I think he was a man under immense pressure and he wasn't supported by the club enough. I don't know what type of reaction you'll get from an obsessive winner like Jose but I imagine it wouldn't be pretty. Rather than abuse or criticise a man who has an obscenely good track record for his failings, some may question why we didn't put that man (and the club) in the best position to succeed. I pray we do that with Conte. Also since when were there awards for director of the year? I would love to see this list over the years. Apparently it's something in Serie A.
March 12, 201610 yr David luiz's transfer was actually €50m not pounds, as it was reported at the time. http://weaintgotnohistory.sbnation.com/2015/1/12/7527747/chelsea-financial-accounts-ffp When you factor in we also spent £18m net on matic who was part of the Luiz deal to begin with, we didnt make any actual profit from the Luiz deal, but we got a more developed matic, plus 2 and half seasons of David Luiz. I think if we had developed into a better possession side, Luiz would've been a very valuable player for us, as he showed he is for psg. He has the sort of leadership qualities, and fight that the squad could really have done with, but he gets a hard time of it in England, as he isn't the best defender, but then again neither is stones.

Absolutely agree (honestly not following you around nodding yes to everything) about Luiz. Didn't particularly like the guy as a player but he's always prepared to take responsibility for things in a match. The problem is he does that too much sometimes, so you get things like the World Cup match against Germany where he's rushing out into midfield to make tackles leaving huge gaps behind him. But the guy would also step up in big moments during games, like in the Europa League for us. That's what we're lacking but at the time it was a hard deal to turn down.
March 12, 201610 yr I think Roman's desire was that Chelsea would be one of Europe's elite clubs and would stay there. I think he was well on the way to achieving that with the CL win in 2012, the sequence of Premier League titles and the Europa League win in 2013 but looking back it's clear that the squad has been showing signs of wear and tear for about 5 years and we haven't done enough to keep it fresh or to keep up with changing approaches to how the top sides play the game. So Roman needs to ask himself if he has the appetite to go for the big time once again. Seems to me he loves the club, the game and being an owner. He's 49 so he could conceivably own Chelsea for another 25 years or maybe even longer and on what we have seen over the last 10 years it's pretty clear that he enjoys winning a lot more than losing. So I do expect Chelsea to try to compete for the best talent this summer, how successful we will be is difficult to foresee. Over the last decade a few more clubs have entered the elite stage, City and PSG come to mind. So we've got to think where do Chelsea sit in the pecking order of elite clubs. Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern, PSG, Chelsea, Juventus, Man City, Man Utd (with Mourinho?) and how does Tottenham reaching the CL affect competition for players who will come to England but want to be in London? It's not going to be easy but I feel we really need to find a manager with a clear vision for the type of team we will be and the style we will play and we all need to get behind that vision. I've no idea how Conte would do in the Premier League but I've a gut feeling that Simeone may be better suited for management in England and the robust nature of the game here.
March 12, 201610 yr I think you're panicking too much. We need an overhaul yes but look at every other team around you in the league. None are showing any signs that they are a level above us: I'm panicking even more after watching that tonight. Too many players just not good enough and when things go as badly as they have this week, you are yet again reminded of some of the quality we have let go, just to achieve short-term goals, and it is so f**king frustrating. Just hope Palace or West Ham win the FA Cup now - please not Everton or the gooners, this season has been bad enough without that adding to it.
March 12, 201610 yr We need to rediscover the art of attacking and scoring ... you simply can't win games consistently if you have so few clear cut chances on goal. Complete overall of the attacking midfielders and strikers, and maybe the formation and tactics need to change to support more emphasis on natural width, good crosses, attempts on goal and general attack and bodies in the box.
