Well we weren't good enough last year (a season when we won the league) either so it's not a massive surprise to me given our season.

Whether it has happened "organically" or otherwise we are just not the team of 5-10 years ago and when you face a better side, you often lose.

Of all the things to worry about I don't think their fans giving it the "ole's" is one of them- I wouldn't lose too much sleep over that if I were you ;-)

Last night wasn't a surprise to anyone I think, but the thing is that after last year shouldn't we have tried to become a better team? Maybe buy better players, look to retain the title and progress further in Europe?

No we're not the team of 5-10 years ago, and in 5-10 years we might be saying that again. But how have we reached that position and how do we maybe reach those heights again?

There's an article in the Guardian today that sums up Chelsea's current predicament quite accurately, and echoes exactly what I was thinking last night.

£16m spent on Filipe Luis (although admittedly most of this was recouped) followed by £15m on Rahman, who apparently can't be trusted to play in the big games, therefore we play a 20 year old Brazilian forward at left back.

In the champions league last 16.

All the while, Ryan Bertrand is probably one of the premier league's best in that position, and is probably England's 1st choice going into Euro 2016.

I didn't get the feeling that he was doing a good job as a LB. I thought he was one of our too many weak links.

Kennedy did a good job.  Just him and Diego actually showed showed intent to win.  Mikel on the other hand was terrible - the second goal could have been easily avoided, the ball was a 50-50, he didn't necessary have to dive in but at least just ensure the through pass wasn't made.  A performance without heart and desire from the whole team - except for Costa, Pedro, Ivanovic and Kennedy.  The rest were sooo bad, and as much as i like Hazard - if he's heart is not with Chelsea then he may well and truly f8ck off to wherever he wants to go.

I hope we don't qualify for Europa league!  We need a year of fresh players, ones that want to play to play the premier league only and rebuild from there without the disturbances of Thursday night football.  If we do qualify for Europa - then please really use that tournament wisely to develop the younger players with the prospect of incorporating them into the first team squad when they are ready!

I don't even know if some players are not good enough or the tactics/formation/shape whatever doesn't suit them anymore.

If you look over to Leicester you have to say it can't be down to the players qualities. I at least think we downgrade our players too much.

Today a friend of mine who isnt a chelsea fan said how good Willian was and that he was like a level above others. For sure fans see certain games with other eyes than neutrals.

Ps:Also think we misused Mikel over years. In the 2005 U20 World Cup, he was runner-up to none other than Lionel Messi in the Player of the Tournament award. Jose converted him to an overly defensive midfielder but i guess i'm not under the most popular comments with this.

Relegation wouldn't have mattered. It would have been a brilliant opportunity to shift out all those who didn't want to play for the club. Besides, we haven't won the Championship before.

Wow, the 1st Division trophy under a different name and shape.  Fantastic.

Just as an aside, BT's web page says

"The two fixtures, which will also be shown live on BT Sport Showcase on Freeview channel 59, are just two of 12 UEFA Champions League and 14 UEFA Europa League games BT Sport will be making free-to-air this season.

Every British team involved in continental combat – Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham – will feature at least once on BT Sport Showcase during the season."

Did any of our CL matches actually get shown on Freeview?  I didn't notice one, if it did.

Are you f**king serious?!

...

I realise that being negative (honest and truthful) gets you banned on here, but where are all the people who were saying how things were going to turn for the better all that time ago? Getting rid of Jose has done nothing. Well done Roman, well done Chelsea.

...

The only plus point from this season has been Traore, and Hiddink seems intent on stifling his development along with Kenedy and Loftus-Cheek.

...

There must be two clubs in the Premier League named Chelsea because we sure haven't been watching the same club the last three months.

One more positive I've thought of is that there are many that go to the bridge these days that take success and being in the cl for granted...perhaps a period of enforced abstinence will increase their hunger, as well as the club's

Brilliant. Thanks for reminding us.

And appreciate how lucky we've been these past 20 or so years...
