I have a very bad feeling about hooliganism at Russia 2018. Expect a lot of racial abuse, intimidation of visiting fans, and chaos that is too overwhelming for the police to control. I bet the hooligans can't wait.

The technique was a lot harder though. Modric is twice the player Payet is anyway.

Bit unfair to use that as a criterion for judging the quality of a goal considering Modric doesn't have a weaker foot.

Seeing the replay I think you're being a bit harsh on the keeper. There was a huge crowd of players in front of him, Modric is in a terrible position, receiving a poor pass, the ball bounces and goes right into the corner.

 

The technique to hit that so well on the volley is unquestionably superior. That was a harder goal to score than Payet's.

I also think Modric's goal was just hit and hope, Payet actually went for the top corner.
