Spuds did a great job spunking the Bale cash on dead beats:-

Soldado - Cost £25.5m, sold £13.6m

Paulinho - Cost £16.8m, sold £11.9m

Capoue - Cost £9.4m, sold £7.5m

Chiriches - Cost £8.1m, sold £6m

Cracking bit of business over two seasons.

This is what makes me laugh. They moan about their squad and say they can't compete financially. Is it other teams fault they wasted the Gareth Bale money? Just makes me laugh that they act so hard done by, maybe they should look to get a better scouting network.

Tragic news. A plane carrying players and staff of Brazilian club Chapecoense has crashed. They were traveling to the Copa Sudamericana final (CONMEBOL equivalent of Europa League).

That is awful, tragic news

Chapecoense making the final of the Copa Sudamericana (equivalent of Europa League) was a fairy tale. Compared to the other clubs in Brasileiro Série A (the Brazilian top tier), they are a small club who were only promoted to the top tier in 2013, the first time since 1979. As recently as 2009 they played in the 4th tier.

On YouTube there are videos of their semifinal victory and the celebration in the changing room afterward. It's heartbreaking.

For La Liga fans - Cleber Santana, formerly of Atletico Madrid and Mallorca, is among the fatalities.

Very sad news! Absolute tragedy!

A very classy gesture by Atletico Nacional who requested that Chapecoense be crowned the winners of the Copa Sudamericana.

This exact plane was used by the Argentinian national team to travel to their World Cup qualifying game against Brazil last month

Fortunately there is no indication of criminal cause. The weather was very bad.

I've just read up about it.

I had heard of Chapecoense and knew they were punching well above their weight in Brazil's Serie A, so I was absolutely gobsmacked when I read about it on Reddit.

It does make me contemplate how I would feel if Chelsea's first team went through the same thing. That's not a pleasant thought and so I can only imagine how their fans must feel.

I would like to think that as a group, they would have wanted us all to honour their memories by continuing to support the game and our sides.

As a mark of remembrance and respect, I've changed my flair to their black club crest and will keep it for the next month.

RIP.

Seeing the players celebrate their semi final win is heartbreaking to watch! I just feel for everyone involved in the club whether you're an owner, player, coach or just a passionate supporter of the club.

It certainly puts life into perspective. It's comforting to see that the whole footballing fraternity come together to pay their respects and show their support for the club and those lost to the crash.

A sixth survivor, a journalist traveling with the team, has been named by the Guardian. A 7th survived the crash but died in the hospital from his injuries. It's reasonable to assume the remaining survivors have some pretty devastating injuries.

When you see the debris, it's amazing that anyone survived the impact let alone 7.

If they had lost the semifinal they would still be alive. Chilling.

One of the players who died found out that he was going to become a first time father last week. There is a video of him and some teammates celebrating the news.

Big move by PSG, they will donate 40m to the Brazilian club Chapecoense .

PSG have confirmed that they did not make this offer.

What kind of sick f**ker makes up this stuff? It's mental torture for the grieving fans to hear that their club might be financially saved and then learning that it's not true; and PSG now look selfish despite the fact that they've done no differently than every other European club.

The media is also culpable in reporting this without verifying it with PSG.

so scary that a plane can come down from just an electrical fault

What's even more scary is 5 people can survive that whilst the other 76 do not. If i survived a plane crash of that sort,  I'd feel sick to my stomach for having luck of that sort whilst other people didn't, I'd be guilty for the rest of my life, I'd rather go upstairs along with the other people on board than survive if i'm honest, Really sad stuff.

yes i can imagine the survivors being affected by this, apparently the pilot jettisoned the fuel on the way down, probably the only reason any survived

Whilst i agree that is sick, I didn't bat an eyelid thinking that was a made up report, That's the least you can do in this spot. I can understand not helping a side facing liquidation or other financial difficulties as it sets a bad precedent and then all clubs in financial trouble will ask you for money but this is a real one off scenario. If the City hierarchy don't donate a good chunk or do some sort of initiative to help i'd be disgusted.

Man United really should do something as they have been in Chapecoense's situation.
