Now that is a loss of a genuine world class player...meanwhile some overrated scouser has retired/slipped up for good

If Wales are lucky he might just return for their next WC qualifier in March. If not, they can kiss goodbye to any hopes they had of qualifying. I expect Chris Coleman is saying his prayers as we speak!

Dislike him all you want but Gerrard was a brilliant footballer, that's indisputable.

The more an opposition player is disliked the more you know how highly he was rated(Roy Keane,Luis Suarez etc).

Hmm I think Suarez was intensely disliked for other things than that he was rated highly.  And Stevie-Me was disliked I think as well because of the hypocrisy shown by the media who thought the sun shone out of his diving arse.  And the fact that he thumped a dj yet was fawned over.

Incredible how pathetic the media is, The guy never won a league title, Choked (slipped) in big games, Did f-ck all for England and is being hailed as some 'God', Sure he fluked a CL win, Was a good player but the praise is not deserved, If Ryan Bertrand retired tomorrow, Would they give him the same press coverage? He's done just as much as Gerrard in the game.

Slippy G.

The greatest loser in history.

Everyone on here has the same number of PL titles as Gerrard, Costel Pantilimon has more PL medals than him.

In the highly unthinkable and unlikely situation the scum ever win a EPL title it will be a little bit of consolation to us that somewhere near a burt out Vectra Stevie G will be crying his eyes out.

As much as I enjoy taking the piss out of Gerrard, and as much as the general media fawning he has received over his career has annoyed me, I can't agree with this. He was utterly phenomenal in that final, and considering how poor that Liverpool side were overall, how brilliant the AC Milan side were, as well as the odds they were up against at 3-0 down, no one can take that away from him. Certainly not a loser...

Aye and I even have two winners medals from my bowling league wins so I have more league winners medals than he has (just not in football)

I think he was phenomenal for abit but he didn't carry the entire game imo. Also didn't them having to make a sub push Gerrard up the pitch or am I wrong?

I still reckon if Crespo hadn't gone off Milan would have put 4-6 past them.

Hollywood passes into row Z, losing his head in big games, title winning back-passes and less premier league winners medals than Asier Del Horno.

I'll miss you Stevie, la.

I'll be kind to them. I think the number of PL medals does not equate with greatness. If that's the case, then other bums will be in discussion for the great ones, too.

I rate both of them over Gerrard...he was good, not as great as people make out...he benefitted from being liverpool'S best player in one of their weakest periods of their history...but you could argue Liverpool only challenged for the title when Torres and Suarez were in their pomp...

everyone goes on about cl win of 2005...of course he was huge for them (including big dive in the final)...2006 fa cup final was big too...but while people remember games he made a difference, they conveniently forget the many in which he did not...not just for Liverpool, but for England too

Liverpool played for nine minutes in that final, remarkably scoring three goals and hung on for dear life..Gerrard got one, dived for a pen to get another...you could argue dudek was at least just as influential...made amazing saves during the game and in the penalty shoot out, yet no-one suggests he's the best keeper that ever walked the planet
