One argument put forward by the Gerrard love in is that he didn't win as much cos he played in a weakened Liverpool side, yet at the same time they'll say he won cl, fa cup etc on his own...

even if that were true, which it clearly isn't, I also base my opinion on him for what he did in an England shirt and I can't remember many games where he made a difference...the 5-1 v Germany was one, but most of the time he was sh*t or just anonymous

To be fair, Lampard never did much in an England shirt either. Or Terry. Or any of them.

Very true. Can't really think of an England player since Gazza who has consistently performed well and can be proud of himself. Maybe Ashley Cole being the exception. Oh and David Beckham took one good free-kick to save our arses!

Terry had many good games for England...lamps not so much...but you mis the point...if Gerrard was as amazing as scouseland and the media want us to believe (the kind of praise lamps and JT have never had) then he would have done more for England etc

People told me at Liverpool, there was some guys you could not touch, but I touched them. That is why it was complicated for me," said Diouf.

More brilliant stuff from Diouf:

Gerrard's comment did come up during Diouf's time on air, with the ex-Bolton, Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers striker saying: "When I arrived I showed him he was nothing at all. He was nothing at all.

"I asked him to tell me in which big competition, Euros or World Cup, people think about him."

Apologies if this has already been posted. From the Daily Telegraph and it lists its top 20 footballers from the U.K.

Some interesting selections and omissions. I appreciate it's subjective but I would certainly have Lampard in there. Interesting that Jimmy Johnstone has been picked and not Jim Baxter. Baxter was a much better player but then I am biased to the blue half of Glasgow. Difficult to argue with the number one choice.

Always subjective lists like these, a few of the players are before my time so can't really comment on those. Not sure though how Bale, Gerrard and Barnes could be in a top 20  yet no place for Gazza.
