Denis Law outjumps Bobby Moore to score with a header for Scotland during their 4-3 defeat against England at Hampden in 1966

Sad news yesterday with Denis Law revealing he is in the early stages suffering from Dementia. Here he out jumps Bobby Moore, when  playing for Scotland during their 4-3 defeat to England at Hampden in 1966.

Very sad news about Denis suffering the early stages of Dementia. One of the great strikers. I caught the tail-end of his career and it was good to see him play in the World Cup of 1974 at the end of his career. Played in that great Scotland team of 1967 which beat England 3-2 at Wembley. Found this yesterday on one of the Rangers pages on Facebook. A great player with excellent choice of team in Scotland. I am of course biased!

Remember Denis Law being the summariser on bbc radio 2 in the late 1970s

This was when the late, great, Peter Jones (above) was the main match commentator.

HEADING FOR VICTORY: Bishop Auckland's Seamus O'Connell heads at goal during an FA Amateur Cup second round win against Tooting and Mitcham in January 1958

Bishop Auckland's Seamus O'Connell heads at goal during an FA Amateur Cup second round win against Tooting and Mitcham in January 1958.

He played for us during our 1954/55 Championship Winning Season (as an amateur) and he also played for Bishop Auckland in their 1955 Amateur Cup Final win over Hendon in front of 100,000 spectators at Wembley!

Jim Montgomery's still amazing save from Peter Lorimer in the 1973 FA Cup Final.

Indeed, a great save. I was invited to a neighbour's house to watch the game. First FA Cup final I watched on a colour telly. It was a few years later when my parents bought a colour television.

On this day in 1989. Mo Johnston, Ian Ferguson and Stuart Munro going on to the pitch at Parkhead.

@Scott Yes,  the same game. It's ages since I've watched highlights of that match. A couple of bad misses by Johnston. Nervous as it was his first game at Parkhead whilst playing for the 'Gers. Great to see Ray Wilkins playing. I had that Rangers shirt. Goodness knows what happened to it. Here's to a Rangers win on Sunday.

33 Years ago today. One of Ray's finest.

Rangers were actually leading 5-1 just after the hour mark in that game! It ended 5-1.

I remember a couple of Celtic supporting work colleagues telling me shortly afterwards they actually feared what the final score would be in that match !!

Seeing all these England v Scotland games, they really were as a kid to look forward on the TV like the cup final, you really did get into the day sat in front of the TV, how the kids of today have missed out, now a days they sit and watch the bollox on sky sports news or listen to prat’s talk nonsense about football

Agreed. It was a genuine occasion and for me as a youngster, the talk in school and with my mates was about nothing else.

I actually enjoy watching the repeats of ‘The Big Match’ on ITV 4 and BT Sport, rather than watch most games not involving us.

The ‘Big Match Revisited’  being shown has enabled me to see full highlights of Chelsea games from the past for the first time.

Seriously!

Up here in Scotland back then, we saw partial highlights of a Division 1 game and only saw the goals ( if that at times ) of the other English games broadcast on ITV. This was in the Scottish Football Programme called ‘Scotsport’.

Wilkins, Durrant and Ferguson. Can't work out who the other player is. After Ray scored that goal in the 5-1 victory over Celtic on 27 August 1988.
