I think Walter Smith was also assistant to Ferguson, when he was temporarily in charge of Scotland. After the death of  Jock Stein. Nov 1985 until the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.

He was. Then went to Ibrox. I remember the night Jock Stein died. A tense game between Wales and Scotland and then the news broke about Stein's death. A great manager.

Jock Wallace has the unique distinction of being the only player ever to play in the English, Welsh and Scottish Cups in the same season !
This was during the 1966–67 season, where he played in F.A.
and the Welsh Cup for Hereford United and in the Scottish Cup,when he had moved to Berwick Rangers.

Boyne:Agreed a great manager indeed.

Johan Neeskens. Some player.
He won the European Cup with Ajax in 1971, 1972, 1973. And won the European Cup Winners Cup with Barcelona in 1979. A twice runner up in the World Cup Finals of 1974 and 1978.
He had scored in 1974 World Cup Final.

I've always liked him much more than Cruijff (whom I never liked at all actually).

The 1974 World Cup was the first one I watched  aged 7. It got a big build up here in Scotland as Scotland had qualified.

The Dutch were the most talked about and unexpected team.  Mind you Ajax and Feyenoord had won the European Cup from 1970-73 so there was a hint there.

The Berlin Derby. Hertha Berlin v Union Berlin in the Olympic Stadium.

This season's Vitesse Arnhem Airborne shirt. A fine tribute as we approach the anniversary of Operation Market Garden. A picture of the John Frost Bridge on the shirt.

Haven't bought a football shirt in years and if I did it would be Chelsea or Rangers but am tempted to buy this. Even if there is more than a resemblance to the shirt worn by the pikeys!

David Webb playing for Derby  He played 26 games, scoring 1 goal for them. Dec 78 to end of 1979/80 season.
I’d forgotten he’d played for Derby!

Sorry, but  someone has to explain that Rainer Bonhof photo. There are two players of opposite teams who look injured, with Bonhof dribbling past them?  Or are they on warmups?

i absolutely loved watching him play in the 70s.
