Ibrox Park, 1902.  Scotland v England International.

The first photo  was taken before the terrible collapse of the wooden terracing.

25 people were tragically killed and 517 injured .

Under 'Crum bags six headline'   Stanley Matthews was playing for Morton v St Mirren.

The old Wembley being demolished. Had some bad days there e.g. the 1975 game between England and Scotland and the 1994 FA Cup Final. Outweighed though by great days. The 1986 Full Members Cup Final and the 1997 FA Cup Final spring to mind.

European Cup in 1989. I wonder why Ruud is wearing sunglasses. Too much champagne?

Looks like Van Basten is still wearing his match shirt ! 

The champagne must have had some effect !!

Possibly a sponsorship deal worth 'a few bob' from say Ray Ban, or some other sunglasses manufacturer ?

Yes, could well be a sponsorship deal. That team which won the European Cup in 1989 was brilliant. Included one of the finest back fours of all time and two future Chelsea managers. And a future Chelsea player in the opposition.

A bit different from a couple of weeks later when England played Scotland. The crossbars didn't stand a chance!

53 years ago Scotland beat England 3-2 at Wembley. Eddie and Slim Jim standing away from the rest of the team. Had they done something wrong?!

Slightly off topic but Goodison Park was the only ground in England with 2 tiers in all four stands!
