bjd
Not surprised about Drogs, Stevens and Ronaldo, but f**king Fabregas ? Please! Ronaldo will win it and the only surprise is that the FA havent nominated Henry and Giggs too. EDITED - They have nominated Giggs! Scholes is the other one too. Surprised Roy Keane isnt there. Fansince65
I would imagine that is purely down to his time out injured, BTW, has ANY keeper ever won this ? I think Bert Trautman (Man City keeper in the 50's) won the writers player of the year once.
loz
Shilton and jenings both won it. Surprised Schmiechel didn't. Farcical, but not surprising, that Gerrard and Fabregas have been nominated but Essien hasn't.
The Brit
I'm not saying lamps has been at his best this season, but how on earth does gerrard get nominated? what has he done this year? lamps is considered to not have had a great year and yet he has 21 goals, gerrard has played his part in another average liverpool season outside the champs league and has been sh*te for england...but then this is voted for by the players so what do we know I have always thought players are the ultimate tabloid readers and just vote for the players that get the headlines Oh Ronaldo will win by a mile...plays for man u not chelsea

yogic
Oh Ronaldo will win by a mile...plays for man u not chelsea Ronaldo deserves it - not because he plays for manu, but because he has been fantastic this season - As has Drogba - but i think Ronaldo nicks it as he assists almost all Manu goals. Surprised Essien's name is not up there. I would have put him in, instead of Fabregas. Think Carvalho needs some recognition as well.
Lofty
Not surprised about Drogs, Stevens and Ronaldo, but f*****g Fabregas ?Please! Well he did score at the weekend didn't he. And that's wow, one goal he's scored in the Premier league all season. It's even worse than Terry 'enry winning last season's award despite the Arse winning sweet F.A. no pun intended, but feel free to read it as you like. SydneyChelsea
I think player of the season should be Rio Ferdinand, if Chelsea win the title.

Lofty
Even JT's backing Ronaldo. From BBC sport: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/6561341.stm Ronaldo best in world, says Terry John Terry has hailed Cristiano Ronaldo as the best player in the world after his Professional Footballers' Association double award nomination. The Manchester United winger is up for both young player and player of the year, and the Chelsea and England captain says he is a huge fan of his. "I could watch United just to watch him. He does things no-one else in the world doing at the minute," he said. "He's the best in the world. At his best, not many people can stop him." As well as his skill, Terry said he admired the Portuguese's personality for the way he handled the backlash against him after his team put England out of the World Cup last summer. "It was understandable after knocking us out of the World Cup, but he has done all his talking on the pitch," said Terry. Ronaldo's team-mates Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes are also nominated for the main award, as is Terry's colleague Didier Drogba, along with Liverpool's Steven Gerrard and Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas. Wayne Rooney, Ronaldo and Fabregas are also up for the young player award, along with Tottenham's Aaron Lennon, Kevin Doyle of Reading and Manchester City's Micah Richards. The voting, which takes place among the country's players, has already been completed, with the results to be announced on 22 April. Striker Drogba has scored 30 goals this season and has helped Chelsea maintain their challenge for a historic Quadruple. He has already helped Chelsea win the Carling Cup and they are still in the hunt for the Premiership, FA Cup and Champions League. "Didier has, arguably, been Chelsea's best and most consistent performer this season - no mean achievement when he is playing alongside so many top-class players at Stamford Bridge," said PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor. He echoed Terry's opinion on Ronaldo, 22, who has scored 21 goals for Manchester United this season. "Cristiano is the most exciting player in the country at the moment - the quickness of his feet and the skills he possesses make you think, at times, that he is from another planet," added Taylor. Manchester United are chasing another Treble and are vying for the league title and FA Cup with Chelsea, while the clubs could also meet in the Champions League final. Midfielders Scholes, 32, and Giggs, 33, have also been influential players for United during the current campaign. Arsenal have struggled this season but Fabregas, 19, has continued to improve. Gerrard won the award in 2006 and has had another influential season for Liverpool as he tries to lead the Anfield side to another Champions League success. g3.7
gerrard and fabregas are token nods to "the big four". fabregas has cooled off after a great start- arguably gilberto has been their best player anyway. carragher probably a better choice for liverpool- gerrard hasn't really done anything of note this season- many better choices than him. my 6 candidates would all be from us and united- a bit sad that, but it's fair- we're both far better than anyone else. I'd have gone with ronaldo, scholes and vidic for them, with drogba, essien and carvalho for us. I also think there should an award for breakthrough/newcomer of the season... Jimbo
I think these awards were decided (the players voted) in January. That is Why Giggs and Fabgregash are in there. I have no idea why Gerrard is in there. Players voting for their mates I suppose. Very dissapointed Essien did not get a mention. Ronaldo should win it in my opinion. He is having the sort of season Robben should be having.
