Rangers Match Day Thread 2021-2022

Not the best timing if Gerrard does go to Villa. No doubt his backroom guys will leave with him. Rumours floating around about Derek McInnes (possibly with Barry Ferguson) until the end of the season.

Doesn't sound great to me......

Agree, not the best timing if he goes. Strange if does go to Villa especially if he wants European football. I can't remember the last time Villa qualified for a European competition. Perhaps going to a club down south and not one in the relegation area i.e. Newcastle is to get a bit of experience of managing in England before taking over from Klopp. But then how long will Klopp stay at Liverpool. Hopefully things will become clearer in the next day or so.

Always felt a bit torn/uncomfortable having gerrard as manager…did a good, albeit incomplete job, but his Liverpool connection and his stevie me attitude made me always feel a little disconnected to him…now he’s shown himself for what he is…only difference between him joining Villa and not joining Chelsea as a player, is the lack of threats on the domestic front.

All that chat about being connected to Rangers and the city etc was bollox.
walking out on Rangers with a chance to win another title for a club that will struggle to finish in the top 6 in the pl for the foreseeable is a strange career move.

Great result for Rangers tonight. Got the result they needed but could have scored more. Wonderful assis for Alfie's second goal. Both Morelos and Aribo could have had hat-tricks. A few scary moments at the end of the match and Shagger made a great double save. Shirley had a good game in central defence.

Have qualified for the knockout stages of the Europa League unlike a team from the East End of Glasgow.

Another great result for Rangers.

Gio congratulated by Super Ally with Kris Boyd about to join in the celebrations.

Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League. Tough game.

I honestly think it could be a 50/50 game. If you manage to stop Haaland you've got a decent chance of going through. Good luck!

By the way, are Helander and Balogun long-term absentees?

Will be a great test for Rangers and to see how they've progressed. Agree, stopping Haaland will make a difference. Morelos and Sakala will give their defence something to think about. Ibrox will be buzzing. Would love to go to the game but tickets will be like gold dust unless I can pinch from one of my cousins.

Helander could be back in January and here's an update on other injuries including to Balogun.

I really like what van Bronckhorst is doing. Especially now when he's got a nearly fully fit squad, no team can afford to underestimate Rangers.

Agree, Gio has got off to a great start. Having spent a while there as a player he understands the ethos of the club. Has some great players. Aribo is an outstanding player.

The comments yesterday from Alan McGregor about ‘Sporting Integrity being so important in Scottish Football and the away game on 2nd Jan postponement!

Happy New Year, Boyne. Hope Rangers fans have lots to celebrate in 2022.

@carrickblue Happy New Year. Here's to a great year for Rangers. Did you see the programme about Walter Smith on 30 December? Worth watching. It's on the BBC iplayer.

You're welcome. Agree, Walter was a gentleman. Understood the Rangers ethos. Some lovely tributes to him, especially from Alex Ferguson. Fergie obviously thought the world of Walter.

A shame that Nathan Patterson has left Rangers and it will be interesting to see how he fares at Everton. He's a great full-back and it was going to be difficult to displace Tavernier. Hopefully he will be Scotland's first choice right-back for many years to come.

Great words from Nathan.

Great message from Jermain Defoe. Yet another player who understands what it means to play for and support Rangers.

Only saw the first half of the game at Ross County. Unusual for McGregor to make mistakes but everyone has bad days at work. A win would have been nice but we move on.

Big game tonight. Will watch it but may have the sound off. Depends on who the pundits are commentating during the match. I can't listen to the cack that Andy Walker comes out with.

As the late, great Jock Wallace said: "We've got the battle fever on."
