Just curious: are there any infos out there that Tuchel actually wanted Lukaku? For such an expensive player he was dropped almost asap and not a lot of adjustments were tried to make him work - that would be quite some stance from a coach that's been at the club for six months only (CL win, top4 finsish plus cup final..but still). I read, but that's only hearsay, that Marina and Chech were leaving much earlier than anticipated and that it's been mostly about their stance re getting Lukaku and Wernder out asap which they were very much opposed to. Todd sided with TT (probably since at leat Marina wasn't going to stay longterm anyway) and Lukaku was almost given away for free at the very first moment. Also quite some hardball Tuchel would be playing here if he really wanted Romelu in the first place.

He wanted a target man he said it openly. Lukaku made over 40 appearances under Tuchel despite being injured and making the stupid interview during the season. There is no doubt in my mind that Tuchel was at first very happy to have Lukaku.

But wanting a target man is a bit different than wanting Lukaku, no? Don't want to nitpick here but I don't really believe he was actively pushing for Lukaku. Certainly he wouldn't say no either since the market for #9 is slim and our forward line at that time on the up but far from great. But you are right of course, Rom played much more than I thought he did.

Well it's known that he wanted Haaland first and foremost. Lukaku became the semi-panic buy but Tuchel wanted that tactical option of having someone that can play with his back on the goal. I think as the season was going the ego of Lukaku kicked in and Tuchel couldn't work with him but the idea was there as we saw him dominating the match against Arsenal.

Was awful, and I mean awful against Napoli.

Can't have been doing much "screening" of the defence if you get pumped 6-1 at home (and that after leading 1-0 until 18th minute) !!!

Has looked very average every time i have seen him

Because he is incredibly, incredibly average.

Bloke threw a fit in August because he knew he'd never get an opportunity like this. Hope he was simply a panic/Tuchel option and we stay clear.
