Just heard on Sky that Marina wanted to buy Anthony two years ago at £15m after being offered him by Ajax. The higher ups at Chelsea turned her down. Man Utd just paid £85m for him two years later.
September 1, 20223 yr Kinda sad lot of people gave Marina sh*t while she was here. One summer without her and it clearly shows how important she was for transfer negotiations.

Conveniently ignoring the fact that we got rejected by Haaland, and instead of working with & developing Tammy the manager told her to sign Lukaku. He is repeating the same mistakes this summer again.

I feel it is very unlikely we make top 4 and accept this is a season of huge transition we came in to without a much needed director of football. Todd and Co will have a steep learning curve but at least they are showing genuine interest and putting their money where their mouths are.

September 1, 20223 yr The last good window we had was 2014, 8 years ago. Let's not pretend that things have been bad this year because we no longer have Marina. 2020 was probably the closest we have been to having a good transfer window in years, and even then we signed 3 players for big money that never actually fit how we wanted to play.

We def haven't had good transfer windows since the Costa and Fabregas window but at least there haven't been issues with negotiations. With Marina you usually knew if we were getting the player or not after 1 or two meetings this summer it has taken us four or more meetings with representatives before getting a player or learning that we won't get them.

It's no different really. And there's no need to get all defensive and start name-calling like a child.

Marina did her job perfectly. Not her fault that the players she was negotiating for were sometimes bad, the deals were not and definitely not her fault that the managers had no clue what to do with many players and who to give time and patience for, we were the team that could have had in the same lineup De Bruyne in the middle, Hazard on the left and Salah on the right, we blew it.

The De Bruyne, Hazard and Salah signings were nothing to do with Marina - as well you know Gol15 🙂 She was however in charge for the 12 players signed since 2016 who have subsequently been sold for a £217 million loss on what was paid for them, and that figure will only get worse when Bakayoko, Kepa, Lukaku, Ziyech, Pulisic etc etc leave the club.

I've encountered this behaviour before in other forums and they always reply when it's a clapback. No hard feelings just wanted to satisfy my psychological curiosity. I have more to say on Marina and previous transfers but I know you are not interested in a debate.

My point is that the managers in charge were far more damaging than she was, in no way did she ever make any decision that hurt the club. Big clubs don't really get to have a net win usually, we only had one at some point due to the transfer ban after which we sold Hazard for 100m+. Again, she makes the deals, she doesn't scout the players so when Conte was super confident that Bakayoko and Morata will be new key players she made the deals, same when the club identified that somehow Kepa is the future and such a talented keeper and all she had to do was to hurry up cause we had no keeper and it was no different when Tuchel wanted Lukaku after Haaland wasn't going to sign.
September 2, 20223 yr After Napoli and Pool punt Cleaning Solution out of the CL I wonder if we will try and line him up for early January, or maybe Sangare.

Just curious: are there any infos out there that Tuchel actually wanted Lukaku? For such an expensive player he was dropped almost asap and not a lot of adjustments were tried to make him work - that would be quite some stance from a coach that's been at the club for six months only (CL win, top4 finsish plus cup final..but still). I read, but that's only hearsay, that Marina and Chech were leaving much earlier than anticipated and that it's been mostly about their stance re getting Lukaku and Wernder out asap which they were very much opposed to. Todd sided with TT (probably since at leat Marina wasn't going to stay longterm anyway) and Lukaku was almost given away for free at the very first moment. Also quite some hardball Tuchel would be playing here if he really wanted Romelu in the first place.
