He's not quite unwanted and the Barca fans I spoke with recently really do rate him. But yeah, lets hope he is more of a Fabregas than a Bogarde.

Fermín López or Xavi Simons ? Both players from that Barcelona Academy - Simons further along in his development, but Lopez probably rated as the better player. More potential.

No idea who we would need more. We need someone who is a good dribbler, creative, and can open defences when teams set up defensively against us. Which is better suited to do that, I have no idea as I've watched neither.

Ive seen a small amount of Fermin and liked what I saw. Usually a very good impact sub so not seen a full match of him, but he seems to know where the back of the net is. Tidy player who likes to put himself about. Never really been sold on Simons so I'd prefer this lad.

Ideally I'd take Simons and Fermin instead of any alternative that includes Garnacho, but is this really a possibility? Fermin and Simons have played off the left but aren't out and out wide men like a Garnacho, so it seems like its Garnacho plus one of the other two.

My thoughts too but sample size too small to judge. Not a widespread caveat around here.

Lopez would get a significant salary increase. Chelsea have offered Lopez €15 million a year and at Barcelona he is currently on €6 million.

Lopez was due to appear at an event today, answering questions from fans. The discussion was arranged three days ago, but the event has been cancelled.

Reports are that he will have a decision by the end of the day today [thursday] but that he is leaning towards staying at Barcelona.

We seem to be a lot more keen on Lopez than Simons, I personally want Simons but that's more because I've not watched much of Lopez. If we didn't get either we'd look pretty stupid considering Simons has turned clubs away to wait for us.

Exclusive: Understand Chelsea have held further talks today with Barcelona's Fermin Lopez, who has also spoken to Enzo Maresca.

Nothing close or guaranteed yet, but Chelsea continue to seriously explore a move. Barcelona want €60m+.

Initial club-to-club contact has also taken place.

Fermin Lopez's best role is the one Enzo Fernandez plays in Maresca's system. Proper box-to-box midfielder with a real "clutch gene" that shone at the back end of last season. Bit of a dated comparison but he reminds of Saul Niguez when he first came through at Atletico Madrid.

It's really hard to analyse Xavi Simons in comparison because of the fact he plays in a league where defending is optional. Simons actually puts in a decent shift defensively but the problem with so many Leipzig players is that they either press suicidally or not at all.

According to the tv programme "El Chiringuito", Newcastle is ready to offer 100m€ for Fermin and would pay him 10m € per season.

Still in it for him. Enzo spoke to him directly multiple times it has been reported.
