ManU vs Chelsea

After that disappointing draw against Rosenborg we should start to focus on Manyoo. Personally I have to say I would be happy with a draw.

------------------------Cech---------------------------

--------Belletti-----Alex----JT-------------Ashley----

--------SWP-------Essien-Mikel----------Malouda---

--------------------Sheva-Kalou----------------------

Subs: Carlo,Ben Haim, Maka, Sinclair, Joey C.

If either Drogba or Pizarro are fit, Kalou will start on the bench. Sheva is no doubt after his good peformance.

Personally I wouldn't have Kalou anywhere near the starting eleven even if Drogba and Pizarro are not fit. I just don't think he is anywhere near the standard required yet and should be kept on the bench to be used as a second half sub against tiring legs.

This would obviously mean Sheva is the only available first team striker however I would be tempted to play either Joe or SWP in a supporting role behind Sheva.

Agree but I dont think SWP or Joe can do that really good. We shouldn?t try new things against such an big opponent.

If we play Sheva as the only main striker then in a line-up like that:

--------------Cech--------------

-Belletti----Alex--JT-----Ashley-

----------Essien--Maka----------

-----SWP----Joe/Mikel--Malouda-

---------------Sheva-------------

Considering the way we have played recently (not hitting the target I mean) I really don't look forward to this one. If we manage to get a draw I would be extremely happy.

Team:

Cech

Belletti - Alex - JT - Cole

Sweepy - Makelele - Essien - Malouda

Drogba/Pizarro/Kalou - Sheva

Not sure about Alex. I would go for the fastest of Alex and Ben Haim.

I use Maka and Essien in midfield to get defensive strenght. Won't help the attack much but if we can get 0-0 I'm happy. Makalele is used to big games and his experience can be useful. Also, I'd rather have Mikel to bring on for Maka late in the game if needed than the other way around.

I would definitely play Paulo at right back but then again I would play him at right back every week. No denying Belletti offers more going forward but he doesn't seem to engage the brain often enough in terms of choosing when to charge forward and that leaves gaping gaps behind him. Top quality teams will take advantage of that far more than Rosenborg managed to.

I think that's slightly unfair, Loz. The times Belletti has been out of position were when we were either chasing the game (Villa) or had so much of the ball he was given licence to go forward (Rovers and Rosenborg). We've yet to see him when he's been asked to be defensively minded and his pace going back toward his own goal may be useful in much the same way as Arsely's seems to be when he comes up against Ronaldo. I don't imagine anyone gives us much of a chance away to 'The Champions' (this must be spoken a la Richard Keys, with a wistful hint of devil about it!) and I suspect that Jose will be relishing the challenge of playing deep, stifiling their attacks and trying to hit them on the break. The last time I remember us going there without much of a prayer was when Ranieri took over - we all knew we were going to get turned over but we came away with a creditable 3-3, and I'm hoping for something similar on Sunday. This game comes at a great time for us - we'll find out just which of our players has the character to play at this level. Some of you have your doubts about Kalou, but I like his temperament and he's scored some important goals for us. The player I have my doubts about is Malouda - too f**king casual by half, seems to lack common sense, cannot motivate anyone around him either by deed or word. I dunno, we do look like a team of average journeymen at the moment - no spark and no heart and that's what is most galling. The questions that has been rattling around my head for the past couple of months (that perhaps I haven't wanted to face out of sheer gratitude and loyalty to the man) are has Mourinho been found out? Is his methodology outdated? Have we become one-dimensional to the point where Drogba makes the team and without him we are pants?

The main question that we can't answer just yet but may have the answer to soon is....should Mourinho have gone in the summer, should we have taken the next step to freshen things up because it's obvious to me that we are a stale, stale squad with few ideas of how to change things - and that goes right from Mourinho downwards.

so who will be the manager ? steve clarke ?

Avram Grant apparently. I fear the worst!

I remember we went there for our first game after Vialli's surprise dismissal and pulled off an impressive 3-3 draw in Ranieri's first game. Much will depend on the morale and spirit of the players. I have a feeling it will be very low and I have seen nothing from Grant to inspire me with confidence.

I think we will either go up there and pull off a great performance (probably dedicating to Jose afterwards) or we will be a total shambles. I'd like to say I care which way it goes but right now I'm pretty disguted with Chelsea and football in general.

Hello everybody.

This will in all likelihood be my last post on this forum.

I've been posting here regularly for about two to three weeks, maybe a month now. I've provided you with insight on mourinho's striker conundrum and a detailed analysis before our match against..Villa.

Now the news has come in Mourinho has been forced out, I can conclude some things.

Firstly, there must have been some push factor involved. As far as we know, no club had offered Mourinho a place in the gaffer lineup. It is also likely that Grant had tried too often to interfere in Mourinho's affairs, making him very fed up. It is possible, and most plausible, that he did this with encouragement from the Russian owner. Another factor was the poor start to the season we had. Before the Rosenborg match, Mourinho hardly looked like leaving.

Rememer the eggs?

This resignation comes just before one of the important games of the season.

The players will be generally in a state of shock and disorientation and disorganization.

I foresee a comprehensive Man U win, maybe 3-1.

Chelsea will finish below Arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd this season, and maybe Everton.

Say what you will but Chelsea's season is over.

If you think anyone can do a better job than Mourinho, I'd like you to prove it.

Two losses on one day, I'm not sure we will be able to cope! Jose's loss will sap all our energy, and now Sillywilly is leaving us as well dead.gif . What have we done to deserve this egyptian.gif

Back to the topic- Does anyone have any idea about Grant's playing style, preferred formation? or anything like that?

It is a real problem for sunday now. For the long term I think there are only two real options with the current squad, but the fitness of the strikers is a real problem, so we might only see one up front- which might not help a great deal!

..............................Cech................................

Beletti.............Terry........Alex...................Cole

..............................Maka...............................

...............Mikel...................Essien..................

..............................Joe..................................

.....................Sheva......Pizarro.......................

or

..............................Cech................................

Beletti.............Terry........Alex...................Cole

..............................Maka...............................

SWP......................Essien......................Joe.....

.....................................................................

.....................Sheva......Pizarro.......................

but i wouldn't be surprised, given the fitness of our strikers, and the current fetish for this formation, to see:

..............................Cech................................

Beletti.............Terry........Alex...................Cole

..............................Maka...............................

..................Mikel................Essien..................

.Kalou..................................................Joe....

.............................Sheva..............................

I am pretty sure grant played a pretty turgid style of football when he was manager of Israel however it could be argued that he was hampered to some extent by the calibre of the players available to him. He did actually improve the team considerably if I recall correctly. However I can't really offer much more than that.

Like you say though how we play on Sunday is probably going to be a lot more to do with the players available than any change in our style.

sigh what a day. The dream is over. I don't want to run Avram Grant down before he has a chance but he has some big boots to fill.

Player morale will likely be terrible however ManU's form has been nothing to speak of.

I don't think it matters too much which strikers we play because its the midfield that's the key to the goals we score.

I would play Alex and Terry belleti and a cole

In the middle. Maka, Essien Malouda and Joe Cole/SWP to sub

and Kalou and Sheva up front
