Posted September 23, 200717 yr Put simply, in light of all that has happened over the last few days, what do you all honestly now think is a realistic target for this season? As I write we are losing to the Mancs (after a f*cking disgraceful red card decision) but for me the result today is irrelevant, in that I don't think we can now honestly be seen as genuine title contenders after the club have decided to turn us into a complete farce with their recent decisions. For me, we are fast becoming the Real Madrid of England with the constant pantomime off the field, and all I can honestly now hope for is that we end the season having qualified for the CL next season, and that the board have the intelligence to appoint someone who is actually qualified and capable of taking over this club from its most successful ever manager (which Avram plainly is not), and who can prevent the mass exodus of players that the tabloids gleefully predict and that we all fear. Above that, I really don't think we can expect much more, such has been the impact of Roman and Cos shambolically timed axe wielding. Negative? Maybe, but I don't see a huge amount of light at the end of the tunnel at the moment, and all we can do is ensure that the players who are prepared to stand up and be counted receive all the support from us that they need, even if the board don't deserve it. Blue forever, but especially blue today.
September 23, 200717 yr A CL spot, and without much worry. anything else is a bonus, and next season whoever is in charge should be in a position to challenge. being a chelsea fan means drama and controversy is around every corner- it was never meant to be plain sailing. p.s. joke club or not, real madrid have won a hell of a lot, watched great football and great players. it wouldn't be the worst case scenario- in any case I don't think we are in the same situation at the moment.

September 23, 200717 yr was speaking to another member (guess who) about van basten, tim- I don't get it... okay, let's assume grant is a temporary solution. now, what has van basten done? I've not been impressed with his dutch side, and that amounts to his total management experience- even grant has done more. okay, I understand he has total football in his blood, and he grew with some great coaches and players (saachi, capello, rijkaard, ruud)... that was the argument put to me- he has that background as a player and is a young manager (who therefore should have "fresh ideas"). I think it would be a massive risk to follow jose with someone like that. and if we were in need of someone with the total football background/ values, then ruud would be the more obvious choice for us surely? a case of unfinished business you could say. but really- it should be from the world class bracket that we look for managers- lippi, capello, hiddink etc IMO.
September 23, 200717 yr Van basten being there was a jumper for Roman 'The Football Man' to wear. The manager that will manage Chelsea is there now, and they had that in mind two months ago. The only reason Grunt won't be manager is if the rules say he can't be.
September 23, 200717 yr My hopes are that we win nothing. My expectations are slightly lower than that.
September 23, 200717 yr A CL place and anything else is a bonus really. Can't see us winning the league atm, but we'll see how things go.
September 23, 200717 yr Oh god, please not Marco van Basten, pleasepleaseplease (falls painfully on her knees begging to the lord she does not acknowledge anyway). A wonderful player, and as a national coach not afraid to leave out big names. In fact, he is so not afraid of leaving out big names, that it takes him ages to realize that in some instances he has made a mistake. Only with a gun to his head does he change tactics during a match. He has no club managing experience, there are doubts about his man-management skills, and as a manager he doesn't have the clout to stand up to Abramovich if required. And what comment would you expect from Hiddink? Of course the Tax Evading One says he's concentrating on Russia's campaign to qualify. If anyone knows his own worth and his own mind, it's Hiddink. As long as there is any doubt about him being in charge of all football matters, he will not accept the job. And if he's promised sole rule, he will take Abramovich junior as a hostage anyway. But he would be an excellent manager for us. So England, do your duty and win in Moscow next month. Apart from that, we will finish 4th, and win f**k all.
September 23, 200717 yr Frustratin day hey lads...I still aint gna rule out the championshpu yet though. Come lads it was a decent performance considerin we had 10. We just need Didier back desperately. I bit more flair goin forward aswel. Things just aint goin are way atm. Shud have been Blackburn, perfectly legitamate goal, and couldn't believe our luck against Rosenburg. Goin through a tough patch now with the gaffer n all that but we have a squad full of world class players and it's still early days init. Let's just support em all da way boys Come on Chels!
September 23, 200717 yr My hopes are that we win nothing. I don't get it Jack. Why do you hope we win nothing?
September 23, 200717 yr My hopes are that we win nothing. I don't get it Jack. Why do you hope we win nothing? To get the 'turtle' out, as soon as possible.
September 23, 200717 yr what I expect us to get this season is the Carling Cup and a CL spot - also progress from the CL group stages at minimum..
September 23, 200717 yr My hopes are that we win nothing. I don't get it Jack. Why do you hope we win nothing? To get the 'turtle' out, as soon as possible. I can't see him lasting too long. He looks scared to me. Hopefully this season we can qualify for the Champions League, find a proper manager, and buy a few footballers.
September 24, 200717 yr Top 4 in the league, or any place higher than liverpool.. Snatch another Carling cup or FA cup along the way..Get a real football manager next season.
September 24, 200717 yr I think a lot depends on our players and how they react to the new set up. We have talent in abundance but im not convinced Grant can motivate them , run the dressing room the way Jose did , inspire confidence and install self belief. At the moment i'm scared sh*tless because the way the club do business , i wouldn't be surprised if Howard Wilkinson came into the picture with Carlton Palmer as director of football, whaever that is .
September 24, 200717 yr I posted this elsewhere, but what the hell. If Grant stays till the end of the season, I believe we'll struggle to stay in the top six. I also think we won't reach the next stage of the CL, and can't foresee any success in the cups. Our season is effectively over, we've been playing crap since day one of the season. Mourinho must have known that Grant had been brought in to replace him, so you can imagine the oppressive atmosphere behind the scenes at the Bridge. And anyone who says Grant isn't to blame - do you really believe he didn't know he was Mourinho's replacement? Abramovich brought him in, and he lurked around in the background until it was time to take over. The man's a snake.

Like you say his pedigree is excellent and being a virgin could well be a benefit compared to a been there done got the T-shirt manager completely fixed in his ideas. Plus I reckon, with his background, he would give the youngsters a go. Have you seen Diarra play for the Gooners and we threw him away? I think it would be a massive risk to follow jose with someone like that. and if we were in need of someone with the total football background/ values, then ruud would be the more obvious choice for us surely? a case of unfinished business you could say. Sometimes you have to take risks - I see Grant as a huge risk - but you have to speculate on occasions, but saying that I would dance on any table to see Ruud back in the hot seat or Vialli for that matter I would even go so far as say bring back Eddie Mac. Eddie Mac oh Eddie, Eddie Mac When are you coming back (Martha Reeves and the Vandellas)
September 24, 200717 yr My hopes are that we win nothing. I don't get it Jack. Why do you hope we win nothing? Because if we do it'll justify The Owners actions. I'm happy to say that - the 5 major trophies Mourinho won in 3 seasons will keep me going for a while yet. I'd prefer that the club sorted itself out in terms of direction and personnel than paper over the cracks with a phoney cup win. I think the club doesn't expect to win anything this season, but I do think they expect to be in the CL next season - which I seriously doubt.
September 24, 200717 yr My expectations for this season are that we'll win nothing. Qualification for next season's Champions League cannot be taken for granted. Can you see this lot fancying the InterToto Cup? Or even the Uefa Cup? I can see where you're coming from, but I can't ever wish for Chelsea to lose.
September 24, 200717 yr Because if we do it'll justify The Owners actions. Just say, for the sake of argument, we win the Champions League this season. Would you be unhappy because this might be seen as justifying the owner's actions?

Eddie Mac oh Eddie, Eddie Mac When are you coming back (Martha Reeves and the Vandellas) EXACTLY, Tim ! Another visionary. Exactly what I said. No vices. Past as a TOP (the best STRIKER I've ever seen) Striker, playing for TOP clubs, raised in the Dutch school, Graduated in the Italian school. Prepared to give the youngsters a go. Another issue, wich seems to be a problem, his rigid rules. I don't see it as a problem, rather a sign of needed discipline. Nistelrooy aparently wanted an automatic starting spot, while being on the bench of Manure. Started a row. Was out. Van Basten has IMO the potential, and isn't a "nice bloke" like Rijkaard or Gullit. Obviously Lippi or Cappelo, would be a 99% granted sucess, but what fun would that be.
September 24, 200717 yr Because if we do it'll justify The Owners actions. Just say, for the sake of argument, we win the Champions League this season. Would you be unhappy because this might be seen as justifying the owner's actions? Yes, cos if we do it'll mean football as we know it has ended, a slow and tortuous death where w**kers like The Owner and his cronies can lead a team to Champions League glory. Purely for the sake of arguement, you understand.
September 24, 200717 yr Yes, cos if we do it'll mean football as we know it has ended, a slow and tortuous death where w***** like The Owner and his cronies can lead a team to Champions League glory. But you would have been happy for us to win that trophy under Mourinho even though the w**kers would have been in charge then as well? Is he a w**ker because he got rid of Mourinho or was he w**ker anyway?
