just
Well, we're a week into the tournament and, despite England not being there, I've enjoyed most of what I have managed to see. Holland are exciting, Croatia are technically very good, Italy are theatrical, and Austria/Switzerland/Poland are pish. So, which players have impressed you the most so far? And which ones have had you scratching your head thinking why don't they just try cricket instead? For me, impressive? Modric looks an excellent player. Techincally superb and very strong and agressive for a small bloke. Gutted he is going to Spurts. Sneijder for Holland is also a terrifically talented player. Very consistent in his performances. Villa and Torres look a wonderful partnership, but I do wonder how well Villa could perform in the EPL without another striker up alongside him. And Buffon has shown he is still a top, top keeper. As for failures, well Thuram is well past his best. It's a shame to watch because he was a brilliant player in his prime. And watching Italy I have to ask, what is a Comoronesi and what does it do? loz
Modric has definitely been the stand out player for me so far and it is a crying shame Spurs are going to kill his confidence! 'The Holy Goalie' Boruc has also played very well for Poland so far. Robben a superb 45 minutes but not enough to form an opinion on yet. Villa and Torres I would also agree on and I continue to champion Villa as the striker we should sign. I thought Frings and Lahm were superb in Germany' opening game but far less so in their second game. As for failures so far well the worst player I have seen has probably been our very own Anelka with Malouda not far behind and Camoranesi I would also agree on. g3.7
I'd say malouda has been worse than anelka given he's played more minutes. modric really does look like his games against england weren't anomalies, I love how he roams all over the pitch with kranjcar adjusting to plug the gaps. bilic looks a good manager. domenech and france look turgid, I sincerely hope they go out and he is sacked. I thought that henry goal yesterday was great though. jansen for germany can cross a ball but is about as good as robben at defending. gomis awful, picked ahead of trezeguet (who joins the likes of sagna, flamini and clichey at home)... the dutch- credit to them, and to van basten. a big surprise. sniejder is playing like he did for large patches for madrid, but kuyt, van bronckhorst, boulah, all playing way better than expected. smashed both world cup finalists and have a bit of luck with them. camoranesi a waste of time, I think the last time I saw him play well... maybe 4 years ago or something? spain are making good use of all those brilliant central midfielders, and villa and torres looked great that game. clubhappy
Modric is talented but is easily knoecked off the ball, although i think we have to see the best of him. Croatia are in with a chance, well organised and good going forward, Holland are just the dog b*****ks at the moment , Germany are not good enough , simple as that, Jensen is one of the worst defenders in football, Spain owe it to themselves to win something , Villa is outstanding , practially won the first 2 games for them, Italy were a little unfortunate against Holland as they did have chances that could have changed the game , missed chances V Romania too and Toni is not in the same class as Villa or Torres , France are shocking at times , again missed chances cost them , Moluda is just plain awful and im very disappointed in Ribery. Romania are f****ng sh*te , as were Greece, Austria and Switzerland . Sneijder , Villa, Boruc , all having great tournaments , havnt seen any of Portugals games yet but hoping Ronaldo misses a penalty and falls over the ball a few times . Im hoping for Holland or Croatia to win it .
Alan
Romania are f****ng sh*t I actually don't think Romania have been too bad in their two games so far. They were very defensive against France in their first game but against Italy I though they played pretty well and were good passers of the ball. Gem
Obviously Villa is a stand out performer, I just hope the Torres factor doesn't affect his destination this Summer. Valencia will hold out for the highest price and we've got to hope no one can or will match our bid. Sneijder has pulled the strings for Holland, I think he's been superb. That said, every player in the Dutch team has performed, looks like everything if clicking into place for them. Apart from the two glory boys, Iniesta always impresses me, such a great talent. Poldolski, absent for team, big hit for national side, how far Germany go will be determined by his form.

geezer
I've loved watching the Dutch. Arjen's cameo the other night showed that when he's free of injury there's no-one to touch him at taking on players at pace. That said, Sneijder has been a class act for me and even though Van of Faart has played well Wesley has been the main driving force behind the Dutch success. g3.7
is it fair to say this is shaping up to be the best international tournament since france 98 (or maybe euro 2000)?
Pauly
There was no euro 2000. Tournament was called off due to mass flooding. tragic. tragic times. My dreams were shattered earlier in the week, but i am hopeful that France keep Domenech and that perhaps, they will go through the world cup without scoring. I will have to be content with Greece failing miserably. Speaking of failing miserably: All hail the creative midfield duo of Ambrosini/Gattuso in the first game. Donadoni is going straight to inter in their attempt to do the same thing 18 years running despite looking worse than loz's arse for all of those 18 years, after jose just can't satisfy their thirst for predictability. I loved the decision to drop everyone and put chiellini and panucci in central defense, i've seen some slow, disorganised, confused rubbish in my time but materazzi's non-attempt to lead the defense was... startling. Will we beat France? I have money on it, but between two incompetent sides the result will probably be some type of 0-0 draw. I truly hope we play one creative central midfielder- we should have beaten romania and if perrotta doesn't start it's game over. I would personally prefer to see Bebeto nautralised and played instead of Toni. won't repeat what everyone else has said, and so goodbye. ps. camoranesi is a god. Elliott
For me, the outstanding players have been Villa, Frings, Sniejder, Torres, Van der Vaart, Modric, Sionko, and Moutinho. As already mentioned THE WHOLE OF THE HOLLAND DEFENCE have played well above expectations, so credit to the coach for installing such a team spirit. Croatia on the whole have really impressed me, and I genuinely think they are capable of winning it. Billic has done wonders. I thought Pirlo has played below par for Italy, and thought it was obvious that De Rossi should start? Roma Bias?..

coco
I can envisage Ballack having a good game against the Turks, lets hope he comes back to England with a winners medal and a bag full of confidence.
